WWE Offers Contract to Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos

rge2010

Mid-Card Championship Winner
Belowing is taken from another website. For those of you who don't know who she is, she is the Strike Force fighter who sometimes wears the "Hitman" Fight Gear...and yes, it is Pink and Black. I think with WWE striking that deal with Brazilian TV to show for free the other week this would be a great move. I also think she would add some good weight to the Divas Division. Her and Awesome Kong would be interesting!

Sources close to Strikeforce Women's Middleweight Champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos indicate the Brazilian mixed martial artist is in negotiations with World Wrestling Entertainment.

Two weeks ago, Cristiane attended a WWE live event in California with her husband, Strikeforce fighter Evangelista Santos. She was offered a contract on the spot.

Christiane has not been offered a fight since her June 26, 2010 bout against Jan Finney. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker declined to comment on the matter, but it is largely assumed the promotion has been unable to find any willing participants over the course of the past nine months.

.....definitely not a move I'd expect from the W.

Mixed opinion on this. For Santos, it's all positive. I think she got $2,000 for her last fight. TNA is giving out more money then that. For the WWE, I'm not as sure. Ken Shamrock was primarily a grappler, which is a style that translates easily to professional wrestling. Santos can grapple (if you can't, you don't succeed in MMA these days), but is much better known as a striker. You can't be hauling off on people in a pro wrestling ring every week, unless your stage name ends in Holly. It'll take a while to get her adapted to a pro wrestling style.

I'm interested in seeing how this plays out.

Dude, take whatever you see on wikipedia with a pinch of salt anyone can post on the site, and it is not on there now(I'm assuming you go the info from wikipedia and not just the photo, if so my bad) However if the WWE were to sign her then it would be a fantastic signing and could rejuvinate the womens division.

This is a bizarre move from Vince, even by the his high (or should that be low) standards. Cristine Santos is a good, not great, fighter. But her english is lousy and she nows fuck all about wrestling. Surely they would remember the disaster of both Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock?

I realise the wwe has two major issues connecting this move, their womens' division is crap, Kong and Neidhart aside, and Dana White is kicking Vince's ass on PPV. Now I'm sure for VKM, Levesque, Steph and Dunn this seems like the logical answer, but it's not. This type of person, bar a minor miracle, will not be able to develop a story in the ring and a character the fans will by into outside of it. Plus it makes worse the situation where the wwe and wrestling went from the fans believing things that didn't hurt actually did, to now where they don't believe things that actually do hurt really do. There's also the risk of injuries from someone trained to actually hurt people going in there with a collection of divas who know sod all about staying safe from some only making it look like it hurts. And as for making a dent on MMA? with the effort put into the women's division, no chance.

The McMahon-Levesque family have to get over the idea that people who look good in the gym make great wrestlers. The only good thing about this is that alongside Kong it shows that Kevin Dunn and Levesque are no longer picking potential divas from a lingerie catalogue!

I have never really heard of this woman, but just done a quick bit of research and she looks like one mean bitch!

Definitely interested to see what happens with her, I would expect she would snap up a WWE contract considering how low the pay-offs she has been receiving are and at least she is a legitimate athlete, not a swimsuit model who WWE are trying to turn into a wrestler.

She would not be able to rely on strikes though, but as she does MMA I am sure she would be able to learn to grapple pretty easily, so I reckon she could probably adapt to the WWE style ok.

Stunning 6-pack too, she is ripped to fuck. Adding her to the WWE womens division would certainly liven it up a bit. I wouldnt be shocked if WWE made her get a tit job though

I hope WWE wouldn't make her get a titty job. She will still fight professionally I bet, and fake boobs could ruin it.

But I don't know why WWE would try and hire her unless they are trying to make the Diva's seem more legit. I know no MMA fan would believe Cyborg losing to someone like McCool or Kelly Kelly.

But have her in matches against Kong? That could be very interesting.

This could also be HHH being an overseer of Johnny Ace who is known for hiring models from a magazine (even though most Divas were models before wrestling, i.e. Trish).

