Your favourite movie of the year?

It came out at the tail-end of 2011 but I saw it at the very start of this year so it probably doesn't count, but Take Shelter was excellent and really engrossing.

If its only films in the cinema that we're including then for me its a toss-up between Avengers and Dredd 3D. Saw both in 3D but Dredd used it so much better. So, uh, yeah, Dredd I guess.

My local dirt theater didn't get it till 2012, so I'm gonna go ahead and say Melancholia. Perhaps Kirsten Dunst's best role. Doesn't hurt that Keifer Sutherland portrays a bad ass, either.

Best films I've seen so far this year (in no order)...

The Dark Knight Rises
The Avengers
Silver Lining Playbook
Jeff, Who Lives At Home
21 Jump Street
The Cabin in the Woods

Movies I still need to see:

Ted
Premium Rush
Killer Joe
End of Watch
Seven Psychopaths
The Master
Django Unchained
This Is 40
Killing Them Softly
Argo
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Hitchcock
The Sessions

You did yourself a disservice for watching Avengers in the inferior format, don't blame The Avengers. The rule is: not filmed in 3D, not watched in 3D.

Avangers was the best. Hands down a near perfect slice of adaptation pie. Did what it set out to do.

Dredd wins best 3d film of the year, it was beautiful. Ive never been that taken by 3d before this.

Have to say, I just saw seven psychopaths last night and it was done beautifully. I'd put that in my top 5 for the year too!.. If I had one.

I'm a Tolkien guy. I was pleased with how The Hobbit was portrayed in the movie as well as a lot of the additional information that was placed in the script.

Other than The Hobbit, I especially liked Lincoln and the Grey. Ted and The Campaign were fun, but I couldn't say they were one of the best of the year.

Dark Knight Rises. Self-admitted mark for the series, bought the blu-ray on the day of its release, basically ****ed it off to any of my friends who'd yet to see it. I don't think it was good as The Dark Knight but as a continuation and as the third tale in the trilogy I thought it was awesome. Love Christopher Nolan, hence why I have some faith in the Man of Steel series.

Seven Psychopaths, Hobbit 1, Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall Prometheus, etc., usual popular stuff. Can't put my finger on one. Nor can I remember anything that was released between January and June.

Though I can say that Avengers sucked balls on the second viewing - saw it in the cinema first, then on Blu Ray, so I haven't exactly slummed it, but once the hype's faded you realise what a shallow piece of self-serving wank it is.

Agreed. Though the long ass fight scene at the end is still pretty sweet.

End of Watch is pretty awesome too.

Fucking Iron Man fixing a plane for 20 minutes, man.

Only saw a trailer for End of Watch, but it looked alright. Since I stop to ogle your sig for a few minutes every time you post I'm going to respect your opinion on stuff.

Which reminds me, FUCKING LAWLESS, what a top film. Easily one of the best this year. How could I forget it?

You like a Batman film, but then call The Avengers "self serving wank?" I dont get it.

First I read someone saying that "A fairy tale in New York" is an irritating song, now this. Too much more and I wont make it to New Year.

Avengers was alright, I enjoyed it for that one time.. I also have to give Ted my appreciation, it was an hilarious movie. The Amazing Spider-Man was also cool, it grew on me after I really watched the movie. This year was pretty strong in the industry of cinema.
