WWE Roster Cuts, Should Be Released, and "Future Endeavored" Discussion

So last year WWE had alot of unexpected releases wrestlers such as,The Brian Kendrick,Mr Kennedy,Manu,Sim snuka,And R.I.P Umaga. Some of them were going to be main eventer like Mr Kennedy,Umaga and some were just starting very good fued Manu,Sim vs Legacy,And The Brian Kendrick was really stepping up.So my question is which wrestler do you think WWE will release this year?Would it be a main eventer?Or will it be a midcard wrestler who was just stepping up the ladder to become a main eventer?Just to say it all Which unexpected wrestlers will WWE release this year?

One unexpected release that looks like if it happens, it will happen soon might be Shane Helms. The Helms/Jericho incident got a lot of unwanted press from TMZ. While not a major issue in the grand scheme of things, Helms was sent home for a few weeks, presumably as a punishment.

As for anyone else over the next year, and I hate to say it, Jack Swagger. His stock has dropped dramatically over the last year. Evan Bourne and Chris Masters may be low on the totem poll, but at least they are still pretty consistently on TV. I can't remember when was the last time Swagger had an actual match on TV (Royal Rumble fluff not withstanding).

The Great Kahli w/ Ranjin Singh, Luke Gallows, Tyler Reks, Curt Hawkins, Paul Burchill, Abraham Washington; Katie Lea, Eve, Savannah, Layla and of much to my chagrin, Maria... then the big surprises... Matt Hardy and Mark Henry, none of this list would upset me, cuz like stacy kiebler before her, we havent seen the last of Maria...

Swagger wrestled last week on Raw against HHH and actually had a good showing.

As for who would be the most unexpected person to be released, surely you have to say John Cena, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho etc, as most other folk can be viewed as disposable.

If Evan Bourne was released, would you REALLY be thinking, 'Wow I didn't expect that, he's only jobbed to just about everyone on Raw'? I think a better area of discussion would be something like, 'Who would you not like to see leave the WWE this year in the midcard area?' Or something like that

Do you think any of these people would be released. We have already seen that vince will dig in his pocket just to keep someone from going to TNA. if he is will to let charlie haas sit around i dont think he would let any of these others go. the only viable one i could see if abraham washington. hell kung fu naki is still running around. i think if anything vince will just trim the training talents that are trying to get into the wwe main event shows. i mean instead of releasing they should start putting some tag teams together and make it reputable again. instead of dx running around with the titles. i dont even notice them having the titles half the time. sorry to get off track. i guess if i would pick someone it would be vladimir koslov

Well looking down the roster, these are all possibilities.

Carlito and Primo

It's a matter of time really. One will go and the other will follow. I'm amazed Carlito is still around but I don't think he'll be convinced to stay again after being lied to last time.

Evan Bourne

I don't know when Bournes contract is up but I'm fairly confident he won't be renewing it. He's been vocally unhappy for months and although the WWE won't want to let him go, if he's determined he's a certainty to show up in TNA.

Jack Swagger

I truly don't believe the WWE will be stupid enough to release Swagger any time soon when he has such obvious potential. They've badly dropped the ball with him though.

MVP

Possible but unlikely I think.

Dolph Ziggler

Oh WWE, how you screwed yourself over with this one time and time again. You gave him a shit name and he got past it, he showed ability, put on decent matches and then you buried him. I'm hoping he goes to TNA just as a fuck you to the WWE.

Jimmy Wang Yang

I was surprised to find he's still employed. Not for long I'd guess

Matt Hardy

If Jeff goes to TNA, Matt is fucked and will have to join him.

I've come to believe you don't what you are talking about. All of the people i bolded there, there is ZERO chance of WWE losing.

