Morrison's New Gear

Ruddalin

Dark Match Winner
I'm not really too sure how to write an eloquent topic so I'll keep it relatively to the point here, but am I the only one who's seeing a LOT of HBK in John Morrison's new ring gear? The lack of fluffy things and the new jacket make him look a lot more serious and less of a poncey type character, back before I followed wrestling very closely I assumed he was that joke character like Hercule from dragon ball z and team rocket who talked a big game but when it came to the put up or shut up time they always get beat really easily, so needless to say I was very surprised to see him doing well in the elimination chamber, What about you guys? Do you like his new gear and think that it makes him look more formidable in the ring? Does anyone else see a connection to HBK in his new gear?

He looks NOTHING like HBK. HBK had the chaps and those crazy vests with the shiny stuff. Morrison just has the jacket and glasses. He is more of a Rock Star (Jim Morrison, where he get's his name) than what HBK was.

When did HBK ever wear a trench coat like that? Or any coat? So how does he look like HBK exactly?

The ONLY thing, and I mean ONLY THING that make his new gear look like HBK is the fact he wears pants. That's it. Other than that he looks nothing like HBK. No weird vests, no cowboy hat, no chaps. It's his own look.

I can kinda see where you are coming from. Although Morrison doesn't come to the ring wearing chaps, you can see the similarities in it to Michaels. They are both flashy characters that come out in flashy gear.

Does it make him look more formidable in the ring? No, the fact that he's been allowed to show off more of his athletic ability does. But yeah I don't think it's completely fair to disregard the idea that Morrison's attire isn't slightly inspired by Shawn Michaels or holds no similarity it.

I kinda like it because finally he changed his pants and jacket. But after the backstage heat news about him and melina I'm not suprised anymore if he will be stucked in the mid card but again thats another topic. I hope he finds a better way to be recognized as a main event material like his mic skills rather be recognized with just a new attire.

Yea I def take him more seriously....people were always saying he should change the way he dresses but I disagree because he did have his own unique look, it was just a matter of spicing it up....theres no reason now why he cant be world champion....i mean he and cm Punk fought in ECW at the same time, but it took CM Punk till 2008 to win his first title...he is already 3 years ahead of Morrison....I'd like to think Morrison will be like Edge one day, where he finally gets what he deserves, but we'll see

I don't see so much HBK in it, but now that you mention it, the one thing I do think helps is that it seperates him from MNM. You'll notice when the Rockers or the Hardyz broke up, the one who had the bigger change in look was the one that became more successful.

I'd have to disagree that Morrison is more of a rock star character than HBK... afterall, Shawn Michaels was essentially derived from Brett Michaels. So it's the same schtick Morrison is pulling. The big difference is HBK could actually pull off a promo.

I actually see the point the OP is trying to make. While HBK was/is a real-life Texas cowboy and portrayed that with his character and choice of ring attire and Morrison was/is an L.A./Hollywood type in real life and portrays that with his character and choice of ring attire, their similarities are very striking. Combined with the well-known fact that HBK was more or less a complete asshole in his earlier years and Morrison's relatively short history, one can assume Morrison is going that route. Now, weather this is the way WWE intended for him to develop or Morrison has taken it upon himself to go this route is certainly open for debate. Either way, and aside from the pops he gets, I really don't see him as one who can carry a top program. I can't put my finger on it, but there's just something missing with this guy. I'm not even talking about his stick work either. There's just something about "him", if you know what I mean.

He did wear flashy clothes into the ring like HBK used to do but i like the new look. he looks more formidable and serious than his rock star look.

I wasn't quite meaning that he was an exact expy of HBK, but HBK had the long tights with boots similar to john morrison and then they've both changed to wearing looser trousers looking ring pants.

Ok fair enough there you raise a good point he hasn't gotten to the very flashy levels of Shawn Michaels sorry I should have been more specific I was moreso referring to his in ring gear which I meant just the new pants that he wears, as far as I could remember him and shawn have been the only wrestlers to wear long pants like that in a while, which could be why my mind paired them together, but I get what you're saying here.

One other small thought that keeps popping into my head is all those studs around the bottom of his pants must hurt when his enemy gets hit by any of his kicks, thoughts?

I think the attire's fine, though it doesn't resemble HBK because HBK had the whole sexy thing going on and with this as PG they can only hint at something like that.

i did not like it i hate brown leather. but if he gets a diffrent color i would love his new gear. i hope this "morrison in the dog house" thing is not true i want to see him in the title hunt.

Its about time he got rid of the fur, if it was him that thought that it was a good idea to keep the fur that long he lacks good judgement. Miz said in an interview once that he thought one of the things that got his career going further was when he got rid of the shorts and started wearing trunks(although I think he'd be better off in tights like Edge's)I think getting rid of the fur was a big step for Morrison.

And I can see where the poster is coming from with the HBK thing, Morrison doesn't look or talk like HBK or anything and he doesn't have that edge, but I'd say he was like a modern day, middleclass man's(poor man's is a little to negative), Heartbreak Kid.

People may have misinterprted this thread for one of the numerious Morrison is the new HBK threads, but I'm meaning purely at a cosmetic level, they have long hair and look quite the prettyboy type, both of them wear long ring tights and both of them are incredibly talented in the right, I definitely do know where to draw the line, Morrison still hasn't grasped the concept that spot monkeying does not equate to wrestling psychology and talent, HBK has a reason for using his flashy moves because he's Mr Wrestlemania and the Showstopper and everything like that, Morrison should take a step back and first justify his moves, starship pain isn't a logical choice for anyone to use as their finishing move, nor does it convey a story, whereas the superkick is a very good finisher for all of the reasons I know everyone already knows so I won't bother listing here.

I can see where you're going with this "Similar to HBK" opinion. But not only is the attire new, it's way more serious looking. I always liked the fur and stuff, it was unique and made JoMo the wrestler he is. But this new attire looks like he's ready to get sh*t done! I can take him more seriously now, and this could be just the next step in his massive push lately.
