Would It Mean Anything If Sting Went Back To TNA?

Getting Noticed By Management
If Sting returned to TNA would it mean anything? Would it be exciting? Would it help the product? Most importantly, would anyone care? Lets adress the WWE situtation before people have a chance to scream that everyone is a hypocrite because we all wanted him in the WWE.

We all got excited at the thought of seeing Sting in the WWE because it would be something new. It was the chance to see something that we didn't think would ever happen. And it gave the possibility for feuds, matches, and promos that we never thought would happen. There was a world of things that have never been done before that we could have seen. Nevertheless, this thread is about Sting going back to TNA.

I like Sting, but there is just nothing he could do in TNA now that I could imagine myself getting pumped up for. He has already feuded with almost everyone on the roster over the last 7 years. I certainly don't want to see him come out and argue with Flair and Bischoff about things that happened in another company 15 years ago. Immortal became so watered down after Fourtune left that TNA doesn't need his help storyline wise to fight them. The only people he could do something new with would be Hardy and Anderson, and I dont see either of those feuds being epic.

Every few years Sting has had talks of retiring from TNA. They build it up like we wont see him again and he comes back. Each time he did this it ment less and less. I understand that Sting/TNA fans will always want him back, but I wonder what he can still offer the company as an on screen character. He wont come back and have a huge showdown with Hogan over the fate of TNA. Hogan hasn't been on TV in months and is in no shape to wrestle again. I can't think of any big way he could return and "shake up" TNA.

So I ask, is there anything exciting that you would want to see Sting do if he came back to TNA? Would it mean anything to you if he did come back?

Let me ask you does Undertaker appearing and disappearing every 5 months "shake" things up for WWE? No, of course not. So, why would Sting do the same with TNA?

However, I fully disagree on Sting vs. Hardy not being epic. Both have mysterious edgy gimmicks. It was a match that I was hoping for when Hardy signed on.

Sting still has one more push left before he gets a TNA sendoff. I'm expecting them to use it. Give him 1 whole year of main eventing from AJ, Angle, Jarret to Hardy and Anderson.

It would mean alot to the TNA fans. I have no idea who else your expecting to care.

No one wants to see Sting in TNA just like no one wants to see The Rock or The Undertaker in TNA. It's the minor leagues. If Sting returned to TNA next week, no one would care. It wouldn't be exciting. The only thing left for him to do in his career is to join WWE. Otherwise, it would be the same old stuff.

It would mean they'd eventually push for a Sting/Flair match, which was itself a nostalgia trip in 2001 at the last Nitro. Shows how old they are.

He'd probably put over Anderson or someone. He's already lost to AJ Styles so I don't know any other major face he could give a good rub to.

No it want do a damn thing for Sting or TNA and no one outside the Impact Zone will give shit or even notice if he returns. He has done everything there is to do there and nothing he does from this point on with mean a thing.

It pains me to say this because I adore Sting and I never miss TNA but no, I don't want Sting back. As much as it hurts to say this, the legends are not pumping viewing or PPV figures. The money that would be spent to resign the Icon for another year would be better spent trying to bolster the tag division, or the X Division or the X Division - the areas that TNA used to stand out in.

Stinger should go to the Entertainers, have his last headline run and take his rightful place in the HoF.

TNA should bring back Sting and have him join Hogan, Flair & Steiner and form the "AARP" stable. They can feud with the Hardy's & Ink Inc., the "Lost Boys" stable. Just imagine the promos, Hogan on the Mic " What are you going to do, when The AARP limps wild on you brother", then a Flair "WOO", fallow by Steiner doing push ups on his walker and Sting carrying a black whiffle bat screaming "Woo". Then JB is backstage with The Lost Boys , but they are all past out after taking their vitamins ( drugs ). But would TNA sing Sting on time or lose him to WWE and then be force to use Plan B ( Dixie tweeting that she is happy about doing a all NWA PPV and yes they have Harley Race Sign to a 5yr contract).

