Would moving PPVs to Saturday be a good idea?

Occasional Pre-Show
Hello friends, I was thinking the other day about how some of the PPvs used to be on Saturday like the old Royal Rumbles.
I feel that now with the network, these events don't have to be on Sundays anymore, and there's a lot of benefits to it.

1. Theres not much competition on Saturdays (NFL, random awards show, etc.)
2. People can stay up until 11pm and not have to worry about to getting to school or work the next day.
3. Most important they can give the wrestlers Sunday off to recover from the matches, One day isnt much but to a person working a day off is huge.
Also i get a little uncomfortable seeing someone do a TLC or Hell in a cell and the very next night he or she is working. I feel like you can do that on Saturday and have Sunday off to rest, so Monday you are better and good to go.

Just an idea and I would like some feedback, maybe this is good or crazy who knows?

I always wondered why the hell WWE PPV's were on Sunday instead of Saturday. I assume it's because of the WWE scheduling, but yes Saturday PPV's would be much better. WWE's target market seem to be kids, so wouldn't it make sense to air a PPV on a day where most kids would be able to watch it? I remember as a kid, I would always have to be in bed by the time a PPV started, but on Saturdays I was allowed to stay up as late as I wanted.

I never could understand what the logic behind that was. Maybe somebody could explain it to me?

WWF/WWE would have conducted extensive market research on what evening will draw more buys for the PPVs. It is done purely as a business reason.

Additionally; hosting PPVs on Sundays should, in theory, attract people to watch the following evenings Raw which is a vital income generator for WWE. If they staged it on a Saturday and then 2 days went by; it has some impact to the brand; for example - people forget about Raw because the PPV was 2 days before. Now; i know us IWC watch with fierce loyalty but a lot of passing viewers do not.

Great idea... Totally agree. It was really obvious on RAW that Ziggler and Harper could have used a night off after that brutal ladder match at TLC.. If only to play devils advocate the only drawback I see to the idea is you can't immeadiately bring people back in the next day to see what happens next and or start your next feud... PPV matches are already seriously overbooked and I can see more "storyline advancing" finishes as opposed to "storyline ending" finishes from creative if they know they have to bring people back two days later instead of the next night.

But for the wrestlers and the overall good of the company Saturday PPVs seem best for business.

True, but that's probably why NFL puts their games on Sunday instead of Friday or Saturday; those two days are the traditional "going out" times for people who work weekdays, particularly the target age group for WWE. In my 20's and early 30's, I wouldn't dream of being home on a Saturday night; my friends were going out and I wasn't about to be caught staying home and watching TV.

Sunday night is better for WWE largely because of the NFL; many of the same target audience are sitting at home on Sunday, watching football games....they're the folks who are right where WWE wants them when Sunday at 8PM comes around.

I'd leave things the way they are. Unless there's a snowstorm, folks won't be home Saturday night to watch a wrestling PPV.

And my other point was meant to be that by keeping saturday nights ppv free - it prevents any competition from Football, boxing UFC etc when they host their PPV's!

I think a few reasons. Saturday nights most are out doing something - date, movies, party ect.. While on Sunday night your usually home to unwind. And while the NFL isn't on Saturday night until late in the season, college football is on Saturday night all season long. Not only is college on but they have 3-5 games on at night a few of which are good games, where as NFL has 1 game on Sunday night.

Plus they have UFC and boxing to compete with on Saturday nights.

But heck in this day and age, why not schedule PPV's back on the holidays. Royal Rumbles were on Saturdays, but Survivor Series was on Thanksgiving or the night before, Summerslam was on Labor day, King of the Ring was on Fathers day.

But why not have PPV's on Saturday.. Friday, Tuesday, who cares the day of the week. Its on the network and replayed, and seen any time you want to watch. If more people can or do watch on a Monday night than they do or can on Sunday why not just have a weeknight PPV? I.E Taboo Tuesday, This Tuesday in Texas, Summerslam on Labor Day ect...

Well, how well have those PPV's during the week really worked? Tuesday In Texas was only on one year, as far as I know. Taboo Tuesday was kinda cool but obviously it didn't work as they changed it back to Sunday after the second or third year before scrapping it altogether. I personally wouldn't mind watching on a Saturday, but I know it wouldn't really work out for most people.

I wouldn't be against this. The one major downside to the sunday PPV tradition has always been that I end up staying up late when I have work the following morning, or school back when I was younger. Saturday PPV's would allow for PPV parties that last later. I can also understand the point made by the threadstarter about how the wrestlers get time to rest without having to appear on Raw the night following an intense match. I doubt it will happen anytime soon though.... WWE PPV events being on sundays is a tradition and the old saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". They won't move them to saturdays unless they have a really good reason to.

LOL that is the most poorest excuse I have ever seen! Seriously? wwe had Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC from what I was told by friends long time ago and WCW had a ppv on a Saturday Night I believe it was Hogs Wild and Souled Out nWo so why can t wwe do it Saturday? I agree since Sunday is bad cause many don t watch it cause of workweek Monday! Those dreaded Mondays we all hate! Besides UFC holds all their PPVs on Saturday Night as well as Bellator!

There is too much going on Saturday's for families/kids.

You've got a full slate of NBA/NHL/MLB so fans in cities across the country have that as 1 option, esp. Saturday nights when parents are off work and want to take their kids.

You'd be possibly running up against UFC and its ever-growing popularity.

You'd be asking high schoolers and older to give up a non-school night of going out socially/partying to get by a TV and watch.

Sunday is a lazy day/night where many people are home and by a TV.

The same reasons why major networks don't air big-time TV shows on Saturday and why HBO/Showtime air some of their most popular on Sunday's is why WWE decides to do this

Absolutely not....Far fewer people are home on FRI & SAT than they are on Sunday. On the weekends people, both adults and kids, are out with friends, traveling, sports, etc, everyone is home Sunday night, the night before the regular work and school week begins.

This is why the TV networks do very little original programming on these nights...the audience is splintered and most of what is home is much older (Hence why shows like "Blue Bloods" air here, it targets and older demo).

Sunday's are perfect for WWE PPV's. If they were on Saturday's, I probably wouldn't watch them at all. I have too many options on Saturday's.

On Sunday's, there is nothing on TV worth watching as I quit watching the simpsons/fox 15 years ago. Nowadays I just watch Walking Dead on Sunday's which is not a big deal because I watch the show on TV while I stream the PPV's on my Laptop.

Saturday's are perfect option choice in my opinion and I am sure many fans will agree when UFC doesn't hold a PPV on that given Saturday Night wwe can hold ppv's Saturday night cause Sunday is bad cause many don t watch it cause of workweek Monday! Those dreaded Mondays we all hate! Besides UFC holds all their PPVs on Saturday Night as well as Bellator! So why not wwe? WCW had a few ppvs on Saturday Night Hog Wild and nWo Souled out on Saturday Night cause Sunday is church day primarily and football day along with hockey sometimes . I believe wwe should hold a poll asking the majority of the audience what day is suitable for PPV and you ll see many we ll say Saturday!
