WWE Extreme Rules 2012: Sheamus (c) vs Daniel Bryan (2 out of 3 falls) [WHC]

#SAWFT

Pre-Show Stalwart
At Extreme Rules, World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus will attempt to defend his title against Daniel Bryan in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match. Will The Celtic Warrior once again reign supreme over his WrestleMania foe and deprive Bryan of the title?

Coming off his 18-second loss to The Great White at WrestleMania, Daniel Bryan is contractually guaranteed a rematch. Bryan is a submission specialist who has spent more than a decade plying his trade around the world. His selection of a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match may very well play directly into this skill set. Sheamus, known across the WWE Universe as an imposing and powerful competitor, generally relies on a strength game inside the squared circle, utilizing power moves to put his opponents away. Bryan is the polar opposite, a man with countless submission holds who chips away at opponents throughout the course of a match.

In any event, the clashing of styles will be interesting, to say the least, and if Sheamus plans to walk out of Extreme Rules with the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist, he may have to beat Daniel Bryan at his own game.

Luckily for The Great White, he is no stranger to his challenger. Their showdown at the extreme pay-per-view will only add to a years-long rivalry that began when The Celtic Warrior overcame Bryan to claim the United States Championship in 2011. After his win at the 25th Anniversary of the Royal Rumble in January 2012, The Great White once again had his eyes set squarely on Bryan, this time with another title in mind.

Sheamus followed through with a record-breaking victory on The Grandest Stage of Them All, flattening Bryan with a devastating Brogue Kick then pinning the champion in just 18 seconds to claim his first-ever World Heavyweight Championship. After what must have been the fastest 18 seconds of his life, Daniel Bryan found himself lying on the mat as the capacity WrestleMania crowd cheered on the new champion.

On a special edition of "Piper’s Pit" — part of SuperSmackDown on April 10 — Bryan made an appearance to announce his intentions for the 2-out-of-3 Falls rematch against The Great White at Extreme Rules. He now has an opportunity to make up for everything that was lost in those 18 seconds on The Grandest Stage of Them All. While Bryan blamed his WrestleMania defeat on then-girlfriend AJ, the 2-out-of-3 Falls stipulation ensures that there will be no repeat performance, as the victor of the match will undoubtedly have to earn a pair of pinfalls or submissions.

Will Daniel Bryan reclaim his illustrious title? Can Sheamus drop the submission specialist twice in the same night? For that matter, can the WWE Universe expect a long match typically associated with such a stipulation, or can The Great White repeat his WrestleMania feat and retain his title in under a minute?'

Shamus vs Daniel Bryan will hopefully be a great match after their short match at Wrestlemania. What will the three falls be? Who will win?

It's a good thing they went with Bryan-Sheamus for this show, because it's fucking CHICAGO! The last pay-per-view they were treated to was Money in the Bank, the overall best pay-per-view of 2011 in my books that was headlined by a historical moment that I wish WWE would play up more. Seriously, it felt like one of those special, once-in-a-lifetime moments, yet WWE spent more time playing up the significance of Trips-Undertaker than they did that epic encounter. At least it felt that way to me.

What was my point? Oh right, they're going to eat up anything Daniel Bryan and CM Punk (especially Punk) touch. I'm so excited for this pay-per-view, in a big way because of how awesome the crowd will be. Plus Sheamus-Bryan could be a damn good match. I thought their brief encounter one of the SmackDowns after the Royal Rumble showed flashes of brilliant chemistry between these two men. I think Bryan could be getting a fall over Sheamus because of Sheamus beating up on him too much since that's how Bryan actually won that SmackDown match and I think it works very well for both their characters. I remember thinking that Bryan looked like a brilliantly heely shithead in that match. His little grin was sick.

Oh God, it's Chicago innit? They're gonna be screaming 'Yes' from the rafters. Good lads.

Anyway, is this WWE's way of compensating for their quickie at Mania? Should be the longest match on the card (depending on Brock's shape)? But it's a good bet. Bryan needs to pin Sheamus once I feel for this feud to ignite. I'd be happy if Bryan gets the belt right back and then calling Sheamus's win a 'fluke' forever.

