WWE Extreme Rules 2014

muh i enjoyed it. dug the van daminator tease a lot. Sure, RVD is a spot monkey these days but he's always been very capable of being carried by an elite worker - Cesaro is very much in that category.

My thoughts on RVD's work - very underrated long term selling, very able to sell an injury consistently during a spotfest when he can be bothered. one dimension but effective short term selling. Bumps very well, especially DDTs. Unique and identifiable moveset.

Now the problem? His matches are so predictable. Everything is the same. the setups are similar, the ordering is similar. This is why RVD needs to be carried - someone like Cesaro/Benoit/Jericho will put the effort into more subtle setups, keeping RVD matches fresh. Tons of cool stuff in that - like the delay spinning heel kick reversed into a german, a fresher set up to the 540 apron legdrop, a more realistic rolling thunder spot.

That's my two cents. I think he has a role to play in WWE and I've always been a fan, but he very much needs someone that gives a f about a match to do anything other than a stereotypical Van Dam performance.

Edit: to this date, it is REMARKABLE how little RVD botches. Like, he's insanely consistent

That was a spot I can't say I've ever seen. Not sure how it is any more effective than keeping the ring apron in place, but it was new.

Good little match.

Anyone else think they should have put him in the tag division to start? Maybe him, Lana and Del Rio for a nice little combo against the Rhodes Brothers?

He doesn't need to be a monster heel. All that's going to happen is he's going to be fed to a top face. It's not going to benefit him, or the face in question. It's entirely counter-productive.

Oh I know, he'll eventually be feed to Cena or Bryan and that's it for him. But, remember Andre. He was a monster and entertained the people for years, so it could work for Rusev for the short-term which is right now.

interesting booking there. usually a handicap match for a monster heel is just a showcase. Here, despite Truth getting instantly isolated he had a long control segment and actually comes out of that with a bunch of credibility despite being effectively an enhancement talent now. I kinda dig it. Doesn't harm Rusev at all and I still think Truth has some legs left in his career, despite getting on a bit. desperately needs a heel turn
