Wrestling Gear v. Street Clothes

I was watching the WWE.com clips from Raw tonight because I was out for the first hour and change. And I bring this to the forums as a less heated, opinion topic for discussion. It may seem like a frivolous topic, but maybe it is.

Down to business.

After Daniel Bryan defeated Kofi Kingston tonight, the Big Show came out to confront him about the DQ finish to their match last Friday. The thing I noticed was that Big Show was in his wrestling gear (the singlet, boots, hat, etc.). I understand the hat. It's merchandise that you want to sell.

What I bring to you to discuss however is: Should talent that haven't been or knowingly won't be competing in a match that night come out in street clothes instead of their gear?

The reasoning behind this is just from a logical standpoint. I think that, not only could it allow them to get t-shirts more readily out there in front of the crowd but I think that, in a way, it would enhance a general feel of realism.

Big Show was in the back, not going to compete and just decided that he needed to handle the Daniel Bryan thing. I've just always kind of felt as though it was a little weird that Big Show is just hanging out in the back in the singlet. I, of course, am only using him as an example. Anyway, it may just be me because it's the way I think but, in conclusion...

Do you think it would be a nice touch to have non-competing talent appear in street clothes during promos or in-ring segments rather than the ring gear? Why or why not?

in theory yes, but how do you know he had not already competed on NXT or Superstars or is competing in the dark match they generally hold after raw goes off the air??? Alot of talent are told to be dressed as though they are going to compete, this is just standard locker room procedure. I do agree though that if somebody is not booked to wrestle, it does look more realistic if they appear on street clothes or flogging merchandise of their own likeness.

I honestly think that wrestlers should come out in wrestling gear to enhance realism. I know that might sound rather stupid but, I believe that if they did come out in wrestling gear, you'd never know when there could be an all out brawl or an impromptu match. I think it could add to the unpredictability because you never whats going to go down in an in-ring segment albeit a brawl, a match or just a few lines between the two.

i see where you are coming from.. i hated how fLAIR wrestled his last WCW match in a shirt. But the Big Show did look kinda goofy wearing his singlet outside of the ring.. i think he should had came out in all street clothes and if he wanted to battle the way to show that would be to take his shirt off.. IDK what dark matches or NXT have to do with anything since WWE is worried more about what the tv viewers see then the live viewers.. from my perspective as a Raw viewer RAW goes down on Monday, NXT is live on Tuesday and the dark match never occured..

Flair only wore that Nitro t-shirt in that match with Sting because he was severely out of shape and very flabby and Flair was embarrassed with his appearance, its in his book. He had wrestling boots, kneepads and trunks on.

I was watching the Shawn vs Bret DVD last night and Hart/Micheals had an in ring promo and both came out in their attire. I thought exactly the same thing as you, although both may have being scheduled to fight later that night.

I much prefer seeing wrestlers in street clothes when they are interviewed. I understand t-shirts etc for merchandise purposes but something coming out in just trunks to 'make a save' or for interview looks stupid.

I think if the guy is not working on the televised show then he should come out in street clothes, I remember Punk's return last summer where he came out in full ring gear for a stare down and thought it was silly, only once since has he been allowed to come out in jeans with his merch shirt for a promo. It seems random who Vince lets cut promos in street clothes, Dolph and Miz do it but Punk, Sheamus, Orton, Cena and Bryan for instance don't.....Maybe it's a heel thing for Vince.

The worst offenders of this are when a guy is supposedly doing run-ins after being fired yet he has his wrestling gear on, Cena did this during his angle with Nexus, that is what I thought worked well about Miz and Truth when they were fired, they gave the angle some traction by doing their deeds in regular clothes.

Honestly this is kind of a weird debate.

When you see a wrestler in street gear it immediately gives away that you shouldn't expect to see that person in a highly contestable match-up.

Other then that, it doesn't really make any difference does it?

Those are all good points, but only if the talent is lazy. It does not take so long for them to change that they have to start the show ready to go at the end of the night.

Triple H never came out in his wrestling gear. He still finds time to get back stage, change, and get taped up.

Scene's like last night's look dumb without street clothes. I think it would have said more for him to come out in street clothes. It would have said he was out there to issue the challenge, with the possibility of a fight, rather than looking like a fight with an unlikely challenge.