Sheamus -1st pin

D-Bry - 2nd & 3rd pin

Initially excited at the prospect of this match and its stipulation. Then it occured to me that WWE now has ample opportunity to have another 18 second fall in favour of Sheamus. It'd prove the Mania match wasn't a fluke while Bryan will be able to save face over the course of the other two falls.

Not terribly extreme, is it? But who really gives a shit, it's the right match for these two given their respective styles and the WreslteMania match. I would expect this to last three falls, unless they really intend to ride this "squash Bryan" thing all the way, which may not be the worst idea given the merchandise sales and fan interest they're generating. Destroying him in two falls might be within the realm of possibility. Still, I kind of doubt that will occur and get the feeling that by and large the WrestleMania short match was a function of perceived time constraints and that now that we're working with a B-PPV that nobody gives a shit about they'll be able to work for 15-20 minutes and fill up time on the undercard. It would be the height of madness to expect Bryan to actually win here. I would presume Sheamus will take the first fall in relatively short fashion, though not 18 seconds. This would probably lead to Bryan winning the second fall via some kind of Alberto del Rio interference since that's obviously the feud they're really interested in. Sheamus kills del Rio and eventually takes the final feud.

I suppose I could see Bryan winning the title by Alberto interference, but that would probably necessitate Bryan winning a fall by himself. I wonder how that might rule in terms of disqualifications on the non-decisive fall? That is to say, while normally a title cannot change hands via DQ or countout, suppose Sheamus wins the first fall but is disqualified on the second. If Bryan wins the second fall by pinfall or submisison, can he win the title? Given the way they've been treating Sheamus of late it seems possible he could take out a ref or engage in otherwise illegal activity during the match. Perhaps an interesting angle to keep an eye on.

A safe betting man's money is on Sheamus, methinks.

I am looking forward to this match alot. Love the two out if three falls it has many possible outcomes.
1. We could have Sheamus come out and squash Daniel Bryan twice which I'm my opinion would really hurt Bryan unless you have AJ make an apperence and distract Bryan once again which could work out good because it would give Bryan the opportunity to yell at her again and gain some more heat and give a Diva a good story line.

2. Involves AJ again but comes down and cost Sheamus the last fall when it is tied at 1-1. Turning AJ and pairing her up with Bryan could make them the new power couple.

3. You have Bryan win the first fall and then go on to loose 2-1. Then he comes out on the next raw or smackdown and say that he got the first pin and should be champion.earing to a iorn man match at the next PPV where they finish there fued.

I would like anyone of those three things to happen would be happy.

Not only do i think That sheamus will win, but i think that to combat bryans submission skills i think we will see the debut of a sheamus brand submission. Because we all know that these days a main stay wrestler hasnt made it till they give him a submission finisher. Personally i think that they should "forget" about his finisher called the celtic cross and name his sub finish that and have it be a variation of the crossface.

i really like the idea of d-bry winning the first fall and losing the next two. i think its the best way to still make both look good. of course i would rather Daniel Bryan won two falls in a row either YES

I think it would be cool to have Sheamus enter with AJ by his side, Bryan get distracted by her again and shouting at her telling her to go away and then Bang! Brogue kick and pin. Same as Mania. Then have Bryan get the second fall. But I don't know about the final outcome.

I'm hopeful about this match. As Y2 Jake mentioned, however, I'm worried that they might go ahead and give Sheamus another 18 second, or less, fall over Bryan to show it wasn't some sort of fluke as Bryan proclaimed. Here's hoping it doesn't come down to that.

WWE doesn't do these matches very often and I'm looking forward to it. I don't look for Bryan to win the title from Sheamus here. However, at the same time, WWE has got to be pleased at Bryan's new level of popularity. He's becoming a bigger star now than he was when he was champ, which ultimately cements in my mind that his reign as WHC was a very good one. Bryan's new shirt is already sold out and is on back order, so he's now starting to become a major player for the WWE in terms of merchendise as CM Punk before him. If Bryan goes on making WWE more money and continues to get over as much as he is, then it's possible that WWE could put the title back on Bryan at ER. It wouldn't bother me, quite honestly, as I thought Bryan's first reign was a lot of fun. I like Sheamus but, in my eyes, he's much better as a heel.