Shit, if she's got nothing to do and there's no women left in MMA to take her on then why not take a regular job with WWE.

Vince has his claws out and it looks like he has finally decided to seal WWE's dominance over TNA.
At least with the Divas at this point, Tag division will hopefully follow. There's nothing wrong with giving something all your attention though so I'll have to wait and see I guess.

This Woman will No Doubt be Immense in wrestling. There's a lot of good things going on in WWE right now and bizarrely they're all south American.

I cant remember where I head this but the reason alot of MMA guys and college wrestlers dont do good at pro wrestling is because in MMA or college they are trained to win where as in wrestling its not about winning its about entertaining and selling. Alot of the MMA and college guys cant get that and thus they fail.

A majority of the wrestlers out there were college wrestlers at some point. Dolph Ziggler was a college wrestler, Shelton Benjamin a college wrestler, Brock Lesnar was a national champion in wrestling. Kurt Angle everyone knows about his wrestling background, Jack Swagger another college wrestler, off the top of my head I cant think of any others, but I'm sure there are a good many others how had a college wrestling background.

Oh yeah of course you have the Steiner brothers.

Most with a college wrestling background are among the best all around chain-wrestlers out there.

Now on top the topic at hand. Cyborg joining WWE? Now that would be interesting, it does look like WWE has been taking the divas in a different direction as of late, so who knows.

But I'll say one thing, shockingly her name hasn't been brought up yet.

Chyna

I could see her as being Chyna all over again. My guess is if she joined WWE any time soon, she would serve a some wrestlers body guard the same way Chyna did for Triple H. She would then over time work into the role as a diva wrestler, the way Chyna did, and work on the mic and everything else that goes with being in the WWE. But I highly doubt she joins and instantly becomes an active diva wrestler, that just never happens in WWE when your talking about someone with the talent or looks like Cyborg, she just looks more like someone who will be a body guard first, again just like Chyna. But I could be wrong.

Again with the Chyna part, remember she joined the WWE acting as some "fan" who kept attacking I think Marlina or something I'm not for sure. I could see Cyborg acting as some "fan" jumping the railing and attacking some diva and having that all lead to some match.

Thats all if she actually did get signed by WWE.

This would be a great move for the WWE. This chick is athletic and tough which is what the womens division is lacking in the WWE. Plus she has a fighting background which has worked out well for pro wrestlers in the past and it instantly legitimizes their in ring character. I would love to see her and Awesome Kong go at it as she would be the only woman who could stand up to Kong one on one and be believable. If she could pull off the transition she could be a great asset to the WWE.

More on the story:

News broke last night that sources close to Strikeforce Women's Middleweight Champion Cris "Cyborg" Santos indicate the Brazilian mixed martial artist is in negotiations with World Wrestling Entertainment to permanently join the promotion. In an update on the situation, BloodyElbow.com reports that according to a source, talks are in the "advanced" stage as a deal could soon be reached. However, the MMA news site also speculates that those affiliated with Cyborg could be using the claims for leverage with Strikeforce to have a fight scheduled.

Santos has not been offered a fight since her June 26, 2010 match against Jan Finney. It is largely assumed the promotion has been unable to find any willing participants over the course of the past nine months.

Meanwhile, former WWE Women's Champion Beth Phoenix took to Twitter to comment on the rumors of Cyborg possibly joining WWE.

She wrote, "Rumours of Chris Cyborg coming to WWE are.....Interesting...its easy to dominate in any fighting division without the Glamazon. In WWE? Prepare to humbled by yours truly."

ps: Can WZ credit me this time? They didnt last time. I posted the news here hours before the main page.

They don't check the forums, you will have to email it into them. we are not associated to the main page. (don't reply in here to this as it will be marked as spam.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea. If the WWE's Diva section was interested in actually wrestling this would be a great idea but I just can't see her fitting in with the current Diva's. I guess against a few diva's this would be good but I can only see two diva's who would be able to put on a good match with somebody that looks like this "cyborg" but if she does accept hopefully it will improve and I wont be fast forwarding the divas matches on raw.

