Your favourite debut/return promo package

One of the things I enjoy about the WWE the most is their ability to create video packages that can make very ordinary feuds seem larger-than-life. They also make fantastic return and promo packages. Who doesn't like a mysterious return/debut promo package? I myself LOVE these video promos, simply because they bring out the inner-child of every wrestling fan, whether you're a smark or not, you watch these packages and you can't help but get excited and curious as to what is happening. My question is, which package is your all-tme favourite?

Personally, my favourite will always be Y2J's 2007 return packages. Why? Because you knew who it was, but the mystery behind it which was what kept everyone on the edge of their seat, talking and guessing as to who this mystery debut/return was going to be. We all wanted Y2J to come back, so when this package aired in 2007 we all knew that it was Y2J, even members of the casual audience knew who it was without being apart of the online speculation. We didn't know for sure that it was Y2J, but we all hoped that it was be the Ayatollah of Rockin' Rolla' to return and defeat Orton so much that we kind of knew that it had to be him. This package each week was well done, and the code kept many of us analysing it right up until Jericho's return. It was simply my favourite and a classic because it did exactly what it was meant to do - It teased us for weeks, kept us excited and guessing about the mystery, and eventually gave us exactly what we wanted. All of Y2J's return teasers have been fantastic since 1999 - The guy knows how to make an entrance!

What was your favourite debut/return promo or package?

Your thoughts?

I loved this one but I also enjoyed Jerichos latest return videos. The It Begins promos were awesome that you knew who it was but you couldn't be for sure. I really wish they would explain it better though. Who's the girl in the video?

By far I would have to say the newest Jericho vignettes. Yes we all speculated it was Jericho but up untill the last video WWE made it as though it could be anybody. It had a dark almost scary movie type feel to it. It left more questions then answers and IMO was the best most well put together vignettes ive ever seen. Though in the end the one thing that made it so amazing and creative was the thing that became its downfall. Which was just that, we were left with more questions then answers. The girl in the video, the end of the world a we know it, to take back what is mine. YES we know that he means to take the best in the world back from CM Punk. But he has lost the last 2 major WWE ppvs and for the most part will lose at WM considering he will be leaving again soon to tour with Fozzy. If that is why he came back why did he not just go after Punk in the first place? Also in him winning the WWE title really "the end of the world as we know it". Again IMO the greatest I have seen when it comes to return promos but so far WWE has failed to deliver/explain all the points they were trying to make in the videos.

wow... all the responses were y2J I'm surprised to hear that. I thought his promos were terrible, the only thing that made them exciting was bc it meant jericho was coming to the WWE, but as promos they were lacking, especially the later ones that were spoiled long before as being for jericho... the first one though was one of the last major surprises left in wrestling.

Anyways, onto my personal favorites... my top 3 are 3) Razor Ramon... they were hilarious and made him come off as a heel at the same time, I knew I wasn't going to like him, but I'd also have to fight myself to not like him as well... 2) tie between Sean O'Haire/Muhammed Hassan - these two were kind of similar in that they were two major heels who were great promo artists getting self righteous in a way that had you hating them before they even showed up, you've never even seen them wrestle and you already wanted someone to kick their ass.... And my favorite of all time was Waylon Mercy... I was already a dan spivey fan, but these promos were brilliant. He came off as super creepy and had it not been for injury and he been able to keep up with his character I think he could have been another Jake Roberts type character with his cape fear type persona.

"The Millennium Clock"

In writing, most dramas are driven by a "time factor"- it's a tool to create tension within in audience.

The look and sound of the clock was great. Both becoming iconic to the entrance of Jericho's, in his early days. The duration was perfect, starting months ahead of time. Very well planned.

The execution was perfect, in the middle of the sweaty summer, as the Rock was in the height of his popularity, the countt-down flashed suddenly on the Titan-Tron. Then second by second the clock ticked down with agonizing anticipation.

I personally feel it my favorite moment in wrestling over 25 years of watching. Still gives me chills watching it all these years later.

