WZCW Discussion Thread

For the life of me, I cannot type up an RP in word. I also format my RP as I go, not at the end and I cannot proof-read/continue my RP without formatting as I go... which leads me to saying that after each paragraph or two, I "preview post."

This sounds awful. I reckon it would take a lot longer having to go and change the font color every time you write a new character's dialogue that it would to just do everything at once.

I have a system. I write the RP up in word, spell checking along the way, and typing in the code for bold or italicized words. Then I copy and paste it to a response, and I do each character's color one at a time. That way, I don't have to keep changing between orange and green every time Saxton and Saboteur are having a conversation, I just do all the orange and then all the green, and then if Krypto is there I'll do all the purple, Garrett is blue, etc.

I find it pretty good since I do my RP's like FalKon. But I do proof read. As I go along and color the words, I re-read them and often come up with better words to use or more dialog to add on the spot.

I used to do that. I can't really say why I do everything as I write along now. I simply picked up the habit.

I've tried that and unfortunately, I get absolutely frustrated colour-coding twice on to different programs. I distinctly remember deleting an RP in the form of a word document because when I transferred the RP onto the forums, it wasn't coded. I started from scratch on the browser because of how angry I got.

It's the little things in life...

Even when I did the NXT thing or the debating league, I always prefer doing it in Word. Even card planning etc, my GM application all goes in Word.

Tell me about it. It also means that if something comes up you can save it, and revisit it later. I could never do what FalKon does. It's too risky for me and too much effort.

Ah... I save my RP in a Word document for those RP's that are long and/or take me more than 1 hour to write via copy & paste from the forum's editor. When I'm ready to continue, I copy and paste it all back and its already done.

I don't like doing it but I do it when necessary.

I type out dialogue, actions etc. with any bold/italics code in Word. Then when I am finished, I have a list of the color/size codes at the bottom of the Word file and I just copy and paste the appropriate formatting for the text - means that I am proof-reading and formatting at the same time.

Then I paste it all to the response box, preview it to make sure that all the formatting is correct.

I usually just wrote mine up on the forum. I got burned by it a couple times (match writing included) but I will again pimp the form recovery add on Lazarus. It's good in Firefox and Chrome and can save your ass if you close a tab or accidentally hit the back button.

I use Darkroom. Great little program, basically a full-screen Notepad that minimizes distractions by covering up everything, including the taskbar. Plus the colors are green text with black background, so it makes me feel like I'm doing important hacking work in an old movie. For formatting, I format as I go. Easier for me.

I've got to stop waking up before my alarm... I'll be dead in school if it continues. :P

However, watching Justin Gabriel win his first match in seven weeks is a fantastic way to kick off the morning. Will start RP after school most likely.

Well, after leaving it saved on my PC for the last few days I finally decided to post my RP.

I hope you enjoy it - I'd love to hear what people think about it.
