Wrestlemania: Sure-fire disappointments

travistragic

Occasional Pre-Show
I wanted initially to ask what you'd think is going to be the best, but come on, who's honestly going to argue with HBK vs. Undertaker?

Instead then, I'm going to ask what is most likely to be a disappointment in your eyes. And also, if you'd like, offer a remedy.

In my opinion, I have to go with Cena vs. Big Show vs. Edge. The build-up for this is starting to drag and I'm almost positive that everybody is still wondering why the hell Big Show was included. Big Show can not and will not win this, and I think that's kind of a distraction to the bigger picture of Cena vs. Edge. Unless they wanted to pull some swerve with Vickie to have Big Show win, but come on, this is Wrestlemania, there's just no way they'll do that. They could have a swerve where Show lays down for Edge to pin, but that's lame too. Otherwise we have the likely scenario of John Cena walking away with the title fair and square which seems just way too obvious, almost to the point of f* that, why'd they even bother having a match.

I have two remedies somewhat-realistic and unrealistic.

Unrealistically would be having Christian win and then cash in his money in the bank to beat an Edge who had just won the title. This makes sense on a lot of levels, Edge would be on the ironic end of the MITB opportunity (though, I suppose they already pulled that with Punk) and Christian would finally get his revenge for that ol' king of the ring jealousy of yore. It's unrealistic because obviously, VKM doesn't have that kind of stock in Christian and even while I like the idea, it kind of lacks a build-up for Christian since he's only been back for so long (still rooting for him at MITB anyway)

Semi-realistically, and I also think this would be a lot of fun, Vickie swerves Edge and Big Show, then Cena wins the belt with a celebratory smooch from Vickie. God, that'd be a heel turn done so well, that even I would like Cena for it. But ehh, just my opinion.

What do you expect to disappoint (is that ironic? Is it a disappointment if you expect it? Fuck semantics, you know what I mean) and what would be a good remedy in your eyes?

While I like the Christian idea, Im sticking with my prediction that JBL leaves WM25 with both the IC title and the WHC. I think hes going to buy the MITB briefcase from whoever wins it and cash it in and take the title from Cena right after he beats Edge and Show.

As for disappointment, I think its obvious the worst of the night will unfortunately be the Jericho match. That will even be worse than the Divas battle royal.

I would love to have Christian win the title that way after winning MitB but your point of Vince not having that kind of stock in him is very valid. That would be incredible and shocking too. I'd love a Cena heel turn also but I doubt it. I totally agree about the Big Show. I told my friend the other day the build up for this match is more like an off month ppv like Unforgiven or something not for the "biggest show of the year"

i think the hardy vs hardy match is gonna disapoint. i think we can expect one big move from jeff nd matt will go over. nothin special the end will b a twist of fate

Ok, now i like your idea of Christian winning, but i don't think he would go for Edge. Persoannly, i think they may make Kane win, and give him a last run, because i don't see him being around for much longer.

I think the disappointment of the night would be Cena winning the title and him having yet another boring title run, and Jerichos match too, which shouldn't even be happening.

whats gonna be the biggest disappointment of wrestlemania....here it is..........wait for it.....wait for it....................THE WHOLE F'N SHOW!

only the fact that its wrestlemania will i order the show and hope that something great happens. If it was another ppv with this line up i would no doubt not even care.

If i had to pick a match i will definately be edge, show and cena. Cena has about a 90% chance to win to make the kiddies happy and that sucks.

taker vs hbk should be good but we know who wins. all the rest i could sleep through except mitb and orton vs hhh. and the latter not that exciting either.

hopefully benjamin will pull some crazy stuff to save mitb, we get some surprises like austin, hogan, rock.
this whole ppv has been thrown together in the last month and that is crazy. what happened to storylines that lasted a while. we are suppose to get excited about hhh vs orton and they haven't feuded in years. zzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz oh sorry i just fell asleep thinking about wrestlemania.

The biggest disappointment for me is when Christian wins MitB. MVP or Shelton have been booked poorly, so they won't win, Punk had it last year, Kofi, Kane, henry and Finaly don't stand a chance so that leaves everyones favourite Christian...Who doesn't deserve it. Seriously, he wasn't main event when he left, why should he get that billing now? And for him cashing it in at Mania don't be stupid, why would they end the biggest ppv of the year with a mid carder winning a world title? It has nothing to do with Vince, it is to do with Christian not being main event worthy.

The biggest disappointment will be the tag match. It was my favourite match up when it was announced, but not with the stupid lumberjack stipulation. This takes so much out of the match it is unbelievable, either the lumberjacks will just stop outside flips or R-Truth is going to have a hand in the win, either keeping him babyface or turning him heel (stupid cos he is over with the crowd).