This is an interesting question to pose. Would I want to see Sting in TNA again? The fan in me says "Yes". The realist says "No". before you paint that as the end all of things, I would love to see Sting one last time in TNA to finish up what was started with the Hogan thing. He gave Flair a pass and it lead people to believe that there would be one last showdown between he and Flair. I would love to see it one last time. On one last side note though, with that being said, I don't want to see Sting in the WWE though either. As cool as it would be to see those few dream matches, it still wouldn't be worth the one really cool thing Sting has at this point: The man is a, Legend in the Sport and has NEVER worked for World Wrestling Entertainment. That right there is awesome because Vince can't take credit for anything Steve Borden has done with his career other than putting Sting out of a job when he bought WCW. I would like to see Sting in the WWE Hall of Fame for his contributions to Professional Wrestling and I would love to see Stinger sit in with WWE to get an Ultimate DVD set for his long and outstanding Career. That way some of the younger people that seem to not understand our fixation with Sting can see what he was like in his prime. He can still go, but I don't see WWE giving him the modified, light work schedule that TNA does. So yes and no. One last big run would be cool so Sting could exit TNA on top of the mountain. If not, then no.

How about the people that buy PPV's? I'd expect them to care, since most TNA fans can't be bothered to spend money on the product they endorse. I'm asking if Sting comming back would get ratings up, sell more merchendise, or have wrestling fans talking. Those are pretty much the things that every wrestler, promoter, and booker hopes for when someone comes back to a company. I like Sting too, but how many times is he gonna have his swan song? He's had "one more run" at least 3 times now. I never said he didn't have one more run left in him before he retires. You want him to spend a year feuding with Angle, Jarret, Hardy, Anderson, and AJ? The has spent the last 5 years feuding with three of those guys. How many more Sting - Jeff Jarrett main events do you want to see? Maybe he would have good matches with Hardy and Anderson, but I don't think they will set the wrestling world on fire.

I agree with you that it would mean a lot to TNA fans. However, these are the same fans that go to a free show and mostly watch free streams of PPV's instead of paying for them. For Sting to mean something with a comeback he needs to do something that will help the company as a whole become more successful (which is the main goal of every promotion). Unfortunatly, I don't see that happening.

Tuffy my friend, I am a huge fan of your threads. Keep up the good work brother!

As for your thoughts, I believe Dizzy hit the nail on the head. It would be a case of the same old same old. I loved the Stinger back in the day for me. Back in the day is the early 90's as I was born in 1984. He was WCW's Ultimate Warrior with skill in my eyes.

When WCW closed I was hopeful and happy. Not because it closed but because dream match possibilities plugged in my teenage brain! I digress, we never saw as many as we should have. They got Goldberg, Steiner, Booker, etc. But the Stinger was always on my brain.

When he went to TNA i winced. The FIRST time. It seemed as though he was going to war with a paintball gun with a bunch of guys handling water pistols. I'm not trying to bash TNA but it seemed underwhelming to me having his SECOND run FULLTIME as a sideshow attraction setting.

Maybe I hoped too much and thought there'd be more behind his run, perhaps I was looking for a Wrestlemania esque feeling. All I can tell you is it didnt feel like the Stinger had "arrived". Rather it felt like he was making the best out of what he had and did not want to pull a WWE card yet.

Now with this 2.21.11 stuff goin on I have high hopes. If he does indeed resign with TNA and if he appears again on Impact I feel as though it will be the same old same old. Which is fine and dandy but I have higher hopes again.

Guys it feels as though its 2001 again, hell its 10 years after. Nostalgia is running high. Lets hope. Have a great day all!

If Sting were to return to TNA, I would consider him a Hypocrite. One of the reasons he didn't want to work in the WWE originally was because of his Christian values and the WWE was too much against his Christian values

Now the WWE is PG and TNA has become the show more like the old WWE, by this I mean of course with the blood and swearing and women wearing next to nothing.

I've posted about this before, and I'll post on it again. Sting to TNA, while it will give the TNA fanatics some kind of "victory satisfaction" over WWE, would be old hat, and wouldn't benefit TNA, the fans, or even Sting himself.

How long was he in the company before leaving? Did they climb to the top of the ratings game? Would bringing him back to feud w/the same people or one or two "newer" guys that haven't brought the ratings up either really be the send-off you want for Borden??