Ultimately, I see this match as being something of a shot at redemption for Bryan. Sheamus has, overall, certainly gotten the best of him thus far and this is a chance for WWE to portray Bryan as someone on the same level. After all, look at his first two matches with CM Punk. They were clinics and he gave Punk all he wanted. I'd love to see them do the same thing at ER.

There's almost a certainty that each guy will win a fall each and I'm expecting Del Rio to stick his nose into things. Del Rio has a title shot coming up as well and, unlike TNA in recent weeks, WWE doesn't typically do heel vs. heel feuds as there's no clear wrestler to root for. Del Rio could provide some sort of distraction, maybe not blatant interference but just enough so that Sheamus is able to score the win over Bryan in the final fall. Sheamus retains but Bryan is protected in the loss. Del Rio is next in line, of course, so maybe Bryan comes in and we have a three way feud over the title.

I just don't see the point in this match, the stipulation is bad. why not make it proper extreme rules & have 3 stages of hell? 2 out of 3 falls is just lame.

Sheamus brogue kicks Daniel Bryan and takes the first fall in 10 seconds and then sets up for another brogue kick when Daniel Bryan gets up as they go into the second round. Boom, another brogue kick at 8 seconds and pin fall and Sheamus wins. Why do I fear that this is way too possible? I smell the past. Remember when Orlando Jordan kept losing to Chris Benoit in a few seconds over and over again? What bothers me most about all of this is that Daniel Bryan can't seem to beat Sheamus cleanly, ever. He is Sheamus' official chew toy and Sheamus is his career curse.

I think we might see the opposite, with Bryan getting a quick fall over Sheamus... That would "redress" the balance of the Mania match and make the rest of the match more interesting. I can actually see Del Rio causing Seamus to get DQ'd setting up a title vacated situation where they can use Bryan, Orton, Del Rio and Seamus over the summer...

this should be a damn good match if given enough time im sure both men will get 1 fall bringing it to a 3rd fall without a doubt in my mind sheamus is gonna retain the title here but i see the crowd behind daniel bryan 100% about the only thing is this match im wondering is if aj lee is gonna interfear at all?

I am joined today by a ******ed wrestling fan, ******ed wrestling fan, what do you think of the Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus 2-out-of-3 falls match at the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view event for the World Heavyweight Championship?

"heya dragon sags i think tha sheamus wil beat daniel bryn for the frst fall in undr 18 sconds lik he did at wrestlsmanias caus i knw wats tha wwe's r thinkins... an den sheams will kick bryn agan an get hs second fall to add tha match up to 36 scnds haha... im rel smart am nt i? haha"

No ******ed wrestling fan, you do indeed define your name. To begin you can't spell worth a shit and you ought to sue your national and secondary; high school, for the Americans, for the way in-which they thought you English. That or you should be receiving payments for your disabilities. Run along now and say something else stupid like Randy Orton should retire or some crap like that.

To those of you who are thinking WWE are going to do what ******ed wrestling fan described, no, that isn't what they are going to do, it wouldn't make sense because without AJ there this time to cause Bryan to lose focus he'll be completely focused on the match and Sheamus. What will actually happen is, Sheamus and Danielson are going to get in the ring at Extreme Rules and will have a normal amount of time allocated to them, because if you paid attention to the reports after Mania, WWE tried to break the record for Wrestlemania, breaking an Extreme Rules record would make no sense. Plus pre-Wrestlemania, the match was poorly built in the space of a week, it didn't deserve much time, now however it truly does.

Match will end up being good, I have some hope in Bryan regaining the World Heavyweight Championship, and that is only based off the small hope I have that WWE has seen Bryan holds enough potential to hold the belt for a longer time period based off the reaction post-Wrestlemania. Realistically I see Sheamus retaining the belt and feuding with either Del Rio or Del Rio and Bryan. However, I have standard expectations for the match.

Once again these two have been involved in a lackluster build. There is no reason for Sheamus wanting to have a match with Bryan. Bryan lost the title, was humiliated at WM28 etc., but Sheamus said "I'll kick your teeth down your throat, fella" and he did just that. Why would he want to have a match with Bryan again? In case of Punk-Y2J, Punk wants to have a match with Y2J because of all the CM Drunk stuff. AJ has more reason to want a match with Bryan that Sheamus.