LOL a Waylon Mercy reference. I remember those promos....very creepy. He had a carrer ending injury soon after????, I am not at all farmiliar with his work but I remember hearing great things about him and hearing we really missed out by not seeing him in WWF.

I liked Triple Hs return at MSG Jan 02. That crowd made it. Also agree with those who liked Jerichos debut. The way they brought out the Rock last year was pretty cool too.

Without question it's the debut of Y2J in Summer of 1999.

I really don't even know where to start with this. I believe the Millennium Clock started in April (?) and counted down all the way to August. The clock itself was absolutely genius because people were already nervous and excited about the new Millennium in general. Jericho capitalized on this and it was a perfect debut. I heard that's not why he originally chose the clock countdown, but either way, it worked out. The hype was major because people were so excited to know what would happened when the clock hit 0. And back then, I don't think there spoiler sites so people knew ahead of time who it was gonna be. The hype he had coming over from WCW carried over well into WWF!

And then, he has the Audacity to interrupt The Rock? What better way to debut than to interrupt the company's biggest start at that time?

When the "JERICHO" appeared on the titantron, the pop was HUGE! I don't think you'll ever hear the crowd pop for a new superstar like that for a LONG time. The moment was absolutely incredible. All of it was EPIC; the countdown, the pyro, the music, the pose where he has his back to the camera, and of course the "RAW IS JERICHO!"

And not only that, he delivered a great promo. At the time, WWF was doing quite well, so it didn't really make much sense, but Jericho came to put WWF over the top in his eyes. Everything he said could apply to today's WWE perfectly IMO.

Jericho had the greatest debut EVER! And there's not a lot of people you can say that for.

The Alberto Del Rio one's were awesome!
I LIED. I couldn't stand them.

The best were the 2008 Y2J Code Videos. They were amazing and i remeber decoding them with my family.

hi. My favorite promo was either, predictably, Jericho's Y2J promos. The whole countdown thing was pretty cool.
I also liked Tazz. The way his sign would randomly interrupt peoples entrance video's. And then of course he made his debut to end Kurt Angles winning streak.

Y2J's countdown was my all time favorite return, that included a promo. But my favorite return was Triple H in 2002. His entrance was intense. One of my favorite videos to look up on YouTube when bored surfing.

Personally, I liked the build up and debut of Mankind. If I remember correctly, Roddy Piper was "in charge" of the WWE and played it up as only he could do.

I also LOVED the build up and debut of "SSSSHHHHH"... GOLDDUST!! The video packages and production behind those were great..

I will take an example from WCW. As a kid, I used to think that the Glacier promos were awesome. "Our World Is About to Change" they said, showing the Mortal Kombat style scenes and the mystery feel about it. Come to think of it, that whole world changing thing was taking place years before Jericho had his debut in the WWE.

Here are some examples:

Of course, as a kid in the 90s, a Mortal Kombat themed promo would be cool. A pity that Glacier really didn't go anywhere after all that hype.

I'm going with 2 choices. Of course the 1999 debut of Y2J was nothing short of awesome. Week after week with the Millenium clock counting down leading up to the August 9th debut in Chicago was amazing. I was there with my buddy live at All State Arena (Rosemont Horizin back then) celebrating my birthday and man I've been to many events but nothing compares to the roar and excitement of the crowd that night. It was very well done by WWE and it stands the test of time as the best debu.

As an honorable 2nd choice not so much for debut but for pre-debut promos I'm goign to have to go back to 1992 when Razor Ramon appeared on WWE tv. His Tony Montana Scarface gimmick was cool. He had the look, the attitude and the accent it was pretty cool. There'd be a different promo for weeks before his debut and I found each one to be very entertaining and cool. Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall get my 2nd choice vote.

Undertaker's 2011 return. It was so awesome, I don't think I've ever seen the internet go so crazy over a wrestling video package.

It was like "IS IT STING? IS IT TAKER???!!!".