Gallows was repackaged and is part of the best angle in Smackdown ATM (in my opnion the Straight Edge Society thing trumps anything else they have been doing), Khali is an international superstar-he's huge in India (he's huge everywhere hardee har har), Abe Washington has been pushed to the moon on ECW with his talk show, Eve is a constant on Raw, Savannah has been pushed as well, Layla is part of the most controversial Women's angle since Wrestlemania 22, and Maria, much to MY chagrin, will be sticking around. She was voted diva of the year by the ignorant WWE universe, to whom it was nothing more than a beauty pageant, and even then i think it was a poor choice. Even though she can't wrestle, she is the "pretty face" (beauty is in the eye of the beholder i guess) of WWE, and is even on The Apprentice this year.

ZERO CHANCE.

My guess for surprise releases are Gail Kim, though it shouldn't be a surprise, Evan Bourne, which is a shame, and Randy Orton. JUST KIDDING. But seriously, Gail and Bourne are no doubt on the chopping block.

While I personally don't see that many surprises on the "We wish them well in future endeavors" list, I do see a handful of superstars leaving WWE.
Matt Hardy- He's as good as gone right now. Had his heel push killed after his injury last year, never capitalized off the feud with Edge ( which MADE Edge a legit main event player ), and now is carrying The Great Khali in a tag team going nowhere fast. If Matt is still on the roster by Summerslam, I'll be surprised.
The Colons- They're done for. Just collecting WWE paychecks until they can go back to their dad's promotion to be the top guys. Nepotism RULES!
Shelton Benjamin- I love Shelton's atheticism in the ring, but he will NEVER be a main event guy in the WWE. He needs a change of scenery, now. He would be HUGE in either Japan or Mexico.
I also see a lot of curtain jerkers being cut loose.

I don't see how Kim is on the chopping block. She is fighting for the Divas title against Maryse. She could very easily win that match. As for the guy we rambled off the list, there is a slim chance some of them get cut. I highly doubt they give the axe to Mark Henry. The guy has been a loyal commodity and will probably stick around until he retires. Luke Gallows is in the midst of a solid push just because of his association with CM Punk. I could go on, but beef stated all the others and there really is no need to repeat.

I could possibly see Jimmy Wang Yang, Slam Master J/Jesse (whatever the hell his name is now), Primo, Paul Burchill, and Hurricane Helms get the axe. I'm not so sure they will get rid of Matt Hardy or even consider it, because that would leave the doors open for TNA to do a possible Hardy Boyz reunion.

You have a damn short memory. Last weekon Raw he wrestled HHH and looked strong in defeat.

I am still a little surprised that Helns is still in the company. No one likes that kind of bad press against the company by a lesser guy on the roster. Rhyno had more potential than Helms does, he all it took was a broken vase in a hotel room for him to be released, not an assault charge, and bad press on TMZ.

I'm not surprised that Helms is still with the company. First he got bad press on TMZ, who takes TMZ seriously anyway and Jericho got bad press out of this and he was release either and he now on a ppv world title match and will probably main event wrestlemania.

Secondly their wasn't any assault charge because the girl that was hit by helms said it was an accident and the taxi driver over-reacted. The WWE knows that it was an accident so they will punish Helms and then go on with their lives.

Has for the Rhyno situation, i don't think it was just the broken vase that made them release rhyno at the time. It was just vase was just the last straw.

They won't release Helms because one it would seem like favouritism if they fired Helms and kept Jericho. Secondly Helms has a decent fan base which brings in money and WWE likes money, thirdly they know he'll end up in TNA if they fired him and they'd rather keep him than give him to the competition

Funaki
Personally i hate this guy all too much. I would love to see Funaki get released but that won't happen as i hear he is like Stephenie McMahons assisant or something so thats out of the question.

Primo
I see no reason why this guy is still even with the WWE. He is Jack Swaggers bitch(well maybe not anymore as Swaggers push is gone) he even lost to Chavo Guerrero who was the biggest jobber in the WWE in 2009. He got 3 minutes of what could've been a great fued with Carlito.