I've said it before and I'll say it again. With Sting getting older, and on the verge of retirement, he needs a nest egg. Not out of greed, but out of simple common sense for himself and his family. If he went back to TNA, would the "huge merchandise sales" :lmao: give him and his family the security that a WWE run would? Could you imagine the sales for Sting related WWE merch? Good God, it boggles the mind.

Yes, Sting going to TNA would probably mean he would go out w/out ever setting foot in a WWE setting. Is that something that will keep his legacy alive more than, say, a small WWE run, DVD and book deals, a HOF spot, a Legends contract, and becoming accessible to yet another generation of wrestling fans who will remember him because they saw him as a kid in WWE, clashing w/the revered Undertaker?

There is obviously a fresh group of young wrestling fans to think about in WWE, and they would benefit immensely from seeing Sting. Not only from a learning about the past and being able to cherish the memory of seeing a legend such as Steve Borden standpoint, but also down to a possible tighter bond w/their parents and grown ups from asking questions and hearing stories after sharing in the legacy that the grown ups remember first hand without simply hearing the name and saying "Who's Sting?". Much better to see w/your own eyes than hear about it from a second source.

Or, even worse, TNA is bought out by Vince and Sting is in the same boat he was in with WCW.

I know, I know, it's not about the money. But what about the fans? Do you think that the loyal WWE Universe, a lot of which were/are Sting fans and still admire Sting, do not deserve his presence? Last I checked, there were more fans of WWE than TNA, and the buzz around the 2-21-11 promos proves that they are salivating for a chance to show Sting the love and respect they hold in their hearts for him.

It's almost like a person that has a favorite DVD, CD, piece of jewelry, family heirloom, or other sentimental object of their exes and still holds a grudge over something that happened in their relationship. Do you keep holding onto it, even though there's no point to it, both of you have moved on, you've found another person that treats you good, and there is no reason to keep it from them?

Or do you cling to it like a child, still spiteful and vindictive, causing problems not only w/the ex for holding onto it, but also your present partner for it being such an obvious hangup that you can't get over?

I agree with you 100% you hit the nail right on the head. I respect Sting Christians values and views but how can he feel that TNA is a family friendly product when your champion is in court for drugs charges and plays a anti-christ character, Mr. Anderson with his Ahole gimmick and Flair saying he is god. But to be honest Sting is not the only one being a hypocrite I think Kurt Angle is also,I remember the ECW arena thing like it was yesterday and he really bad mouth them for what they did with the sandman. But I guess money can buy new Values for some people. And what's sad is that other people on here are going to defend their acts. I commend you for your truthful comment and view.

Im not gonna lie I was about to put the exact same thing. And well if sting is involved with 2-21-11 It will give him a opportunity to wrestle for HIS favorite fans... Children.

It would mean everything.

It would mean he stayed true to his convictions of not wanting to work for the monopoly man simply because he just so happened to buy the video library of the company he built from the ground up.

It would mean he stayed true to his convictions of wanting to continue helping the only company he continued to build from the ground up when he joined them in 2003.

It would mean he found more to be proud of in potentially ending his infamous career in a "second rate" company instead of appeasing a glut of fans who he owes absolutely nothing to by joining the company many of them have blindly followed for years despite their incessant accusations that TNA's fans blindly follow TNA.

It would mean he didn't want to appease that same group who a portion of likely never even watched him wrestle (consistently) to begin with.

It would mean he didn't want to appease that same group who a portion of only want to see him in WWE as one last "fuck you" to TNA because their own selfish pride couldn't understand how a performer as iconic as Steve Borden could possibly say no to the WWE bubble.

And above all else it would mean he found more value in continuing his legacy where he actually built it and continued to build it than in some empty one-way ticket to a Hall-of-Fame he has no business actually being in considering he never wrestled for that company, regardless of wether the guy with the monocle happens to own the WCW video library.

Not saying that at all. However, things, and people, change. There is a new demographic in the WWE Universe. So Sting should fault the children for Vince's past? Doesn't go with his belief system.

It would mean he stayed true to his convictions of wanting to continue helping the only company he continued to build from the ground up when he joined them in 2003.