Oh, and this thread should have been posted in the Wrestlemania 25 section

My biggest dissapointment is that Kozlov is not in the main event.
Just kidding.

I think that the Rey/JBL match is going to set new levels of suckosity.
After so many years without an IC title match I am happy to see the belt defended at WM again but not with these two.

JBL is a Career mid carder who would have NEVER been world champion if Lesnar stuck around.
And Rey Rey is probably imo the most overrated person on the roster. His best days were 6 years ago against Angle, and its been downhill ever since.

So my biggest dissapointment is that the belt that was part of one of the greatest WM matches{WM 10} is being fought over by these two lame ducks.

Some good replies so far.

To answer back to a few: shit JRCongine, you're more pessimistic than I am, in the fantasy world where I'm Tony Reali, I give you megapoints. I've learned through IWCs through the years that I pretty much get bashed whenever I call something "shit all around" so I tried to hold my tongue. I went to WM24 in Miami and had to pretend to all my friends that I didn't take smokebreaks through half the shit, pissed off as hell that CM Punk, the only guy I had a problem winning the MITB, won it, ruining what was for me one of few good matches on the card. But, as a diehard alcoholic and vice-friendly guy, I hate the idea of a straight-edge face (how the fuck is he a good guy?) I still lean on Michaels-Flair and Edge-Undertaker to justify the hundreds of dollars I spent going.

But I think you are too pessimistic, at least this year. I honest to god could give two shits about anything except HBK-Taker with a little slice of fingers-crossed for Matt Hardy as my appetizer. That's worth splitting the PPV amongst a few friends for me.

Most seem to like my idea about Christian except for Pebble who wonders if we're stupid. I said "unrealistic" at least a few times, and maybe he isn't "main event material" in a lot of people's eyes, but that's MY pleasure, what I want to see, which will never happen. I can hold my little nutties for whatever I want; fuck if I had it my way, Ultimo Dragon would win a world heavyweight title at Mania, fuck it, he'd win nearly every title at Mania and Psicosis would debut as Vickie's new boyfriend to win Edge's title. Unrealistic, against logic for sure, and less likely to occur than the last digit of Pi, I was just trying to play upon actual, if unrealistic, possibilities that a few people happen to appreciate with me.

I do agree with you, though, on the tag match, with the lumberjack stipulation that'll be dumb and a terrible waste of a unification match. In fact, the idea that Cryme Tyme isn't involved bothers the shit out of me. A remedy: Cryme Tyme, who's deserved a tag team title for years now, steals the belts after the match and runs off. Now that sounds realistic.

Points to theotherside, too. The IC title is one of the best belts in the history of wrestling, IMO. Good point all around.

I think the biggest disapointment will be when Shelton Benjamin wins the MITB ladder match, leading to an inevitable God-awful title run. They had him drop the U.S. title to MVP for a reason, my guess is to finally elevate the guy. Yeah, I know, he can put on a hell of a match(HBK Gold Rush 05 is a MUST SEE) and his matches with Trips, but he just doesnt work hard consistently, is too much of a spot monkey, and AWFUL on the mic. But its gonna happen. And I may get crucified for this, but Im looking forward to the JBL-Rey Rey match. I thought their Judgment Day and JBL's subsequent retirement match in 06 were the best two JBL matches Ive ever seen. Other then his WM21 match with Cena of course, if only because it got the damn title off of him. Horrid match though, just awful.

Sure-fire dissapointment for WrestleMania? HBK Taker. Why? So much buildup so much hype it can't live up to it thus making it the biggest disapointment. You can't be disspointd in something you're not looking forward too so how can it be the triple threat match? It doesn't seem like anyone is looking forward to this or even the Jericho match. HHH Orton could be the disapointment as it has a good buildup, but not quite to the likes of the HBK Taker match.

i do agree with adamjv80 on the shelton thought. this is his what 4th mitb match and yes he is a spot monkey and horrid on the mic. i do see him winning it and becoming a world champion you gotta remember when he was on ecw and working with dusty he showed improvement on the mic but has regressed alittle. but give him a mouth piece such as teddy long or somebody to speak for him and let his actions in the ring take care of the rest i can see him as world champion material. but yes i am gonna be disappointed when he wins.

Tricky to answer. HBK and Taker is going to be done very well, I have no doubt about that. Cena/Show/Edge to me will be fine. It won't be as good as Taker/Edge last year, but it'll be decent. But here's where it gets tough...

1) I have absolutely no confidence that HHH/Orton will be good. So to me, if that sucks, I won't be shocked.