That being said, this should be a good match. I expect it to be a good 20-25 minutes match and could quite possibly be the longest match of the night. I think that Sheamus will win 2-1.

Maybe Bryan was the champion and he has a rematch clause?Just maybe i am not sure..

As for the lackluster build, and i am not saying that as a Danielson fan,is propably the way that creative projects Sheamus. He has not done anything since Wrestlemania. The only things that he has been handed to do is to say jokes about DB's vegan style and chasing him after matches.

I hope at Extreme rules they will give them the time to have a good wrestling match. The winner of course will be Sheamus.

This will likely be good. It is the match we SHOULD have gotten at Wrestlemania. Sheamus only JUST got the belt so it would be a bad decision to take the title off of him so soon, therefore I see him retaining. Bryan is gaining popularity, although a loss here will not hurt him if he gets an actual match unlike Wrestlemania and is booked to look like a strong contender. Sheamus wins and moves on to his next contender while Bryan moves into a filler feud after this.

DAGGER'S PREDICTION
Sheamus will retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sheamus and Daniel Bryan have a nice match at Extreme Rules, as the WrestleMania match was a bit of a letdown. Sheamus makes sense as champion here, since he was on an absolute tear for a few months before winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Daniel Bryan, on the other hand, had been a solid champion, but became somewhat of an overnight sensation at WrestleMania. Both men would make great champions, and I can honestly see both men walking out as champion, in the right situation. The two out of three falls stipulation only adds to the intrigue of the match.

My gut tells me that Sheamus will pull out the win and retain. By retaining here, Sheamus would be able to move away from Daniel Bryan and slot nicely into a program with Alberto Del Rio, his presumed next challenger. I don't think he'd win quite as easily as he did the first time -- he'd probably lose a fall, in all honesty. That being said, I can't see Alberto Del Rio not being involved in some capacity. If he were to show up, it would make sense to see Daniel Bryan walk out as champion -- otherwise, the interference would be pointless. I'm torn in that aspect, as the WWE definitely wouldn't hesitate to go with the hotter man (Bryan), but they seem to be big in Sheamus too.

In the end, I see Sheamus pulling it out in the third fall, only to be attacked by Alberto Del Rio. It wouldn't have as much of an affect as an interference in the match itself, but it would be an easy way to smoothly continue with a Sheamus/Del Rio feud, leaving Bryan free to feud with someone else (Orton, possibly?). Should be a fun match.

Sheamus is my pick for this one, I can definitely see AJ costing Sheamus 1 of the falls though.I think she's about to turn heel in hopes of getting back Bryan especially after that segment with her Slapping Kaitlyn backstage after bashing Daniel Bryan.

Here's my more in depth prediction though for the match

Pretty awesome match. Great in ring storytelling and great selling by Sheamus. Yea yea, he used his arm, but he sold it immediately after. It's not like he used it then forgot about it. Shows that he's willing to take pain to dish it out, great babyface move. Daniel Bryan looked like a master tactician out there. Just picked Sheamus apart.

Imagine if this was the match they had at WM.

This is all they need to create a strong champion, and keep the previous champion also strong. Both men looked incredible coming out of the match.

Definitely a MOTY contender so far, along with Bryan vs. Punk at SD earlier in the year.

It irks me how badly they screwed over Sheamus at WM and didn't notice,. Not just Bryan, but Sheamus, as his face push as World champ has been spoiled by his terrible WM victory. He got booed to hell at the PPV, and it was his first PPV as champ.

Even Cena went for a long while as champ before the boos first started in late 2005. People are so used to Super Cena that they can tell a boring Super face run from the off now, and boo accordingly. They need to change up Sheamus' dull Cena-lite face character, he is a great big man wrestler and deserves better.

What are you babbling about? DB getting squashed at Mania got him more over than ever. If that didn't happen, I really doubt he'd be this over, it kickstarted this new level of overness.

As for Sheamus, they aren't booing him because he's "superCena part 2" the fans that boo him are on Daniel Bryan's side. Pretty simple. The crowd isn't uniform. A guy can do the same exact thing, to some he's a heel, to some he's a face.

Both Sheamus and DB are more over now because of Mania.