Helping, which he did, and beating a dead horse, which he would be doing, are two very different things.

It would mean he found more to be proud of in potentially ending his infamous career in a "second rate" company instead of appeasing a glut of fans who he owes absolutely nothing to by joining the company many of them have blindly followed for years despite their incessant accusations that TNA's fans blindly follow TNA.

How do you know how many older WWE fans were and were not WCW and Sting fans? Professional wrestling as a whole takes both sides into consideration, and since he's already been there for the TNA side there's no reason he shouldn't be there for the WWE fan side as well.

It would mean he didn't want to appease that same group who a portion of likely never even watched him wrestle (consistently) to begin with.

See above.

It would mean he didn't want to appease that same group who a portion of only want to see him in WWE as one last "fuck you" to TNA because their own selfish pride couldn't understand how a performer as iconic as Steve Borden could possibly say no to the WWE bubble.

Nobody said they wanted to tell TNA "fuck you". I have heard quite a bit of people saying "Fuck WWE" and "Fuck Vince", though.

And above all else it would mean he found more value in continuing his legacy where he actually built it and continued to build it than in some empty one-way ticket to a Hall-of-Fame he has no business actually being in considering he never wrestled for that company, regardless of wether the guy with the monocle happens to own the WCW video library.

If he found more value in someplace he actually built, he would be a part of the "E" where that company he 1st built now resides, and would go back home to Atlanta where he built it.

There is so much more to it than Vince. There are multitudes of fans that are part of WWE that know and watched Sting. Law of averages. I'm one of them, so I know they exist. But for him to go back? He's already given those fans what they wanted. Now it's the other side's turn.

Also, it's funny you say he shouldn't work for Vince simply because he bought out WCW, owns the video vault, etc. etc., and some people say because of what Vince did to the WCW talent.

Let me ask you this? Why does it make sense to hold a grudge for so long against a guy that bought his old company, but NOT against the guys who sold out that same company and ran it into the ground? You know, the ones currently running TNA?? They hurt and wronged waaaay more WCW talent than Vince ever thought about. They buried waaaaay more WCW talent if we want to get technical.

And what about accessibility? A poster above mentioned TNA being like WWE used to be, and is more "adult oriented", which is true, and what Sting despised about WWE and kept him from going in the first place. Why would he "sell out" to his beliefs just because of his animosity towards Vince? And doesn't the Bible preach forgiveness? Second chances? Not saying he would site religion again, but if he did, how could he not see that he would be going against it that way as well?

I've been a wrestling fan since i was ten years old...WCW,WWE, the original ECW. Sting will be remembered for his time in WCW more than anything else. I've tried to watch TNA i really have but its just bad...I'm sure the guy is about to hang up the boots for good and he needs to do it in a place where they can actually do something big, where they can make it seem meaningful...i know the product in WWE isn't much to brag about. but its still the big time and that's where Sting, one of the all time greats, should have his final run. If he signs out in TNA then who's gonna care? Who's gonna see it? WWE may be for kids, but its guys like me who watch it with our kids that would love to see one of our heroes ride out into the sunset on the top "wrestling" show in the world.

I want to start by saying nice response with passion. I appreciate and respect your opinion. I do have issue with certain parts though.

It would mean he stayed true to his convictions of wanting to continue helping the only company he continued to build from the ground up when he joined them in 2003.

When the Stinger did this I believe it was only 4 times he showed in 2003. Mr. Borden did not start building or really contributing until 2006.

It would mean he didn't want to appease that same group who a portion of likely never even watched him wrestle (consistently) to begin with.

I would say a large portion of us WWE fans are former WCW fans as well. Yes it is largely children who are current WWE fans, but a lot of us know who Sting was and probably were bigger fans of WCW back in the day than the WWF. A lot of us knew who Sting was as "The Crow guy" are still watching to this day and are not THAT clueless as to who the man called Sting is.

It would mean he didn't want to appease that same group who a portion of only want to see him in WWE as one last "fuck you" to TNA because their own selfish pride couldn't understand how a performer as iconic as Steve Borden could possibly say no to the WWE bubble.