2) I have even less expectations for JBL/Mysterio. If that match has 2 good spots in it, I'll be surprised. I'm literally expecting that match to be so incredibly bad that it sucks all the energy out of the audience and people LAUGH at how bad it was.

3) The tag team unification match was something I was really looking forward to, but when they added the Lumberjack stipulation, it hinders them way too much. So the match to me isn't going to be as good as it would've been without that gimmick. I just hope that Vince doesn't look at the match being shitty and blame it on the performers, but rather, realizes that they have less to work with under those conditions.

4) Jericho's match is going to be atrocious. I won't be disappointed in it, because I don't expect anybody to enjoy it at all. That's like saying "when I drank that rancid milk, I didn't expect it to taste that bad. How disappointing."

In general, if ANYTHING sucks about it, I'll be disappointed, as this logically SHOULD be the best ppv of the year, but the card looks atrocious. So because of that, my expectations are vehemently low. When you go into something expecting it to suck and it does (like I do with almost every Finlay match), you're not as disappointed as when you go into something expecting it to be amazing and it sucks (like the movie Watchmen lol).

More interesting stuff. I have to say, I definitely like Benjamin, but I think WWE'd be out of their minds if they were honest to god gonna give him a shot. He can out-wrestle 90% of the roster, for sure, but he is not as built up mic-wise, storyline-wise, or otherwise as guys like MVP, Christian, Punk, Finlay, or even Kane. I LOVE Benjamin, don't get me wrong in the slightest, but he is, dare I say it, the next gen Benoit; a guy we can see hopefully, finally, getting a nice title run in another five years while we all fucking orgasm in the delight of a success long with-held; hopefully he won't fuck it all up the same sort of way. But now?!? I wouldn't count on it any more than my crazy "Christian wins a world title plan."

I like No Fate, too, he cuts through all the shit. I do have to say, however, as pessimistic and angry as I am (and am constantly surprised how many of you are are angrier and more depressed than me) to everybody who think WM25 is going to suck, that Michaels-Taker should be worth it all. WWE has fucked my dreams every which way sideways til tuesday, but if you honestly think the two greatest Mania performers in the history of mania performers will let us down, then you are at Nietszche-studying, Pseudo atheistic philosophy grad student fuck levels of social hate, my friend. Like Nihilism's angry step-cousin. Yeah, shit sucks, shit sucks in general, but Michaels-Taker, that, I fucking guarantee with the last meager breath that still appreciates wrestilng in my body, will not suck. If it does, to paraphrase Mercutio, you will find me a grave man (at least in terms of a wrestling fan).

That's easy. Chris Jericho v. The Legends. Everyone was hoping Stone Cold would come back for one more match, and it would make sense if he were to face Jericho at Mania but since that didn't happen we got this. Personally, I think they should have put Jerry Lawler up against Jericho at Mania. Lawler can still wrestle and could carry a very entertaining match with Jericho, especially at Mania. I'm dissapointed that's not happening and even though we will see this Monday on RAW, it won't come anywhere close to being as good of a match as it could be at Mania. What's so stupid about this match, and I mean no disrespect to those great legends, but none of them can carry a good match anymore. We have already seen Piper make a comeback and Flair had to carry most of those matches. Even Piper knows he isn't in shape to be wrestling anymore. Superfly can't do much either, we saw him comeback to and he can't do what he did back in the day. Steamboat is the only one I'm not sure about because I haven't seen him wrestle in forever, I think since he retired, so I don't know how well he will do, but don't bet on it being great. Ric Flair for his age can still wrestle, but I am so glad they didn't have him come out of retirement, that would have ruiend Wrestlemania 24 in my opinion. Jerry Lawler would have been the best option in my opinion but one can't cry over spilled milk. It's going to be heavly planned out from top to bottom and it's just one of those matches where Jericho is going to have to really carry. It will be entertaining but that's about it, don't expect an A+ quality match here and for surely ain't the reason I am ordering Mania.

The biggest disappointment will be....

Jericho VS 3 Dinosaurs.
It's no secret that all three of them were awesome back in the day, but now they can barely move and are too old. I expect every other match to be good but this one. Jericho deserves better!

Oh well, maybe it will open the show and then we'd have the worst out of the way before the good stuff happens.

Im not real sure how you can say this. I dont think anyone is expecting it to be anything above atrocious, so its pretty much impossible for it to be a disappointment.

I cant say I have real high hopes for anything on this Mania, save for Taker Vs HBK. So, thats easily the answer, and so many people are getting such raging stiffies for this match. Itll be nearly impossible for it to live up to wat everyone is hoping for
