WWE Saturday morning Superstars

Pre-Show Stalwart
Just a thought I had with all this pg stuff going on in the WWE today why dont they go back to the Saturday morning format with superstars. You remember with the promos infront of the wrestlers logo, interviews, and a few matches thrown in but in a old school format. Its just odd that theyre back to the old kid friendly product but theyre tv comes on at night I meen my kid can bearly stay up threw SmackDown never mind Raw thats on till 11:05.WWE being a part of the Universal family I think a network like NBC could get it on Saturday mornings better then the crap cartoons they show these days(how I miss the Smurfs).Just an idea wondering how you guys feel about it?

It wouldn't be the worst ideas, and you have a legitimate point. My little brothers haven't seen an episode of RAW in their lives, and they only see half of SmackDown. I think it would be a good way to draw in a few younger viewers.

That's not a bad idea, actually. Sure, its something I would've never tought about it, but when you think about it it does make a whole lot of sense to move Superstars to Saturday mornings instead of Thursday nights. Superstars to me is boring. And I'm sure other people sure think the same given its neilson ratings. But the little kiddies don't know the meaning of boring. As long a they get to see some WWE action, they sure as heck watch it. I'd say it be a heck of a lot better than what they show nowadays on Kids WB (or CW 4Kids-whatever its called now).

Having the Superstars show moved to Saturday mornings would be a good idea...well it'd at least be better than having it on Thursdays...

I like the idea and actually the whole concept of having a PG show in an adult time-frame never made any sense to me. I'd actually like to see a return of the jobbers/squash matches on a show of that type. Build up the superstars heading into Raw, Smackdown! or a PPV.

This makes complete sense. As long as they don’t do it completely the way WWF Superstars was before, meaning Superstar vs. Jobbers. Everything else would be fine, and maybe even better than where Superstars is now. Putting them on NBC would probably gain a lot more viewers, because the channel is available to everybody and the time slot.

I missed waking up every saturday and being able to flip on WWE. It was always a good way to start my day. I would love to see it back on.

It's a sound idea. Saturday mornings could do with a bit of wrestling that is (these days) no worse than the old Road Runner cartoons. Since the WWE is going for a family friendly product, there shouldn't be any problem with this time slot. It'd be a lot better than the disastrous experiment a long time ago with actually creating a cartoon show based around WWF wrestlers.

My thought in terms of why this hasn't been done is probably due to oversensitive parents who wouldn't want their kids watching it anyways. The reason they'd probably give is that while the WWE is now bloodless and has toned down the violence a great deal, it is still real people depicting said violence and they don't want their kids (who might just be ignorant of the fact that they aren't really hurting each other) imitating it. It might force them to do some actual parenting.

Still, I'd be behind this idea if it were implemented.

This is a great idea! Someone mentioned with the PG product and push for the younger audience, what better way to do it! Saturday Morning programming SUCKS!!! Except for ABC running old MMPR episodes. And maybe move Superstars to a more network network. I'm in Texas and if you don't have satellite or real lucky with your cable provider, you don't get WGN. Great idea!

question. Why do you think superstars is boring? Is it Because it has only wrestling? Is it because they let solid mid carders wrestle in the m.e.? Is it because they allow the divas have decent matches? Well getting back to the topic, I would love a saturday morning wrestling show. I totally agree that its the perfect time for it with them having cena, mysterio, and taker so over with kids. Kids adore them and would watch that over cartoons. But their is the problem. They would have to have those big stars. Or you would atleast need a santino or hornswogles. And you would need promos. Thats why it can't be superstars. Superstars has mid carders that don't get alot or any time on raw and smackdown. Kids won't just watch a superstars type of show over cartoons. They have short attention spans and as the KID I quoted showed me, would think it was boring. So they should leave superstars on thursdays and start a more entertainment type of wrestling show on saturdays. Maybe even have a show filled with highlights from that weeks shows and original promos shot for that show. I remember a show like that on sunday mornings in the 90's.

