André the Giant
Wrld-andre01-1.jpg

The Most Legendary Big Man in wrestling History. He is most well known for his legendary match against Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 3. He has held titles all over the World including Australia, Canada and Japan. He also has the dubious honor of being the Shortest reigning WWE Champion in history due to the fact that he handed the title over to Ted Dibiase seconds after he won it from Hulk Hogan. He also has the honor of being the first person ever to be inductef into the WWE HoF back in 1993.

Most rembered as 1/2 half of Money INC with Ted Dibiase he joined the WWE as a part of The US Express with Barry Windham. Rotunda & Windham won the Tag Titles 2 times and there most notable feud was with Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik whom they lost the titles to at the first Wrestlemainia. he then wrestled for the NWA for a short period of time where he won the NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship. Shortly there after he rejoined the WWE and won the Tag Team titles 3 more times with Ted Dibiase as a part of Money INC. Rotunda is the only teg team wreslter to beat The LoD twice for the titles.

Earlier I said Bruno vs. Johnson was this biggest squash. This is. Don't get me wrong, Rotunda is great. One of the best in the ring I've seen in my years as a fan. He's as good on the mat as anyone. But you can't outwrestle a tree. Andre is just so much bigger. his size and power and overall skill is just too much for Irwin. Irwin and Tito have the same problems: Great opponents. Shame that they're not one on one. That would be a classic.

Ok, so the term 'squash' has now been redefined.

I'm not going to post 'Andre wins because...', but really...

IRS was a fun character, but he was more of a backup to the Million Dollar Man. IRS won't bribe Andre, just piss him off. That isn't what he needs to do.

As far as wrestling skills, Rotunda is really nice in the ring. He has skills that have won him gold, and he has received his fair share of heat in the past. However, he never hit the main event scene enough for me to favor him against most other guys in this tournament, least of all Andre.

Andre, on the other hand, was a guy known in and out of the wrestling world. He didn't seek main event spotlight, the spotlight saught him. He and Hogan gave us moments to never forget. The matches actually lacked in spots, but no one will ever care, as the moments will live forever.

In a confrontation, I don't see Andre losing. He'd physically dominate the matchup and win within moments. No disrespect to IRS, but he doesn't have what it takes here.

Andre wins this one.

This is one of those awkward ones where, as good as Mike Rotunda actually was, actually beating Andre in the ring was well nigh impossible unless you managed to have the power to take him down. I don't think Mike has that power, and this again is like the Michael Hayes match, featuring a tag specialist against a giant in the single's environment, and for IRS, it's just not happening against Andre

Not even remotely close. While I absolutely LOVE the character of IRS, and loved his ring work and phsycology, he doesnt even come CLOSE to one of the, if not THE (watch his early stuff) big man of all time. Andre was part of some of the most prolific moments in wrestling history, wether it be Slamming Big John Studd, Jobbing to Demolition for the tag titles, breaking up Hulk Hogans first WWE title reighn, or doing the biggest most important job of all time. Andre by miles. RIP big guy.

While IRS is one of my favorites in no way does he compare to Andre. Andre The Giant was constantly in the Main Event Scene fighting Hulk Hogan and he helped bring wrestling into the llimelight just due to his size. And who can forget 'The Slam Heard 'Round the World'? Hogan body slamming Andre to the mat at Wrestlemania 3 is a moment that every wrestling fan no matter how old you are or how long you've been watching knows about.

IRS was a great character. Nice act, great pairing with DiBiase, but that's all he was. He was forgettable as a "regular" wrestler, Mike Rotunda. The character defined the man, that's pretty much it.

Andre is possibly the biggest star of the 70's and early 80's, its actually quite tough to define how great Andre was. A man that won one world title in a controversial match leaves a lot to be determined about his status as a legend.

Andre the Giant is a incredibly important figure in WWE history. He carried the company on his back for many years and when his time was up he passed the torch to Hulk Hogan. Andre was also one of the few wrestlers who is known in mainsteam media. He is one of the true legends of the buisness and is probably the greatest big man of all time. If I.R.S beats Andre it will be a atrosity.

Take nothing away from Mike here, who was a solid wrestler both in and out of tag teams, had an inventive character and great mic work. He was pretty good, and had the unfortunate luck to be seeded against Andre.

Andre would smash him. Rip him apart, eat him even. You could fit fully two of him in Andre and probably have room to stuff Hornswoggle. I'm not saying Andre can't be beaten, clearly Hogan could and several others, but IRS couldn't. He was a solid wrestler all around, but not nearly good enough to bring down the great Big Man in wrestling history.

What would Mike even do? The Stock Market Crash would be impossible. A Flying Clothesline does nothing to this brute.

Andre would destroy IRS in a heartbeat.

Andre the Giant is an Icon. He is known by all and even to non-wrestling fans. He has had so many iconic moments and was one of the top stars that it's not even close. IRS was a really good character, and him and Dibiase were great together but his "legend" status is nowhere near the level as Andre.

This one for me is quite easy. Andre was part of what is quite possibly the greatest moment in wrestling ever. When Hogan slammed him I still remember sitting on the couch and screaming in excitement. So for me this one was fairly easy considering i cannot think of any real contributions IRS made to wrestling.

Andre the Giant wins this one without really having to think about it. He was mainstream before that was the goal of pro wrestling. Hogan has done his shitty movies based around him, Andre was in a movie that I still enjoy in "The Princess Bride", But not only that Andre could wrestle, while this DVD may not be still in production it is worth watching to see how he was in the late 70s and early 80s.

Taking nothing away from IRS but he has no chance since Andre took on multiple wrestlers and won in a convincing way.

Results: Another sweep, 34-0 for Andre. He goes on to face Austin in Round 2.

My thoughts: A lot of these first round match up have been to weed out the people that just aren't that good. That's not the case here as Mike Rotunda was a very good Tag and Singles Wreslter. Andre however was an ICON, everyone knows who he is even if they started watching wrestling after he passed. His WWE title reign while the chortest in History was deserved because of what he has done for this business. Hulk Hogan may have made Wrestling in America what it is today but he had help and that help came fro mthe larger than life André the Giant
