WWE announced earlier today that Rusev will defend the US title at MITB against Titus O'Neil.
Rusev is a guy that's probably going to be a consistent upper mid-card mainstay in WWE for the next 10 years as he's only 30 years old and has been wrestling since 2008 whereas Titus got into the business pretty late since he started back in '09 and is 39 years old.
Titus is a guy that I think most people view as a sentimental favorite in that he's someone who's worked hard for WWE, hasn't complained even if he's given an absolute piece of shit for a program and, let's face it, he got screwed over by Vince with this whole suspension deal. Vince reacting the way he did, which was an absolutely massive overreaction, is a prime example of why wrestlers in WWE behave backstage as though they're walking in the middle of a mine field. Whenever I think of the times Stone Cold Steve Austin says that guys need to stand up or step up as far as elevating their own careers, Titus' suspension is what springs to mind because Vince doesn't allow very many wrestlers the sort of creative input that he enjoyed back in the day or to just sort of playfully goof around.
Anyhow, back to topic, a US title run is probably the best that Titus is going to get in his career and I think a lot of other people sense it. As a result, I'm sure a good number wouldn't mind seeing him thrown this bone. I don't see it happening, however, as Vince sees a bigger upside in Rusev over the long term and he's probably right.
