WZCW Discussion Thread

I have a quick question for the WZCW roster and a suggestion for a later event

Have you ever written an RP for a match that did not take place or has yet to be scheduled?

I can tell you that I had a rather length RP written when I thought it was possible that I might get a world title rematch with Ty after Lethal Lottery. It was (or should I say 'is' as I have not deleted it) quite different from the normal Barbosa type RP, focusing more on an interview promo.

The mentioning of high word counts got me thinking about the possibility of putting a really low word count cap on a particular round - something like 200-250 words. I think it could make for some interesting ideas, approaches and writing styles as well as potentially some huge upsets. Thoughts?

I haven't pre-wrote an RP for a match that has never occurred but I can tell you that if we do put a word limit on a round, expect a lot of vignette or thinking-related RP's... and for those that don't have a clue what to do, innovations on the shaving accident RP.

I wrote my 2nd contract battle royal application after reading some of the feedback I got on my first. Granted learning that the next week it was going to be an extra stipulation where the winners got a chance at the Tag Champs I modified some of the dialog. Only downside with writing ahead of time is that you usually have to guess who you are going up against and if you guess wrong you would be spending a lot of time modifying your rp.

10 day's is enough time to write an rp, although when I sit at home waiting for emails from hopeful job employers I focus and write my rps and get them done in about 2 days.

Wow good idea dude. I actually think that would be a pretty cool round, a word cap. I've never really seen one lower than 3500 words. Hell in most feds I've been in length was comonplace and rather boring. That would be rather hard for people like me who love to put in description.

Showtime and me writing a 250 word RP?

Not.
Gonna.
Happen.

We like our novellas. I couldn't do it, I write 250 words in the opening part of the RP.

Writing RP's for matches that haven't happened, I haven't but I often entertain how I would go about writing an RP against certain people. It's usually around this time I'm contemplating storylines/feuds/etc for the fed in general.

This usually happens around 1:30 AM when I'm trying to sleep and my mind begins wandering. It's how I came up with the Reynolds/Ty feud currently going on.

Very true I love my description. Hell in my latest rp I just added it up I have allmost 700 words of it. Shit that allmost triples the limit.

I also have a penchant for long RPs and description but sometimes I think they are too long. A one off round of short RPs could be another way of exploring your writing skills

Well, if you ever need an opponent to try it out, I'll attempt it.

I like word limits. Brevity is a far greater test of a person's writing ability than their capacity to produce 3,000 words.

You could always scale word limits to card position. The more important the match, the longer RP's are allowed to be. 500 words for the bottom of the undercard raising to 2000 for the big matches, to unlimited for PPV main event level encounters... or something. I'm pulling the numbers out of thin air, but that kind of thing.

There's a kind of logic there. Two main event competitors going into a PPV match are going to get a lot more 'build' to their match than half a dozen jobbers having a multi man match on Meltdown (alliteration fun). It also provides an interesting kind of handicap, whereby the less able competitors get a slightly easier time of things. When you're chasing titles and main eventing shows I would imagine it's a touch easier to motivate yourself to write lengthy entries than when you make a habit of losing matches. It would also make working one's way up the card a slightly more interesting process as one is forced to adapt their writing style as expectation rises.

Might be an entertaining experiment. It would completely fuck up my book writing theme, so I can't say I'll lose too much sleep if it gets shot down.

I've thought about RP ideas for future opponents, but I have never written them down waiting for my character to face that opponent. I figure that things could change along the way and I may want to add, change, or scrap what I may already have.

I have a Ricky-style RP idea waiting to be used if ever I can't find the time to write one. Other than that, I've thought about cutting down, but It just wouldn't fit my character. Instead I've tried to decrease the size of my paragraphs and add more 1-2 line dialogues.

I don't write very much in advance by the typical definition, but I certainly have most of the creative legwork done for a number of potential encounters.

Writing for me is pretty much something that happens automatically. If you spend long enough composing documents about Chinese oil refineries then the mind will start to vomit fiction in self defense. Very little creative thought is actually involved in typing up my work now that I have to basic style down. All the themes, interesting phrases and literary devices and whatnot I settle on in my head first, and I don't usually start typing until I have to whole thing composed in my mind. Minor changes might get made as I see better how a certain phrase reads or if I launch off into an unexpected flight of fancy, but for the most part I'll keep to what I settled on in advance.

So in that regard, yeah, I write a lot of my stuff in advance. In the practical everyday respect: hell no, that's what the last minute is for.

I've thought about things a round or two in advance at times, can barely write my RPs on time though so I don't see myself acutally pounding out any extra ones early.

I've already written my RP for next year's Lethal Lottery, three different RPs for possible matches I could see myself being involved in a next year's Kingdom Come, and three other RPs should I ever meet Showtime, Ty, or Blade in a dark ally.

No. Of course I haven't. I assume my RP game is always improving. I'm not going need yesterday's news if I don't get a match with Showtime until next year. Although I do fantasy book in my head frequently which leads to a lot of RP ideas.

If I ever face Blade my promo would be easy to write but apart from that, I tend to build ideas slowly.

I wouldnt like Word limit RPs. If you hadnt noticed, I like my long RPs. I've tried limited wordage in another fed and it was just a joke, an open invite to copying and direct replying to RPs which I hate.

A badly held secret is Mr. Funkay has joined us on Creative. Please drop off Welcomes here and checks/money orders/debit cards/credit cards/cash in the box. Please disregard the scribbled out words that read "Alcohol Fund".