Charlie Haas
I heard Kurt Angle had something for this guy in TNA but WWE didn't want to lose him(Apparently losing a jobber is a bad thing for WWE just ask Ricky Ortiz) so they gave him an apparent "Big raise". The guy is very talented and deserves better but won't get it anytime soon for no apparent reason.

Finlay
This is a guy who is a seasoned veteran who has wrestled all around the world just like William Regal. As a heel he was just great and cheated to win matches and whenever he did that we were all like "That fucker! He cheated & won! DAMN HIM!!". He trained the likes of CM Punk. He is the trainer of the divas backstage he made Trish Straus and Victoria great wrestlers and one of the people that made Maryse a decent wrestler. I am just saying this guy should leave WWE for better either that or stay backstage like Jamie Noble.

Jimmy Wang Yang
One of the wrestlers that are suffering since the end of the cruiserweight championship. He has gotten 1 win in 2009 and that was a tag match. Again he should leave for something better.

Mike Knox
A big man that i have been seeing is getting better very suprisingly. A guy that debuted in ECW with probably only 6 moves to do. He now does a very cool running crossbody and I even saw the guy do a freakin' Dropkick once. On Smackdown he debuted new elements to his character that included knowledge of biology and the human anatomy, using this knowledge to methodically inflict pain upon his opponents He is a guy that never got a win of 2009 or maybe even 1 or 2 televised ones but i don't count house show victories.

Slam Master J
A guy who just barely got his job saved by his farthers tag team partner but got 2 wins this year and jobbed since then. He formed Team Jobber I with Jimmy Wang Yang and beat Team Jobber II comprising of Charlie Haas & Mike Knox on one occasion(and they say the tag team division is dead in WWE?)

Goldust
This guy is long past his prime. We found out though in 2007 that the grass is not greener on the otherside in TNA. The guy picked up quite a alot of wins in ECW but now that ECW is gone I predict the guy will not appear on T.V for a few months and probably debut on RAW or Smackdown and job to the likes of Dolph Ziggler or Jack Swagger(People who have lost their pushes) without the chance to have a good match like the one he had with Sheamus.

Paul Burchill
This guy is like a young William Regal in my opinion. He was a juggernaut in RAW for the first few months then started jobbing to the likes of Jamie Noble & Batista. He then went to ECW where he did nothing for a long time until his final time in ECW where he had a great fued with the Hurricane ending in a great match to end the fued. Now where is he? Nowhere except working dark matches as a face for RAW.

Matt Hardy
Having met the guy before he is a nice guy and quite funny. He lost 70% of 2009 and being paired with The Great Khali makes 2010 look VERY bad for him. It is unfair how he is the better wrestler of the 2 Hardys and has better mic skills. He got punished for what happened to Jeff which is just crap. He should leave fast for like i said something better.

Chavo Guerrero
Pretty self explanatory if you looked through most of his 2009 matches. He deserves better but from reading his Twitter he doesn't care. You have to respect that.

These are people that should be released or should just leave as they deserve better.

Wow...these topics always make me feel a little bad, as it basically boils down to me saying "who should stop earning a paycheck doing something that they love to do?" But knowing that WWE's a publicly-traded company, and having been an employee of one of those in my past who was made a part of the "future endeavors" club because the company assumed that the error margin made by Indian employees proofing English would be low enough to justify the salary savings...I get it. So who would I can? Hmmmm...

1) Layla - When I first saw her, with her big, curly, Kelis-esque hair, my girlfriend and I both loved her and wanted her to make it to the top as quickly as possible. Now she's 2nd fiddle to the single most overrated female wrestler in the business today. Layla honestly doesn't provide a single thing to any segment in which she's featured, so why keep her?

2) Tiffany - See Layla, except she didn't even have tons of potential.

3) Funaki - Please, unless he's guaranteed a check for life from these guys, just let him go! I'm sure he still has some good years of wrestling left in him, and has to be in great shape, due to the lack of wear & tear his body's taken over the years!