Melina? Gail Kim? Beth Phoenix? Michelle McCool? They are all decent womens wrestlers, and even Kelly Kelly is trying hard to improve, as she is supposed to receive a major push in the next few months.

The problem isn't with the Womens Division talent, its how they are used. Infact, the talent in the WWE ring right now is probably just below the golden era of Trish, Lita, Molly, Victoria, Jazz, Ivory, etc. Whilst the additions of Awesome Kong and Santos (if she is signed) would be great, if they are not used (I expect Kong to be used a lot but Santos, not so much) than its worthless signings.

Well, apparently this will not happen. Strikeforce has a contract clause saying that a title holder can not work for anyone else. WWE says they have not had any contact with "Cyborg".

As an avid MMA fan, I can tell you first hand, this isn't "wiki" info. It's no big secret to anyone in the MMA community that Cyborg is leaps and bounds better than her competition. She's dismantled any opponent she's faced. Marloes Coenen, Cuddles, and Carano. The only worthy name she has not faced is Erin Toughill and Cyborg will run roughshod over her, too.

She's far too advanced of a striker for anyone in women's MMA to catch up to her and the ones that can hang with her in the striking department cannot make her weightclass.

There's a clear divide in Women's MMA. That's its current biggest problem.

Cyborg's English isn't so horrible that she couldn't do this and, honestly, they've given entire promos to people that speak NO English (at least on camera) see Great Khali.

She speaks with a bit of a rough accent, but I've had no trouble understanding Cristiane in her interviews.

That being said, she bring great athleticism. Far more than is the norm for Divas and she could probably beat the hell out of half the men currently signed to the promotion.

Would she be the next Diva sex symbol? No, most likely not, but she would provide an entirely new marketing base because of her enormous popularity as a respected Brazilian MMA artist and as a female athlete.

You have to remember, ideally, women's wrestling was created to allow women to showcase their athletic skills, too. It's just turned in to a sex contest. I, for one, wouldn't mind a true athlete in the Divas division. Lord knows there's enough "*********ion material," let's see someone in there who actually DOES beat ass for a living.

She's only 25.. But I guess she smokes a lot because this chick looks like she's in her 40s.

The fighting back ground will pay off. The WWE has really improved their Divas division over the past few years. Her and Kong will be awesome to watch.

In other news UFC has just bought out Strike Force. I know Dana White is against women fighting MMA so will that be the end of Cyborg in the mainstream eye? There isn't really another platform worthy enough to stay in the womens MMA game?

She should come to WWE.

Dana isn't as much against Women's MMA as much as he was against establishing a division within the UFC. It remains to be seen what Dana will do since he's now inherited a couple women's divisions. He could very well disband them citing different reasons, but I have a distinct feeling that he would receive an enormous amount of political and gender based fallout if he did so.

My guess is that he keeps the divisions and allows them to operate under the StrikeForce banner until these women either A.) get released due to losses B.) Feel they aren't being challenged (Cyborg) and quit or C.) Do what many female athletes do and start a family while they're still young.

I don't mean C to be sexist in any way. Realistically most athletes have a short shelf life if they aren't at the top of the heap. The average NFL player only lasts 3-4 years in the league. With women, however, there's the biological component that causes them to retire early so they can start a family while they're still young. Kim Clijsters did this HELLA early on when she was one of the top ranked tennis players. She's only 28 now and she had her baby back in February of 2008.

I don't think Dana's purchase of StrikeForce will have any impact on Cyborg's decision. I really think Cyborg's decision will rest on whether or not Zuffa can provide her with continuous worthy opponents or if Cyborg wants to go the GSP and Anderson Silva route and just keep beating people's asses for the next couple of years.

I'd like to see what Zuffa does, but if they can't find her anyone worthy of her skills and talents, I hope she does make the move to the WWE. At least it's a payday for a little, not to mention more exposure for her.
