WWE to mock Glenn Beck on Raw

The Butcher

Thanks to Glenn Beck turning down WWE's invite to Raw, it looks like we may be subjected to another "Stan Kroenke edition," according to the Observer:

The Wrestling Observer reported that WWE officials weren't happy with Glenn Beck's response to their invite to RAW and that Stephanie McMahon had the WWE writers working late Friday night on Monday's script. It was noted that they may have a special segment planned to mock Beck on Monday's RAW... For what it's worth, the original note from Dave Meltzer on WWE re-writing Monday's RAW noted that the show was looking to be like a "Stan Kroenke edition."
I'm not sure how I should feel about this. On the one hand, segments like this are usually crappy, but on the other, mocking Glenn Beck. I can't say I'm anticipating it, but it might be worth a laugh. The best part of it may very well be the response from Beck, although if "stupid wrestling people" is as clever as he gets, maybe not.

Are any of you looking forward to the fallout from this situation with Beck, or are you hoping that this is the beginning of the end for this controversial storyline?

It'll be interesting to see where they go with this. The fact that this angle is getting so much mainstream attention from the media might be what ultimately saves Jack Swagger's ass.

I'm not really expecting a lot from this potential segment, though maybe we'll all be surprised. After all, this angle in & of itself has generated a ton of controversy, yet WWE has been surprisingly classy with it. I'm sure the fact that Zeb Coulter, AKA Dirty Dutch, has one of the keenest minds in wrestling has something to do with it.

Hmm. Maybe they'll introduce a 3rd member of We The People who will be named Glen Beck, and the guy playing him will be a repulsive fat slob, who will act as if he's barely mentally competent.

Or they can parody him.

But their kayfabe-break in their latest video did take a lot of juice from this angle. When Wayne called J. Rodriguez his friend, that kinda killed it for me.

Mocking a right wing extremist who isn't even on TV anymore? An advertised fight between two old non-wrestlers? Boy it's gonna be a hot card Monday night in Dallas.

I don't think VKM will go as far with this parody as he did others. I do think they will make fun of beck's conspiracy theories which some are just insane. Despite Beck use to work for FoxNews he is a libertarian which is quite different than being a conservative. Its basically a more extreme conservative POV but lets not confuse a libertarian with a conservative

No surprise, A political pundit like Glenn Beck would be the last person who wants to drag his name in the mud by associating with "fake wrestling". Contrary to what Vince McMahon wants to think, most people in mainstream media have always viewed pro wrestling as low brow and it's audience as white trash. At best it's seen as childish. As for the storyline itself I think this is the kind of stuff wrestling needs to do, not necessarily generating controversy but rather giving their heels and faces more realistic motivations.

This may save Swagger's ass but not in the way you think - bottom line is he is making more headlines than the Rock is, for far less money and no one expects him to even be in the main event. They can still remove him as "punishment" - or they can let him through, run with it and he will be come a massive face. Whole point to his argument would be "I ain't perfect...We The People are not perfect..." and he's got the whole thing locked down. They can punish him later like Punk for hitting the fan and his contract wrangling... the policy says they CAN release him, not that they will...

Being a Mexican immigrant in this country, I find this storyline to be absolute gold! I like Coulter a lot he's definitely doing a lot for Swagger after a bad couple years of nothing but jobbing. I was pissed about tswagger getting arrested, I thought he just pissed away his grand opportunity, but who knows where this may go. I'm very interested in this story line way over rock cena. And definitely over anything named Hogan and Bully Ray, TNA just sucks but that's another story. I'll be watching Monday.

I never thought there was a chance of him accepting he's in a lose lose situation though I think they could turn it into some heel heat for Swagger by supporting Beck by saying that Swagger and Coulter are to extreme

Good for WWE to have a storyline/character getting some good 'controversial' publicity finally. It's been a while. Stoylines getting 'played out' in mainstream circles is the only thing that has at least a 2% chance of increasing viewership. Sometime while this storyline is still hot and getting mainstream exposure is when WWE should capatalize and jump at the opportunity to rebrand themselves. It's what will get a small part of the adult fandom back. WWE needs to keep poking Beck with a needle....maybe eventually he'll actually appear on WWE TV if he's allowed to speak unscripted and free to say whatever he wants. That's good exposure right there. Start a real 'war' with a well known talking head.....good stuff.

I don't like the sound of this. I can still remember that horrendous segment/"match" with the fake Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama not too long ago. And I only remember the heel/face tag team Lakers VS Nuggets garbage, because that's the night, when Mr. Kennedy returned from an injury, allegedly fucked up a suplex on Orton, and was fired shortly after that Raw.

Maybe this segment could help Swagger's character, and give him another boost, because he really needs it right now. The mainstream attention is a positive sign, and Swagger could use a nice distraction right now. But I'm not getting my hopes up for anything good.

Sounds like a horrible comedy segment that will go over most fans heads. It also sounds petty. I think they should let Mr Beck have his opinion and put this entire issue to rest. Mocking him will gain them nothing.

