AegonTargaryen
Championship Contender
As of now, there are the four matches announced for Payback:-
Last Man Standing Match
Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena
No Holds Barred Elimination Match
Evolution vs. The Shield
WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
Bad News Barrett (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
WWE United States Championship Match
Sheamus (c) vs. Cesaro
Now obviously, this card already looks to have far more potentiality than what was seen on Extreme Rules. I myself had created a thread called The Un-extremity of Extreme Rules. I watched Extreme Rules too. I enjoyed the Daniel Bryan-Kane match, despite many DB fans detesting everything about that storyline post-WM30. I also enjoyed John Cena-Wyatt cage match and found it thoroughly engaging despite being totally drab and lacklustre as far as "wrestling" is concerned. Shield-Evolution match was practically mediocre and overrated. The only extreme thing about it was seth rollins jumping off and Dean Ambrose falling down a stairwell while leaning on to the railing. Roman Reigns does little more than variations of the punch/clothesline, his overrated "Oh I'm a scary samoan dude" grimaces, and the spear and it wouldn't be injustice to say that Roman Reigns is not half as impressive a wrestler as Batista was back in 2003(and that's not saying much).
Beyond all these main-events, Extreme Rules was a pretty mediocre ppv and terrible for the "Extreme Rules" specialty. But the card of Payback so far is actually an Extreme Rules card and it will only get better if they don't include throwaway matches like Divas championship, and Rusev beating two black jobbers. By the bye, Wade Barrett beating Big E even though cool, was as unimpressive or average a match for the IC title as it gets. Should've been Van Dam vs Cesaro, Swagger, or Barrett in any combination.
John Cena and Bray Wyatt in a Last Man Standing could be better than the cage because it is easier for Superman Cena to decimate any of the interfering Wyatts in a LMS than from inside a cage.
Both the IC and US title matches are guaranteed to be awesome considering the players involved. (Sheamus and BNB are more engaging wrestlers than Big E anyways, and Rob Van Dam and Cesaro are embodiments of atheletic magnificience.)
Finally, Shield and Evolution will be far more better because:- 1)It's the second encounter, 2)No Holds Barred , 3)Elimination means it'll be captivating to see who will be left to face HHH, Roman Reigns, or the entire Shield.
Considering how average Extreme Rules was for an Extreme Rules event, Payback could be far more better an event, with some Extremity of its own. With Daniel Bryan having to relinquish the title, it'll only be more intriguing to see who will be the new champion come Payback.
Do you agree that Payback 2014 seems to be a potentially better event, and even Extreme Rules come a month late?
What are you excited about concerning Payback?
