WWE Breaking Point - Where'd it go?

Stemming from LSN80's thread about oversaturating the market with gimmick type matches, which is a great place to release your frustrations if you're like me and you think the WWE has been using too many gimmick matches of the same type too often and dislike general gimmick theme PPVs, go there!

Last year the WWE introduced a new Pay-Per-View that I thought was a brilliant idea and concept. The PPV was called Breaking Point. I loved the name, I loved the promo commercial for it... which you can see here.

This was a submissions theme PPV, but it wasn't just submissions matches, there was an I quit match, and a submissions style falls count anywhere match. The matches as I remember them were actually really good and entertaining and I remember enjoying the PPV alot.

I feel like a submissions style PPV is generally more challenging and personal then these other PPVs we have because if superstars have to end matches via submission, its a real testament to their skills, stamina, and how innovative they can be, especially superstars who don't have submissions maneuvers. I don't expect every superstar to come out of Breaking Point with a new submissions finisher like John Cena did when he began to utilize the STF after a submissions match.

This PPV in my opinion is also very versatile. This is how I see the booking for this PPV.

I Quit Match
Last Man Standing Match
Submissions Count Anywhere Match
2 Normal Submissions Match
Stretcher Match [the one with the ambulance doors and not the line]\

So my questions are, do you guys remember Breaking Point or was it easily forgotten?

Does the concept appeal to you? Why?

Which PPV would you remove from the line up now to replace with Breaking Point?

Personally if it is never brought I will be fine
The problem is that this is not the 80s-90s where everyone had a submission
I mean you had the Harts, Sting, Flair and many others now who do you have Looking at the top in order to do it you had to have guys creat some crappy new submission move out of knowhere

I mean do you recall guys like Show and Orton coming up with lame submission moves just for the PPV

I mean looking at the roster nly 3 guys in submission matches reguarly used submission moves before the PPV

Cena with STFU and Undertaker with Dragon's Gate (Punk used his Anaconda Vice on the indy's but not in the WWE)

And this year I mean look at guys like Edge, Orton, Miz, Sheamus, HHH and Rey who have nothing and would either steal someone else's (like HHH using the figure 4) or come up with something lame. Dont make a PPV based around soemthing that you just dont have enough of (Like an ECW PPV when there were not even enough guys on the roster for one)

Breaking point was a great concept and from what I heard it worked (didn't get it at the time due to money) but I would've loved to see it again...especially with the renewed interest since my girlfriend and our friends are fans of WWE.

I was looking forward to a match with someone vs Bryan in a submission match...possibly just for the PPV or set up a short feud I would've liked to have seen him go against CM Punk. Unfortunately the WWE doesn't have many stars with submission moves (wasn't that part of why Cena started doing the STF?). With the exception of Natalya, neither of the Hart Dynasty have done the sharpshooter. Other than her, Bryan and Punk I cant really think of any other superstar with ANY submission moves.

I barely remember it. I wish it would replace Bragging Rights though. Two straight team-based PPV's sucks. Neither BR or Survivor Series is any good. I feel that the PPV would work best if every year you had HHH in a last man standing match. The man is a beast in last man standing matches.

To be quite honest, I'd like to go back to any ppv format that involved some mid-card talent and more than five or six matches. Back in 1999-2001, it seemed like each ppv had 2 "eh" matches 4 matches I looked forward to and 1 or 2 huge matches. Now, if a PPV has one really good match, it gets all the praise in the world. I guess when you have a lack of competition, product falls apart, but I am on a rant now...

I don't think it really clicked at THAT time due to the styles of wrestling that the current roster they had at the moment. But in all honesty, I think this would be a great thing to think about possibly bringing back, even if just for one time only again. I know its something we say to try, and its easier said than done. As someone before me said, look at the current list of people that are in the roster, Daniel Bryan, Alberto DelRio, Natalya, all whom use submissions for finishers. Its the saying "What was once old is now new again." Even some of the current roster, Big Show, Cena are no strangers to some submission finishers, and even McCool (the Brazilian heel hook) Undertaker, CM Punk. They are vets when it comes to putting the clamps on people. I know some people weren't fans the first time around. But, given the right opportunities, and with this new set of storylines floating around, with Nexus, and Kane, etc, it almost could be worth a shot. Heck, I even have the perfect PPV theme, for grins and giggles, Breaking Benjamin's "I Will Not Bow." If you listened to the lyrics carefully its "I will not bow, I will not break..." kinda befitting a PPV dedicated breaking someone into submission. But anywho, that's my two cents on this topic.

I agree that I would rather see Breaking Point than Bragging Rights....Cena and Orton had a classic match at that PPV....it would be nice since alot of people use submissions....John Cena and the STF....CM Punk and the vice....Daniel Bryan has many submission moves....Natalya with the sharpshooter....Undertaker and the Hells Gate....Jericho with the Walls if he ever comes back....Masterlock....Del Rio and the armbar....Swagger and the ankle lock...Ziggler and the sleeper hold...thats alot of submissions lol

The thing is!! You don't want to see too many technical matches on 1 card! Breaking Point was a failure, enough said, compared to others such as Hell in a Cell, Bragging Rights and TLC.. It didn't do all that well.. I will remember it, because there was only one Breaking Point ppv and well I enjoyed the tag team submission match!

You may be right, too many technical matches can indeed be boring, but the idea or theme of a breaking point doesn't have to convey JUST submissions matches.

The tag team submissions count anywhere was really good. The I quit match was also really good.

So this card can comprise of, Submissions Count Anywhere, Last Man Standing, I Quit, Submissions, basically any type of match that screams stamina-based, not out maneuvering your opponent.

It may be a tad bit more technical, but it can still be entertaining.
