WWE Battleground: Rollins & Reigns VS Cody Rhodes & Goldust

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
As expected, this match was made official for the Battleground ppv last night. If Cody & Goldust beat Rollins & Reigns, they'll both get their "jobs" back. If they lose, then Dusty Rhodes himself will be "fired" as well. In the current storyline, Dusty Rhodes has already been replaced at the GM of NXT by Triple H and JBL put in his place. However, Dusty is still working to help train talent in the WWE Performance Center.

There was talk earlier this month of having a six man tag match with Dusy & his sons taking on The Shield, but they obviously didn't go through with it. As cool as it would have been to see Dusty get in there one more time, him not being an active participant is probably for the best. The legendary son of a plumber is almost 68 years old and I find it hard to believe that he's not a candidate for a heart attack waiting to happen. He will be in his sons' corner at Battleground and, of course, Dean Ambrose will be in the corner of his teammates.

I think the Rhodes boys will come out with a win here, it might not necessarily be 100% clean or without some degree of "controversy", but I think they'll win and give the fans a strong feel good moment. The fans will probably get at least that since I see Punk losing to Ryback, RVD getting screwed over in his match and the WWE Championship remaining vacant.

Nah, The Shield win. I don't see hwta the benefits are from having the Rhodes' win. Sure, it's a feel good scenario. But Goldust ins't returning to WWE TV full time and neither is Dusty. It creates more drama if they lose because Cody turns on them. That means Cody get's his job back, is aligned with Triple H's new heel friends, get's the rub in the process and the other Rhodes' kin can work backstage until they're needed for nostalgia pops in a few months time.

It's an interesting set-up, with the key figure being Cody Rhodes. If his team loses, he doesn't get his job back, right? Obviously, they've got to find some way to get him a victory, even if it doesn't happen in this PPV and they wind up carrying the program over to the next one.

I don't know if WWE has any plans to re-hire Dustin Runnels, although I wish they would. Also, Dusty has no real stake in the outcome of this match. He'll get his job as GM of NxT back, or he'll move onto another position in the company, or he'll retire for real.....he doesn't need a wrestling match to determine what becomes of him, although I'm enjoying his role in all this.

Meanwhile, the Shield doesn't need a win here. As bona fide heels and corporate enforcers, they're scheduled to get their comeuppance every once in a while, and this would be a good spot to see them defeated cleanly.

Is this match for their tag team title? It doesn't make much of a difference, I suppose, although if the Rhodes' win the title, it would probably mean Dustin is an employee again.

But if Dusty gets in the ring one more time, please please PLEASE make him wear a shirt.

I actually originally thought it would turn out a six-man tag team match, with Cody Rhodes, Dusty Rhodes and Goldust vs The Shield. Regardless, I like the set up and everybody is playing a good role here. What's interesting to me is that this feud sort of came out of nowhere, and I am pleased for both sides. Cody Rhodes deserves something big, and he'll get it with use of Goldust and their dad, while The Shield are finally doing something for themselves that is interesting. I thought the next big thing they'd do would be with Triple H, yet, even though he is somewhat involved, it has been left for them to deal with and has been dealt with well.

In terms of who wins, I am torn. One idea could be to have Cody Rhodes and Goldust win, get their jobs back, and keep Goldust until WrestleMania XXX. Have the two win the WWE Tag Team Championships next month at Hell in a Cell or something; if they beat The Shield here, they can do it again and this is a) a team that can pose a threat to The Shield and b) are interesting and people will want to see the feuds take place with this team at the epicentre. This could lead to them losing the titles, have Cody turn on Goldust and set-up a match at WrestleMania XXX. Dream match, I suppose, but hey.

The likely option is Cody Rhodes and Goldust will lose, he will have to kiss ass to get his job back and likely turn into a loose heel made to do what necessary to keep his job. This could turn out well for Cody who would turn face once this corporation thing begins to blow up. Either way I'm excited. My most anticipated match for WWE Battleground, which is sort of sad considering it isn't a main event. Goes to show.

I think Rollins and Reigns win this match. This feud still has a few PPV's left in it and it would be ridiculous to have Cody and Goldust win so quickly. By firing Dusty as well then Triple H gains even more heat. Obviously Cody gets his job back eventually but I'm not sure when, Battleground is definitely to early.

I am really looking forward to seeing Dusty ringside, I have always been a fan of the American Dream and I am fully expecting to see Dusty hit the Bionic elbow on at least one member of the shield. As for the match, I am expecting the match to go back and fourth for a while Before Cody and Dustin get the upper hand. Ambrose will then attempt to course a distraction, Before Dusty turns the tables on them allowing either Cody or Dustin to hit there finisher and pick up the victory. I Don't expect the feud to end here though, and I can see Dustin and Cody challenging for the Tag titles at Surviver Series where Rollins and Reigns will get the win over the Rhodes brothers.

I think the Rhodes brothers will get the win here, and like Jack Hammer said it might not necessarily be a clean one. I can't see them dragging this on for another ppv so I look for Cody to get his job back through this match. I would also like to see them give Dustin a job as well as I think the Cody and Dustin could make a good tag team for a while. I really hope Dusty doesn't get back into the ring and this just kind of ends here with a Rhodes win.

