I have rarely, if ever, thought about the future.
I try not to plan more than a few years ahead. My dream for a while was to make freelance writing work; then I made it work and it turned out to be considerably less of a seduction aide than I had previously anticipated.
The current master plan involves building up my teaching resume and then making my way to the Middle East, though in all likelihood I'll bore of ELF in a few years and come home to do a PGCE for conventional teaching work, or perhaps move into another unrelated field. This is why I avoid planning.
I'm in the same boat, planning for the future just doesn't work in most cases. I left Uni knowing that I wanted to work in Computer Programming, realised the hard way that it is an almost impossible field to get into at least locally and ended up landing on my feet with teaching. Five years later and I'm coming to the conclusion that teaching is not the career I was hoping it would be and am looking at other things - I'll probably go back to the computer side and see what happens.
