Doesn't fan fiction require the plundering of other people's intellectual property? Without that surely it's just fiction.

Kind of. There's all sorts of debates I've read on what makes fan fiction, fan fiction. Since we use pictures of real wrestlers to represent our characters, I'd say what we do borderlines more on fan fiction than pure fiction.

I don't buy that. Many of us don't use pictures of real wrestlers, and it makes no logical sense for some of us to be writing fan fiction and some of us to be producing wholly original content based purely on the extremely trivial distinction.

A better argument would be that our observance of kayfabe means that we are making use of a pre-established fictional universe, but enough different wrestling universes have been presented that I'd consider that genre writing rather than fanfiction.

However I have heard convicing arguments that taking any sort of pre establish universe and changing the setting can still be counted as fan fiction. It's like taking Naruto characters, changing all their powers, and putting them in outer space.

We have wiki pages for all of our characters that detail all of the history that we go through; so we kind of are doing that.

And I agree, I wouldn't consider a story like that to be true fan fiction, as it has nothing to do with the canon work; but others would argue that the story is fan fiction because it expounds upon a certain idea that might exist in a parallel universe.

It would be like saying that WZCW is a parallel universe of other major wrestling companies because we use the images of actual wrestlers to represent our characters. Don't argee with it, but the arguement is there.
