Of course I want to see it developed. I am a fan of wrestling and I want to see a quality show. Having watched feds like SHIMMER I have seen how good women's wrestling can be, the early days of TNA's knockouts were equally good, Hell Trish and Lita were good too. The problem here is why should we care about the Divas when we watch them? What all my previous examples have that the current crop of divas doesn't is a.) they were given time to tell a story in the ring to do basic things like selling and trying to build the heel as a legit threat to the babyface. Natty and Beth should not be running off with their tails between their legs and getting punked out every time Kelly Kelly shows up. If a heel is not a credible obstacle to the face that pretty much kills the angle. Where's the drama? It' be like if instead of the Pittsburgh Steelers The Green Bay Packers beat a peewee league team or the Pittsburgh Steelers just walked out in the middle of the game.
And of course B.) The examples I gave they give these girls characters just like the men. Currently all we have is blonde 1, blonde 2, blonde 3, black one, asian one, and two girls who look alike. Are we supposed to be impressed just because Kelly Kelly is in Maxim? Big deal lots of divas have done porn. That is hardly an accomplishment anymore. Give us characters. I mean what are their motivations, what kind of people are they? what's their story?
Then comes the big problem, the main reason we the fans don't care is we're not given a reason to care or rather we're basically told not to care. Why should we care when it's perfectly obvious the ones booking the show don't care? Every divas match just seems like at best 1 minute fap material for the men and lesbians and time for a bathroom break for the women and gay guys. Like it's a chore that must be gotten out of the way to get to something more important. We have Michael Cole taking a big wet dump over it, talking about anything but the match at hand, and taking naps. This is breaking the number one rule of being a sports journalist "Never pan what you're covering." Then you have Jerry Lawler breaking into his overplayed horndog routine which just buttresses the image that it is a bathroom break for the gay guys and women and fap material for the guys and lesbians.
Then we have the divas themselves. It's no big secret some of them are just lingirie models on the make for a quick buck and just look at wrestling as a stepping stone to something else. Meanwhile there are plenty of girls toiling away on the indy scene just dying for their chance at the big time but won't because as long as WWE wants to use the women's matches for PG porno they'll never be accepted because they're too fat, too skinny, don't look right, etc.
So with all this why should we the fans care? And no this isn't being IWC, nostalgic for the good ol' days, an indy fanboy, a smartmark or whatever. It's knowing the basic elements of telling a story.