4) Jimmy Yang - This man on the sidelines is one of the biggest wastes of talent I can imagine. The X-Division in TNA would be a Heaven for a guy with his talents, as he'd give it immediate credibility while finally getting to showcase his talents!

5) Matt Hardy - I truly mean this. The poor guy has been the shining example of goodness in the WWE, while his brother has shit all over their rules and been pushed to the moon. He deserves better, whether from TNA, ROH, DGUSA, EVOLVE or anything in Japan or Mexico. He's still young, he is popular, but WWE seems intent on killing his steam at every opportunity. It's really a bit sad.

6 & 7) Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas -Again, these guys might only be destined to be perennial midcarders, based on their mic skills, but in-ring talents like theirs should absolutely not be wasted! It's really rather selfish on the WWE's behalf to keep them around, as both men are natural athletes who should be allowed to regularly show off what it is about them that makes them so intriguing: their wrestling skill. Benoit never lit up the mic, so why do these guys suddenly need to be The Rock on the mic? A shame that more hasn't been done with them, really....

8) Vladimir Kozlov - They tried. They REALLY tried. And while it seemed like he was just about the pan out, he absolutely sandbagged his whole performance in the No Way Out 2009 Elimination Chamber match, and has been relegated to a background muscle role on the C-Brand show ever since. Give him back to Jerry Jarrett and see if he can pull a fast one on Hogan with him; tell him that this guy's the "next Nikita Koloff" or something...Hogan would probably make Angle wrestle him for a year, and then Kozlow might actually become good! Imagine that!

9 & 10) Carlito & Primo Colon - Carlito Caribbean Cool came in with so much fanfare and hype, and actually lived up to it! But he rubbed some people backstage the wrong way, was labelled as being a little bit lazy, and has been in the doghouse for years as a result. His also-talented but far less interesting brother, Primo, was brought in to seemingly just keep Carlito in check. However all of that goes, I think that WWE just isn't the place for them. They'd absolutely shine in Mexico or Puerto Rico, they'd be a great fit in TNA without really needing to modify their names, ROH would eventually warm up to a Carlito Colon who was allowed to do the moves of which he's actually capable, and Primo would fit in wonderfully in the X-Division of TNA, in Dragon Gate USA, or pretty much anywhere else you'd want to put him where wrestling matters over personality.

I think that others are being misused, for sure, but these are the ones who just seem like awful matches for the company. I hope those paychecks keep them happy, but I really think that a lot of those aforementioned wrestlers could become quite popular and famous outside of WWE.

From PWI:

WWE announced today that they have release Shane Hurricane/Gregory Helms. Helms had been on the ECW brand of late. He had been with the company since they absorbed WCW in 2001, leaving Chavo Guerrero as the final WCW roster member to maintain his WWE position since that time.

I'm not really surprised by the release of the hurricane considering what happen with him and Jericho a month back. Considering the fact that he has only been on TV once since the incident, you had to think action was about to be taken.

Thinking about it, the release of Hurricane Helms is a little disappointing for me. His character was usually entertaining to me and he was very solid in the ring.

I wouldn't be surprised if he went over to TNA and I'm sure they would be happy to take him. Rest to sure, this superhero will not stay down forever.....give him about 90 days.

That would be 90 days bub. No-compete clause remember? But yeah let's hope that he goes to TNA hopefully NOT under a superhero gimmick. Remember Super Eric?...And I'm pretty pissed off about Burchill's release. He'd have been perfect re-teaming with Regal....

Oh yeah, it's 90 days isn't it. Thanks.

Anyways, I wouldn't mind him going to TNA with the superhero gimmick, but seeing him with his heel Gregory Helms character would be also good to see, especially in the X-division. I always thought that that character was pretty decent and I wouldn't mind a return of it.

Just read on another site that both of them have been released. Personally this sucks as Paul was one of my favorites and was never given a chance to really shine like he could. I have a feeling we will see Shane in TNA soon. Perhaps Paul as well.

