tl;dr
I tried to warn you it wouldn't work.
I honestly dont remember that but to be honest the whole thing is a blur. I shouldnt have taken the position to be honest. Doing it when I was about to become a dad was crazy.
It could have worked with this batch of rookies, they are switched on a lot more than the likes of Spear were. We were stonewalled on most fronts as well.
Still I think Stone and Krypto coming out of it made it mostly worthwhile.
Right idea, wrong time I guess.

We figured at the time there would only be one or two duds at most and that everyone thus far in the programme had shown enough commitment to stick around at least through the programme. Unfortunately we were wrong, but indeed we were able to make Krypto and Izzy Stone into fairly notable stars so there is that.

Sure, the concept fell apart due to commitment issues, but I do find it hard to knock something that gave rookies something to do for a couple cycles versus floating aimlessly. It was an experiment that internally fell apart at the bottom, but were people expecting a different end-result? 1-2 rookies got a big rub out if it and laid foundation for future feuds/alliances with their mentors/opponents. Those are things that can be picked up even to this day. I would honestly even say that Krypto is the unofficial face of the Aftershock brand, and he owes that to winning the Mentor Program.
Could the program have done with a better supporting cast? Yes. But while it wasn't the most "competitive" competition with the amount of flakes, we still saw the growth of Stone & Krypto, with Darren Bull there for the laughs.