It's an interesting set-up, with the key figure being Cody Rhodes. If his team loses, he doesn't get his job back, right?
Not only this, but Dusty loses his, and none of the Rhodes' can ever wrestle or work for WWE again.

I can't see any scenario under which the Rhodes' team doesn't win. The only possibility I've heard bantered around is Cody turns heel and costs his team the match, but that makes such little sense. He was just fired, so what's in it for him? All of this just to cost his dad a job as a developmental trainer. I simply can't see it.

If anything, this should be more about elevating Cody then anything else. Ever since Money In The Bank, he's easily been one of the better in-ring workers the company has had, and his promo on his way out the door was easily the best of his career. His matches against Sandow and his last match against Orton were all excellent, and I think the goal here was two-fold.

1. Give Cody some time off in order to get married.
2. Put Cody into a program with his dad and brother with the ultimate goal being to elevate Cody.

When this is all said and done, Dusty isn't going to be on TV every week, and Golddust is already signed to WWE, yet this was his first onscreen time in forever. So tremendous heat is put on the Shield with their attack on the Rhodes' family on Raw, allowing them to build more sympathy, and ultimately a feel-good moment on the PPV. I don't see any way in which the Rhodes lose, except for a nonsensical heel turn by Cody.

The Rhodes win and perhaps for the first in some time and the last time ever, brothers will become tag champs as they take the Tag Team Titles from The Shield.

But if Dusty gets in the ring one more time, please please PLEASE make him wear a shirt.
Or put him in the polka dots one last time.....No?

Him in his son's corner is just fine with me, and should make for a great moment when they earn their jobs back. A loss here doesn't hurt the Shield, whatsoever, but has potential to help Cody quite a bit.

I don't know.

It's unknown if WWE is interested in signing Goldust. We obviously don't have the proper backstage connections to be aware of this, but I definitely could not picture Goldust as a full-time superstar again. That's just one hint. Dusty Rhodes, from a storyline perspective, doesn't need to be on television. His backstage role seems to be working for him. That's another hint. But Cody Rhodes definitely isn't retiring this early in his career. It wouldn't make sense for him to turn on his family after what Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have done to him.

All in all, I could see The Shield losing, but I just couldn't see why WWE would be interested in having Goldust and Dusty Rhodes on television.

Shield win. and when Vince's finally returns (probably around Survivor Series)...he'll "make everything right" by rehiring Cody Rhodes. Cody then goes into a program with Ambrose before going into a WHC feud with Sandow, who'll cash in.

This is the match I am most looking forward to at Battleground and I am not truly sure what will happen, but my guess is The Rhodes get the win and outmaneuver The Shield.

I mean if they lose then what reason is there for Triple H to give them yet another chance? and if Vince just swans back in and rehires them then how lame does that make the faces look?

No, I think this is the match on the card where the faces give the crowd that big pop moment as Punk and Bryan are both likely to lose IMO.

This shouldn't be too bad at all! The Shield are almost always going to have my attention in a match and Cody is pretty good. I'm not that interested in seeing Goldust work a match at this point, but given the story this is fine. The giant pennies do not appear to be on the line, but the Rhodes family's jobs are. The Rhodes brothers will probably emerge victorious in the match. It will provide the fans with a feel good moment as Cody and Goldust get their jobs back celebrating in the ring with Dusty, whose job will also be safe.

Regardless of who wins, I do not expect the feud to end here. A match at Hell In a Cell will likely take place, with the giant pennies on the line. It promises to be one of the better matches. Will Dusty get involved? What about Ambrose? Only time will tell. Hopefully Cody and The Shield will do most of the work, Goldust is the worst of the four. It will probably go on toward the middle but leaning toward the end of the night.

DAGGER'S PREDICTION
Cody Rhodes & Goldust will defeat The Shield.

One of the easier matches to predict on this card, going with Cody and Goldust winning here.

I go into more detail in my simulation vid I just posted

The next match will see Cody Rhodes teaming up with his brother Goldust to face Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns of the Shield. The bout will be Non Title however if Cody and Goldust lose, their dad, Dusty Rhodes is fired.

My Prediction: I believe that since this is a Non Title match and I don’t see the Rhodes Family getting a perma banned, I see Cody Rhodes and Goldust winning here and facing the Shield for the Gold at Hell in a Cell in which they lose.

End Prediction: Cody Rhodes and Goldust def. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns

At last an interesting match! A great storyline, promos and build up in general, very interesting to see. If I'm not worng, this will be the first time we are going to see the Rhodes brothers teaming up and that is going to be interesting to see, their dynamic etc.

I expect a good entertaining match with the outcome seeing the Rhodes family taking up the victory.

Aided by a strong build up this was pretty much pro wrestling at it's best, 20 superb minutes from the great pre-match promo from The Rhodes, to a very good tag team match with fantastic crowd energy, to the feel good win and celebration.

I fully expect The Rhodes boys to face Rollins & Reigns again, this time for the Tag Titles, at HIAC and I welcome it!
