Would This MITB Idea Work?

Getting Noticed By Management
You could have a really cunning or crazy MITB holder take his case all year and tease cashing it in all the time, even at house shows and even on Network shows where the champion may appear such as Swerved or Total Divas or Tough Enough. The final payoff of this would result in the briefcase holder cash in the contract while the champion is at home or at a restaurant and so on.

I know it sounds stupid and would do basically nothing to move the ratings or even get a good crowd reaction, thus why it hasn't happened yet but still...would you be interested in a cash in which fully uses the "cash in at any time, anywhere"

It would really depend on the execution. The hardcore title was defended like this and resulted in many funny and memorable segments, like the airport, the ball pit, etc. The thing about MITB is that its usually a big moment for a live crowd, and I think they'd feel somewhat robbed of it, if it happened in a taped segment.

I would think the way to make something like this work would be to do it at a public event, like if there was say a WrestleMania press conference being televised on ESPN or something, that way it's still in front of an audience and it's still live. If nothing else it would add a huge amount of unpredictability to MITB.

If it was done during Swerved....nobody would see it. If Seth Rollins was having intercorse with his girlfriend and was cashed in on in his bedroom...nobody would see it. I think it would need to be witnessed by the masses in order for it to matter. Plus, it's just stupid...like the 24/7 hardcore title thing in the 90s got old after two weeks flat.

I think you might be wrong there. It would be up on twitter the first time they had a fight.

On topic. Why hold a PPV for the MITB make a huge deal out of it and then not show the cash in, seems like a gigantic waste of time and effort really. As someone else said the hardcore title was done like that anywhere, anytime, and there were some really funny situations out of it. I just think it would devalue the title if they put this into place though.

If this MITB match keeps happening year after year (and it seems as though it will) and it becomes as regular and as expected as the Royal Rumble then I'd say a while down the road when WWE is really looking to cause some interest or when they want another big event to promote their Network then I could see them doing an angle where on a Network show that is well promoted already or highly watched they could have the MITB holder cash in to a big surprise and then immediately post it all over social media and create a lot of buzz.

Yeah, I could see it happening and I wouldn't be totally against it, I just hope it would be executed well and "logically" (as logical as you can be with pro wrestling).

I like the idea but the problem is it plays totally against wwe now. You rarely see a title change(any title) change hands on Raw today, let alone any of the other shows. If someone won the title on Tough Enough or Total Divas, it would wreak of a publicity stunt. The house show idea could be interesting - imagine a face has the briefcase and you have a heel champ. The champ and someone else are supposed to have a title match on Raw but the week before, we see the challenger taken out backstage. Heel starts gloating that he probably doesn't have that title match next week. Jump to the start of Raw next week and the MITB winner comes out first thing as champ - he cashed in at a house show and beat the heel. Would be cool for both the house show and as a start to Raw and it would be a good use of the MITB rules. You could say that they lose money by doing that but really, no one is supposed to know when that briefcase is cashed in and most matches are very short - it isn't like cashing it in at the end of a ppv is going to result in more buys or anything unless they let it out that it is going to happen. Of course, only place they would probably do that is in MSG

Once i think this might have happened as there was still the odd title changes at house shows but today, I don't see it happening short of maybe on NXT but I doubt even there now because it seens to be doing alright without main roster talent being on it. Maybe we will see it on Raw or Smackdown but more likely the cash-ins are going to be ppv events.

Keep MITB the way it is.

I still remember the Raw where J.R was giving his speech, I sat there 1/2 asleep after working all day, Edge comes out. Batista heads out, beats Edge's ass for the title retention shenanagins the night prior and C.M Punks music hit.

I'm wide awake, my then g.f saying i'm holding her hand so tight it hurt and immediately invested in the show.

The cash in at a rest stop/bathroom/bedroom/restaurant needs to stay away and is part of the corny nature of pro wrestling I'm glad has dwindled down some

MITB has been around for ten years, I'm completely in favor of changing things up and doing something different with it.

However, with this idea in particular it would really have to depend on the execution. First of all, compleltely forget about reality shows like Tough Enough or Swerved, that's just stupid. I like the idea of doing MITB teases at house shows, because that's just a fun thing for a live audience, but the holder wouldn't atually end up cashing it in. Also, I'm pretty sure the MITB contract stipulates that you get a regular Title match. Meaning a match that takes place in a ring, not in some guy's house when he's taking a shit. I remember leading into Mania 14 (and probably Manias since then) they had a big media event where they set up a ring outside and drew a huge crowd for Mike Tyson and DX. If they did something like that promoting a PPV and the champion was in the ring and the MITB holder jumped them and cashed it in, that could be cool and different. Plus you'd have the energy of a live audience seeing something they've never really seen before. It would all depend on the place and time you do it. Another possible idea would be to have the champion appear as a special guest or something for an NXT Takeover special, and have he MITB cash-in happen there.

Charismatic Enigma said it best. I would feel disappointed if a cash-in happened at something other than Raw or a PPV. It's like "You've been teasing this for months, and then it finally happens, and I didn't even get to see it live?" That's bad booking.

The one thing that is different now than in the past is WWE Network. While I agree that title changes tend to happen at PPVs first and on RAW a distant second, if WWE is trying to push the Network, I could see a network only event between PPV's where something of significance could happen. I don't think they'd go that extreme to show a MITB Cash In unless it's going to be a failed cash-in. My point is, don't rule out the Network as a vehicle for something significant happening.