Im kinda glad Hurricane Helms was released, i mean we all know his charecter has been very very stale for a while now and he wasnt gonna make it on RAW and SmackDown. Who else should be released? I can think of a few off the top of my head. Charlie Hass, possibly Tyler Reks, and possibly Vance Archer. Now with the ECW roster being spit up and some let go, they just need to make more room.

I'd like to see Haas go too but only so that he can actually be put to use elsewhere. Reks is one that the jury's out on, I'd have to see a bit more of him, but I rather like Vance Archer....more than Shame-us in any case. I'm surprised that WWE hasn't released Katie Lea as well....Maybe she'll be allowed to feud with, say, Gail Kim.

It seems like both TNA and WWE have this issue going on... They both have a lot of really great talent, and have no idea how to use all of it. Do you know what that tells me? It tells me that the writing teams need to be refreshed, and added to if need be. If the current teams can't write something for everyone on the payroll, bring in someone who can.

Seriously, the WWE just released Paul Birchell and Hurricane Helms and Maria. I'm not a big Pirate Paul fan, but he's not ever close to the worst person on the roster. And why release a guy with tenure like Helms before you release one of the newer, talentless drones?

WWE is still paying guys like Hornswoggle and Big Dick Johnson, and they can't find money for Paul and Helms? Really? If the WWE wasn't scared to death of firing a Guerrero, I bet Chavo would be the next to go. But they want Vickie, so Chavo stays. He's never used, but he stays.

It's dissapointing to me year after year that so many awesome guys get cut, when they could be entertaining the world. I love Hurricane Helms, and they put him in ECW because they couldn't figure out what to do with him. And now they cut him for the same reason. Take your big shot writing staff, shine em up real nice, turn them sonbitches sideways, and stick them straight up Vince McMahon's candy ass!

Does Vince McMahon have ZERO vision for what his market wants? He would rather hire people like Slam Master J, Shaemus, Khali (no offense buddy, but you're useless)... Carltio, Chris Masters, Shelton Benjamin, Evan Bourne, Rey Mysterio, John Morrison, the Miz, Charlie Haas, Yoshi Tatsu, etc... These are guys that could be putting on legitimate feuds and shows every week, but Vince's mentally challenged writing staff can't handle booking more than one or two people on every show. Seriously, how much does it take to get John Cena's story down? He comes out, acts all intense, cuts a promo about how pissed off he is, and then gets in a brawl, gets screwed over, and makes them tap out at some high profile venue. It's that easy. An hours work...tops, and you have John Cena scripted for a month. Shelton Benjamin however, gets to rot on EW-FAIL for a year and do nothing. Christian should be in the World Title match with Jericho and Edge, because the chemistry the three of them share is insane. They could have put together a great program for the three of them, but instead Christian will get lost in the midcard, lose at MITB, and do nothing for the rest of the year.

Come on WWE, get a better writters staff.

They seemed to be starting a story line with her and Matt then the release her? She may not have been a great wrestler, but she had a way of keeping your attention while on tv. Besides being gorgeous, but WWE seems to do this a lot with letting people go for no reason. Wouldn't be shocked if she is in TNA by the end of 2010.

There has got to be a lot more behind this one. Celebrity Apprentice has not even aired and she has an album coming out in April. My husband thinks we should have the full story by the end of the day.

Even though I care nothing about Maria at all, I find this odd. As noted earlier, didn't she just win WWE Diva of the year? I know she shouldn't have won that award anyhow, she didn't deserve it for the past year (Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Melina, take your pick, anyone of those girls were more deserving for 2009). But you are really just going to release her like that? It's kind of funny. Good luck in TNA.

Also, I find it funny that some people though the pairing of her and Matt Hardy would somehow shed 50 pounds of worthlessness right off of Matt. Hahaha, that is the best part about this. Oh well, I guess he can focus on his AMAZING partnership wit The Punjabi PlayBoy haha.