That show you are refering to is LiveWire, and to me watching wrestling since a toddler, that show sucks, so i dont think they should come back with a highlight show(A.M RAw is garbage), However Superstars being on saturdays is wats up, I remember as a youth watching and enjoying every second of it and some big superstars got big pushes on thhis show(from what i remember) Ultimate Warrior had his ru on there, Undertaker used to be on superstars alot and i will never forget that country tune that started it out in the 90's.... I think its also a great thing for kids as everyone else and agree that they should put it on a channel that is not primetime, like when i was a kid Superstars came on Fox right after saturday morning cartoons, and i aslo agree the cartoons nowadays sukc ass and have been since about 2006 and might be giving them a lil more credit than suppos, but anyway Great idea and Great thread.......

Superstars is BORING because they show the same matches over and over again. Last year, for a good number of consecutive weeks, the main event was Cryme Tyme vs. Hart Dynasty. Sure, their matches were descent...but to see the same thing over and over again is BORING. No matter how you look at it, the same wrestlers are the only to appear on Superstars are Primo, William Regal, Jillian Hall, Chris Masters etc. (Note: all these guys are not "solid" mid carders...they are jobbers/low-carder(?) or as I call them...jokes). The same people over and over just in recycled matches. Please, dood, I enjoy "rastling". Mexican wrestling the best, where almost everyone knows how to wrestle. But thats a whole nother story.

Back to the Thread, Superstars is best left for the kiddies on Saturday, it will most definately garner more viewers/ratings on Saturday mornings at least more than what they are getting now...average of 750,000 viewers a week.

In the current PG era, I am surprised they haven't altered the timing of all the brands to a more ideal time for children.
The product is currently aimed toward a certain audience at such age which could lead to a possible boom in viewing figures if scheduled more appropriately. It will help in the long run. Kids are impressionable . They will stick with something if it entertains them, and eventually it grows into a routine.
The problem is a lot of the audience it's aimed at, are usually asleep half way through, which is isn't a good sign..unless you are a parent...or unless you, the parent, falls asleep and leaves the child unsupervised. But you will soon wake up, there is rarely a few minutes that goes by without a forced laugh by Michael Cole, which cringes you out of your comatose state.
My long-winded point is, viewing figures would be better if WWE were to be shown in the evening, sure the overall product would suffer, but some may say it already has, but as the kids grow, I believe the product will too.
The WWE has everything you could want from a show. It has action, it has drama, and even its moments of comedy.
I may of slightly drifted off topic, so in conclusion, I think Saturday morning Superstars would be a positive move, and may even have a domino like effect and bring the main brands earlier also if the figures are impressive. The only thing I worry about is the way that could effect the actual wrestling. It is hugely annoying when they cut away to the audience for minor things like....a sleeper hold.

So that was my first post, I hope it abided the many rules to posting :)

Does anyone know when the WGN contract for Superstars ends? If it's any time soon and they want to continue the PG format, I could see them potentially moving it to USA or another, more mainstream network. As it is, where I live, I don't even get WGN as part of a pretty all-encompassing cable package and have to watch it on Hulu.

Back in the day, we used to have WWF Mania on USA and Superstars would come on afterward on I think NBC, and was even followed by WWF Wrestling Challenge, sometimes directly and sometimes an hour or two later in the day. It made Saturday mornings ten times more exciting for me, because there was a wealth of programming that I could enjoy. I couldn't always stay up for Prime Time Wrestling/Raw, so this was a great way to be involved as a youngster. In my opinion, it would greatly increase the younger fanbase, if not the fanbase as a whole. I'm not sure they'd expand it beyond an hour, seeing as how the matches are filmed at Raw and Smackdown/NXT tapings, but they've got a ton of talent they're doing nothing with. Either way, it would be a great way to get these guys some exposure, which might even help their careers.

What I'm hoping for if they go back to this format is an old school vibe with alot of promos, interviews, and a few matches sprinkled in where they could get unseen talent on tv against more established stars kinda like the old Jobbers vs Stars format except these "jobbers" would actually be WWE up and comers and maybe every once in a while a unknown goes over a star ala 123 Kid vs Razor Ramon.WWE could probobly record a few matches from house shows that way it doesnt have the Raw or SmackDown look.Id say even set up the announce table far away from the ring like they used to for that unique look.I think it would be a hit I know I'd watch it, and at the very least WWE would sell a shit load of merch to kids.
