At Night of Champions, Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler will put his title on the line against Kofi Kingston. If Ziggler gets disqualified or counted out, the bleach-blond Superstars high-flying adversary will soar away the new champion!
Dolph Ziggler captured the Intercontinental Title from Kingston, thanks in part to a distraction from SmackDowns Official Consultant Vickie Guerrero. Though a rematch was signed for SummerSlam, a brutal attack on both Superstars by The Nexus during the match prevented a clear winner from being declared.
In back-to-back rematches on SmackDown, Ziggler managed to hold on to his illustrious title by questionable means, thanks once again to his nefarious girlfriend Vickie. In their first showdown just when it appeared Kingston was gaining a decisive advantage Guerrero pushed the No. 1 contender off the top rope, drawing the disqualification. One week later when both Superstars were attempting to beat the referees count back into the ring Guerrero prevented Zigglers reentry. Since the title can only change hands by pinfall or submission, Zigglers title reign survived both of the strategic loses.
To prevent further controversy from occurring at Night of Champions, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long stipulated that if Ziggler gets counted out or disqualified, Kingston will reclaim the coveted title.
Will Teddy Longs actions finally bring a definitive Intercontinental Champion back to SmackDown? Find out at Night of Champions, Sunday, Sept. 19, at 8/7 CT, only on pay-per-view.
This match was announced this week on SmackDown. It is the Intercontinental title match of NoC and will hopefully be the match we we never got to see at SummerSlam. Interesting stipulation too, which is that if Ziggler loses in any form (DQ and Count Out) he will lose the title. Keep all discussion of this match in this thread please and thank-you.