Glenn Beck mocks himself. & I don't want him to get more TV time than he already has. Saying he hates 9/11 victims families proves he is a horrible person that in no way shape or form deserves to be happy or even alive. Please WWE do not add fuel to the fire that is Glenn Beck.

Having seen the video of Swagger and Coulter inviting him, I can't say I'm very surprised that he turned it down. IT would be a crowd of wrestling fans for the most part, completely against him. He'd be an even bigger idiot than he normally is to show up.

I enjoyed the Coulter/Swagger response video, as it was fairly well-presented and not as bitter as I expected it to be. However, I think that's as far as it should go unless Beck himself chooses to escalate it. It's already a fairly petty deal, but his name was big enough for them to get some publicity. I would've preferred it if they just ignored the asshole, but whatever.

I just hope that they don't go their usual vindictive route. By poking more fun at him with some stupid skit, WWE could end up looking like real jerks and undermine the message they're trying to send. I understand the need to defend pro wrestling to critics, but to do it in an immature way would prove those critics right and that's the last thing wrestling needs.

Plus, most of the time when WWE chooses to get overly political or vindictive towards an outsider they don't like, it becomes boring and childish crap that punishes viewers more than anyone else. It's embarrassing. :disappointed:

If Vince is doing this parody thing to "get back" at Glen then Vince is delusional in his thinking that the world revolves around WWE, which it doesn't and never will.

From a personal perspective this sounds like a bad idea but in a three hour show you have to fill time with something. I've seen Jon Stewart parody Beck and I am sure he does a much better job than anything WWE is going to put together on such short notice. I also worry that pulling this type of stunt is a "jump the shark" moment for a angle that is working for me. Colter is doing a good job on his own.

From a business perspective I can't see this pulling in viewers or money that amount to more than a small bump. And if new or casual viewers tune in for this what is going to hook them to stay? Doesn't a Beck character take away if not confuse the viewer about Colter and Swagger's standing?

I don't know, I'll tolerate it and maybe even enjoy a little bit of it but probably not. I doubt they will really do a full parody. I would just reference that Beck insulted professional wrestling and it's fans but not say why. Enjoying something Glenn Beck hates can only endure WWE to more of it's juvenile fans.

I try to keep out of politics regularly, but Glenn Beck is someone that I think deserves mockery, and his careers based on inciting degradation and mockery.

I think it's a good thing for both sides honestly, Glenn Beck gains stock from having his name thrown around more, and WWE gets more heads turned their way from viewers outside their normal fans.

As long as they keep from getting sued while crossing a bunch of lines, It's in WWE's best interest to honestly create a ton of legitimate heat with Mr. Beck. The guy is very hated by the people who hate him.

This doesn't make much sense, really. The WWE brought Glenn Beck into this, not the other way around, with their comment that Jack Swagger receives fan mail from him. The response from the WWE is kind of like in the movie "The Sandlot" when Hamilton Porter tells that other kid he plays ball like a girl. The McMahons really seem to have most of you by the balls on this one. It's almost as embarrassing as Jack Swagger is.

McMahon is a conservative, so all of this surprises me. As a person who really dislikes the modern conservative, this is all hilarious to me. Coulter was AWESOME. Funny that beck was offended, the guy was basically beck in WWE for and he got offended. Now he'll get made fun of in front of millions of people.

They also mentioned rush Limbaugh and maybe Hannity too. Beck responded though. Beck brought himself into this. Maybe is beck wasn't such a dick, then a heel wrestling parody wouldn't have been made of him and people like him.

Lets see two wrestlers with zero charisma and zero drawing ability are calling out a guy who hasn't been on a main stream news station in two years... Well, since WWE can't create any new stars of note they are trying something stupid like this in a desperate attempt to get two guys over who don't have the talent to get over on their own. Also, with the country as divided as it is when it comes to topics like this they are sure to alienate viewers. Mcmahon is off his rocker. The guy needs to retire already. Sinking to sstupidity like this instad of concentratiing on creating a good wrestling (yeah I said it) product just shows this out of touch lunatics desperation to try to make his once relavent company seem like it still matters.

I am sure that is post will be deleted. Everytime I say anything bad about Messiah Mcmahon my post is deleted.

I dont give much credence to what Glenn Beck says. There are a shit ton of famous people, who are pretty smart, walking around and quoting WWE wrestlers and acting like them. Will Smith didnt use a Glenn Beck catchphrase in Men in Black 2.Maybe Swagger and Dutch should challenge Beck and Rush Limbaugh to a tag match.

It's probably best that Glenn Beck turned down the offer. Didn't they offer Beck 5 minutes to say whatever he wanted? Who knows what he could've said to damage WWE's rep. Maybe I'm over thinking it?

Beck is so damn condescending I'm glad this incident will only motivate others to rip him a new one. He chose to make a mountain out of a molehill by getting offended by the storyline and giving it air time, which ironically just helps Swagger and Zeb garner more heat. The parody will gain even more media attention, enough so that Beck either gets off his high horse and agrees to participate or shuts his mouth and lets WWE entertain like its always done.
