WWE Battleground: WWE Intercontinental Championship - Ryback (c) VS Big Show VS Miz

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
WWE.com officially announced earlier today that Ryback will defend the Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat match against Big Show and Miz at Battleground.

I've no real interest in this match and I'm hoping that they move Ryback onto some other program after this. Hardly anyone's interested in either Big Show or Miz at this point in time and I see even less interest if either of them won the title.

I know Ryback will retain the championship, but I'm really hoping The Miz pulls out the win. Some guys just work better when they're a champion, and The Miz is one of them. My hope would be that Miz wins the title again, then goes back to his better 2012-2013 look, and brings back the AWESOME bubble for his entrance during PPV title matches.

The first thing that came up to my mind when I heard about this Match card is, it probably should've happened at Money in the Bank PPV. Many were skeptical that the Match between Ryback and Big Show was going to be slow paced and boring but it was otherwise. But still the addition of The Miz in that feud would've made things more interesting.

I'm really looking forward to this match. A minion battling between two giants. I still won't complain about their match at MITB because they didn't have much time to buildup the feud as that only had two weeks after the Elimination Chamber. But now they've a lot more time and lets hope they use it well for the buildup.

Cheers!!

I presume this match is simply a vehicle to make Ryback look more powerful as he retains the IC title.

While it's possible Miz could take it since we never know when WWE management has decided to do something special with him, but I would think it's Ryback they're looking to build, not Miz.....and certainly not Big Show.

I don't really see the difference between the Ryback whose push fizzled a couple years ago and the one before us now, but I think this time they really plan to go with him.....with the goal either to advance him to main event status or at least to establish him as the elite of the midcard.

Whatever, y'know?

I wish they would have given Ryback some other matches and defenses before putting him a program with The Big Show. For all he's done, Big Show is now being used to legitimize people. They've turned him into the World's Largest Jobber. The least they could have done is built him back up to make this match mean something. It's a forgone conclusion that Ryback will retain and make Show look worse than he already does. Miz is just fodder for this whole deal.

Will probably be better than people expect. I think it'll be lively. It's just that it's hard to get excited about any match involving Big Show or Miz.

Wonder if Ryback can Shell Shock Show. That'd be a spectacle.

Other way around for me. I can easily get excited for a match involving Big Show or Miz. But Ryback? He's a channel-changer.

It's just that we're already familiar with both men; we've seen what they're capable of and nothing has changed enough to necessitate their building either man up.

This isn't Ryback's first rodeo; he's been pushed as a good guy before, and the ultimate cancellization of that push makes me wonder why they think he'll succeed this time.

Meanwhile, Show doesn't need to be built up, either. He's been around for so long that the body of work he's done speaks for himself; even after he's been away for months at a time, we know what we're getting when he shows up......the only question is whether he'll return as a face or heel.

For better or worse, the company is trying it again with Ryback. Big Show is a logical steppingstone on the path.

He's already done it before. Only once or twice though. Instead of breaking it out at a PPV match though, they did it on some random Raw.

As for the match, it's most likely Ryback's to win. It'd be a pretty dumb swerve for anyone else to win. I agree with Jake that Ryback should Shell Shock Big Show for the pin too.

ryback has to retain. itd be pointless to give it to show, although the wwe loves giving miz the IC title, so he could possibly steal one leading to a rematch v ryback at summerslam(i hope not)

It wouldn't surprise me if Miz wins somehow but Ryback deserves the win. It's been a while since there's been a dominant face IC champion.

Having a triple threat for his first proper title defence was maybe not a great move, but hopefully this should be a fun enough match - I've seen enough Raw build-up for this by now though. Hope Ryback's next feud can be a bit more dynamic, as he deserves to be really over (as does the IC belt)

Apparently the match is cancelled because Ryback suffered a serious injury on RAW. This wasn't a match I was eager to see, but that really sucks if it's true. I'm not sure if this is some sort of angle or if it's real.

Yea I just read on the main page Ryback will be out for a short time because he is being treated for a staph infection in his knee. It happened on Tuesday after RAW and he'll be hospitalized for a few days, but he won't be able to compete on Sunday.

So I guess this match is now off the card, and it's yet to be determined what will happen to Miz and Big Show.

According to Tweets sent by Ryback, he's on strong antibiotics and they took some 90 cc of fluid out of his right knee and he'll be kept in the hospital under observation for the next several days. This match will probably be cancelled altogether, but it doesn't look like Ryback will be out of action for very long. Since this particular match won't be happening at the ppv, I think they should just have the match on Raw whenever Ryback's cleared to wrestle so he can get past them and move onto someone else.
