You Know What's Sad (re: Cena vs. Bryan)?

http://podcastone.com/Steve-Austin-Show

No need, they discussed it on The Steve Austin Show where Steve talks about how great Lance is for an hour. Keep trying kid, you'll make it eventually, you just gotta hope and prey.

Yeah right. Obviously the guy is in therapy or his wife wants him to pussy out on all that stuff. Who in the whole wide world would think that "BOOOORRRING" is a heel gimmick? It's a way to bury a wrestler. They hated the emotionless wrestling that Lance Storm advocated in 2003.

Lance Storm's blog is great.

It's also hilarious that people ignore how simple most these moves are. Its not as if hulk hogan couldn't have sat down for an hour and learned how to do a figure-four leg lock.

I do think Bryans ability to work a match has improved ten-fold since the YES has caught on. Of course, starting from the position of having the crowd eating out of your hands is a pretty strong advantage.

Yes, because having a 6'5 280 pound behemoth defeating someone using a tedious leg hold is much more believable than him beating someone half to death with his bare hands.

I buy Bryan as a submission specialist because he looks the part, just like I'd buy Cena as being strong enough to slam someone through the ring if he wanted to.

Coco, this will warm the cockles of your heart - it's totally unrelated to this thread but that ship has sailed, sunk and killed everyone on board:

Me and my brother were bonding over our mutual love for Rob Van Dam this afternoon and lamenting how he wasn't challenging for the world title at SummerSlam. He was genuinely up off his seat during the ending of that distinctively mediocre battle royal. This is before he dismissed Bryan's microphone skills and I had to scrabble together a ramshackle defense to protect my damaged pride.

Some people sincerely agree with what Bryan said on Monday night. Worse yet, they think it was Bryan supplying the ether.

Here's a summary:

"You're not a wrestler."
"I've beaten the best wrestlers in the world for the last decade. You think I'm nothing but a gimmick - I stop dying children from giving up. You think you're Mr. Big Dick because you've been to Japan, I've been to more countries than there actually are currently in the world. If I'm not a wrestler, how shit does that make you?"
"But but you're not a wrestler. Japan."

Bryan did his best with some pitiful material - almost as if they're trying to make him look bitter and envious - but it's amazing that people are actually backing what he said in that promo.

Im sure im not the first person to say this in this thread, but....

that was the point of the promo. The WWE is entirely aware those people exist, are the sect who boos Cena, and likely comprise the loudest portion of the pro bryan crowd. It was a brilliant promo, and great material.

I feel like Punk was able to achieve the same thing without pandering to the truly clueless among us, but perhaps I'm holding Bryan to too high a standard. I don't think Bryan performed poorly, I just think that Cena's points were comparatively so strong that anyone with functioning ears could observe how they dragged Bryan's points down an alley, took their wallets and stabbed them in the gut. Evidently I was wrong.

Sounds like another outstanding member of the Sam clan.

Also deviating from the thread's stated topic: A shame about that photo of the back of your head. I thought we were kindred "white and slender" spirits. Turns out you're far more bulky and rugged than I could ever hope to be. At this point, you're more NorCal than human in my mind's eye.

I thought DBD started a little shakily on the mic but as he got warmed up and clearly started to enjoy the back and forth with Cena, he grew in confidence and his delivery got better.

The underlying idea of "Cena not being a wrestler" was a little strained though and when Bryan continued on with it after Cena had thoroughly rebuked it, it didn't help him.

I direct you to people booing Cena's Make-a-wish promos.

People are fucking idiots.

"Yes, your points a much stronger than Bryan but.....YOU SUCK YOU CAN WRESTLE JAPAN BOOOO!!!"

Your faith in humanity is inspirational, Sam.

I wasn't so much surprised - more disappointed.

Yeah, but I usually wear sleeves and each of my brothers - all two of them - are burlier and manlier than the last. They make me seem like a regular Coco the Monkey.

It was indeed at the start of the promo that he claimed Bryan wasn't very good on the microphone. I mumbled something like, "Well, he's normally better. Seriously." That put him in his place.

The underlying idea of "Cena not being a wrestler" was a little strained though and when Bryan continued on with it after Cena had thoroughly rebuked it, it didn't help him.

Very much how I felt, though I suppose we've pretty much covered that by this point.

Haven't the WWE done the John Cena vs Guy Popular with "vocal males" 'you're an idiot and can't wrestle' angle like... four times now?

To be fair to WWE, Cena has lampshaded that fact at least twice during this feud. So that excuses them, right?

Not to any who has spent the best part of a year in a comedy gimmick.

To be fair, after 8+ years on top, you are going to get some repetition.

Granted, that repetition has happened largely in the last 3 years but if it remains a popular storyline and idiots continue to believe the "you can't wrestle" nonsense, why not?

Exactly. Don't fix what isn't broken. If anything the smarks are working themselves, and the WWE is capitalizing on it. It's a win/win for everyone.
