WZCW Discussion Thread

Or maybe it takes a bit longer than you think to do feedback. I would much rather wait longer for better feedback than getting a line or two about what someone liked in my rp. You'll get fb from me soon guys. Hell if you want it that bad do some feedback for people who are capable guys at feedback.

You finally make a post I find rep worthy and wouldn't you know it I sent that stupid Booker gif yesterday so I can't rep it

Mathematics IS algebra and calculus. Anything below that is called maths but is really numeracy (as in the ability to manipulate number.) just to clarify.

Also Maths is a) awesome and b) arguably the most important development in the development of us as a species.

In other news is i had typed up feedback for the remaining matches on the KC card when my Firefox crashed.

I might get round to re-typing it tomorrow but probably not...

Statistics is not awesome. Useful, yes. Important, certainly especially in the sciences. But it's so fucking dull and invariably thought by someone who can't teach.

Sadly whilst you are right, aside from Decision Mathematics it's arguably the most useful part of Maths in the modern world. Whenever I need to teach statistics, I get the students to do experiments. When possible at least. Most probability problems boil down to either a Venn Diagram or a Tree diagram and from there it's a piece of piss to solve.

For things like expectation and variance just learning one method (Sum of fx divided by the sum of f for E(x) for example) and then learning how to apply that method in multiple circumstances works far better than just going here's nine different ways to work out the mean (which is the same as E(x) anyway)

I agree though, Stats is boring to teach, so it's invariably boring to learn.

No clue what decision maths is. However, Stats only gets duller as it gets more relavent and therefore complicated. Probability tree problems are dull enough, but calculating p-values and deciding if this piece of data matters or just down to chance is worse.

I am pretty much terrible at all math except geometry. I say I'm terrible, but I never got anything worse than a high C is school in math. That doesn't include the college algebra course I had to withdraw from due to a grade so low that a 48 out of 100 I got on a test brought my grade UP. I blame that more on the teacher than anything since I retook it in the summer with a different teacher and got a B+. Still, I hate algebra.
