WWE SummerSlam: WWE Intercontinental Championship - The Miz (c) VS Apollo Crews

Jack-Hammer

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
Apollo Crews won a triple threat bout on SmackDown tonight to face Miz at SummerSlam for the IC title.

I'm not expecting a whole helluva lot here but this could be a sleeper match that turns out to be entertaining. I'm of the opinion that Crews isn't ready to be Intercontinental Champion; I'd like to see some promo work from him to help set up his backstory and character, give people a chance to connect with him as a persona.

With that said, I have a feeling that Crews walks out of SummerSlam with the title, it's simply a feeling that I've got. With Crews going after the IC title and Reigns probably getting a US title shot at SummerSlam, I think both mid-card titles change hands. I've enjoyed Miz's 5th run as champ, though I see the whole "new era" bit as being a key factor in why I think the title will change hands.

Apollo Crews isn't even main roster worthy, let alone Intercontinental Championship on the 2nd biggest show of the year worthy. This is a complete letdown of an IC title match for me. With any logic, this will be a quick and decisive victory for The Miz to raise his stock further. No way should Crews be touching this title.

Aquaman is just racist, or more likely a troll. If this is a new era then they should take a chance on Crews and hopefully they'll then take the Tim to actually cultivate a persona for him.

I'm a little annoyed that they just abruptly set-up this match, based on another match that was abruptly set-up.

I like some kind of drama with my prowrestling. It was neat of them to do a brawl after the match, but blah. Apollo is still a happy-faced doofus, and he'll surely be taking his demented optimism with him no matter what Miz does to kill his buzz. I'm not sure if that's Apollo's gimmick, or if he's permanently stuck that way.

The match will surely be good if it isn't great, but I prefer to have competitors for a belt at least get some kind of dramatic build toward their match. Maybe Apollo's parents are at ring-side and Miz antagonizes them, at this point I'm obviously willing to settle for cliché bullshit.

Apollo isnt ready. I see miz going over here or at least he should. They keep mentioning the number of days miz has been champion so i think he holds it for a long time to make it a big moment when he finally loses maybe at survivor series.

I'm on the Apollo bandwagon here. Everyone keeps saying Miz has been a great champion but for the goddamn life of me, I can't remember one feud or match he's had since he won it. Sure the guy's a great heel and can work a mic, but he hasn't done shit for the IC belt. There's no reason to keep it on him past Summerslam if they're not going to give him something interesting.

At least if Crews wins, it gives Corbin the opportunity to take it from him quickly. Anyway, I'm not convinced this remains a 1 on 1 match considering the ending to last night's segment. Triple threat with Corbin thrown in (and going over) would be ideal.

For me, now with the brand split under way, The Miz deserves one more shot at the main event scene, especially after all these years of great heel runs. So I'll say that Crews might be crowned the new IC champ.

If it was up to me, I'd have The Miz screw Crews here, only to give Crews a storyline where he climbs his way back at the IC title picture and then have him win the belt, possible in October or Survivor Series.

But like I said, I think the Miz will drop the title here and go on to become a credible upper midcarder and possible enter the main event scene against Ambrose, Styles and maybe refeud with Cena.

I don't like a guy who happens to be black, and that makes me a racist? Am I also racist against white people because I don't like Baron Corbin, or Samoans because I don't like Roman Reigns? You're a complete fucking idiot.

I do like Apollo Crews, but we need see more from him other than a small segment and a smiley interview and putting him with Miz who is an excellent heel is a great move. I don't expect Crews to win the belt here and he shouldn't win the belt here but it could be the start of a great program with Miz using heel tactics to get fans to actually care about Apollo. A few beatdowns, a DQ retain thrown in. This is exactly what Apollo needs.

If you take the strap out of the equation, this is a squash match on a random episode of Smackdown. Say what you want about Roman Reigns, it's obnoxious how badly the WWE wants Miz to get over. If you follow WWE on facebook, you have a post about the Miz everyday. Mind you, it's a post about nothing. He was beyond irrelevant. So what do you do with a guy that's irrelevant, you give them a championship in hopes they get over. It worked with the New Day, it's not working with Miz.

When I look at Crews, I see Ahmed Johnson and Bobby Lashely. A black guy with a great look and lots of potential. The first two fizzled out fairly quickly. Do I think that will happen with Crews? Not necessarily. And I won't ever root for someone to fail. But history is what it is.

Miz is going to win this match because without the belt, he's back to being nothing. The power couple gimmick is just dumb. I don't care if they are married. The wife adds nothing to the character. The IC title is the only thing Miz has going for him. Apparently the WWE wants people to watch his movies. That's the only reason I can come up with as to why he is getting the push that he is.

The Miz is already over and has been for many years, whether you like it or not. He's one of the best heels in the industry and has been for more than half a decade. Unlike, as you mentioned, Roman Reigns, The Miz actually EARNED his status, a hundred times over.

I think that post match attack by Baron Corbin conveys the message that he too is going to be involved in the title picture which makes the match better in my opinion.

It would be too soon for Crews to win this title who hasn't shown his character other than just smiling around. And of course Miz needs to lose the title now. Maybe WWE can give the title win to Corbin and see how he goes with his first title in WWE.

I would have rather seen Corbin vs. Miz but I guess they're saving it for Backlash or the the October PPV, could be one of the bigger storylines for Smackdown. Instead, of wasting it for Summerslam where it'd be overshadowed by the main events.