At the same time it would be selfish pride for TNA fans to not to see the Stingers legacy expand to a new and different audience. If Borden never went to TNA and went to WWE instead we would probably be having different appeals on this forum.

On a flip side as well Sting has done a LOT in TNA. You can never take away the fact TNA can do well with the veterans in terms of championships, hyping, merch, etc. They dont have the shHhovel over there after all. However, I do think that his time there lacked that bit of oomph from his WCW days. I was overall disappointed by his run there.

Have a good one if I dont see ya sir! LETS GO STINGER!

This is what I was referring to. Seeing a hero ride out into the sunset on top, WITH the younger generation. To be able to share in the moment of Sting getting a huge send-off, with some of the other greats of the profession that are still part of the WWE, with the kids so that his legacy can have a nice, final chapter and one that would be enjoyed, not only by the older fans, but by the younger ones that are a part of it with them.

Very nice, and to the point. Similar to what the Rock said. It's not the money, it's not the WWE, but the fans. ALL of them. Including the ones that watch WWE as well. (And the older fans have to exist, because if none of the older fans were present, Rocky wouldn't have gotten the pop he did from all the people that grew up watching him too.)

And that is one of the main reasons it would mean more for Sting to go to the WWE instead of going back to TNA.

You completely missed the point of this thread. It has absolutly nothing to do with Sting going to the WWE. I pointed out why people wanted him to go to the WWE so I wasn't accused of being a hypocrite, but said "Nevertheless, this is about Sting going to TNA"

Everything you said about Sting as a man is true. However, you didn't point out one thing it would mean to TNA as a company. I asked what would change in TNA. I asked who would he feud with. I asked what they could do with his character to make it fresh and meaningful in 2011 after numerous hints at retirement.

Would the return of Sting to TNA give the ratings a boost? Would it actually make fans want to order PPV's? Would he be able to make an impact in the current storyline?

I don't think he would have an impact on any of these things, and you certainly didn't do anything to disagree or agree with me. You did the most typical fucking thing anyone could do on this site. Someone said something about TNA that didn't make them out to be Gods gift to wrestling, and you responded by saying "fuck the WWE and all there stupid mark fans that don't appriciate him, the WWE sucks and so does Vince McMahon". Your post had absolutley nothing to do with the discussion, and was insted just a painfully typical "TNA rocks, WWE sucks" rant.

In my opinion, Sting returning to TNA would mean absolutely nothing. Sting has already been a multi time World Champion in TNA, he's been a consistent main event presence for virtually his entire time in TNA so what exactly is really left for him to do? TNA's not just going to stick him in the mid-card scene or job him out so there's just no real accomplishment that's realistically left for Sting there.

The reason so many people have been excited about the possibility of Sting coming to the WWE is that it just feels kind of fresh. Sting is the biggest name in wrestling to have never worked for the WWE and a match between him & Taker would have an epic feel to it. Even though both of them are well past their primes, it'd have an amazing feel to it. Both have been standard bearers and locker room leaders of the two biggest wrestling companies in the world, both are almost universally respected. For wrestling fans, it'd be like Odin vs. Zeus.

Not saying that at all. However, things, and people, change. There is a new demographic in the WWE Universe. So Sting should fault the children for Vince's past? Doesn't go with his belief system.

Your WWE's spokesmen right?

Helping, which he did, and beating a dead horse, which he would be doing, are two very different things.
There is no dead horse to beat. Undertaker has been beating dead horses. Nobody is looking at his retirement yet right? He's still competing for titles and going on vacations or AARP check ins for injuries.

Sting has still a few moments and matches he hasn't completed with TNA yet.

How do you know how many older WWE fans were and were not WCW and Sting fans? Professional wrestling as a whole takes both sides into consideration, and since he's already been there for the TNA side there's no reason he shouldn't be there for the WWE fan side as well.

Because he wants to not be in WWE? How hard is that to understand? He is not going because he has his own values that he respects. He built tons of relationships within TNA's company. He is not looking to leave.

Nobody said they wanted to tell TNA "fuck you". I have heard quite a bit of people saying "Fuck WWE" and "Fuck Vince", though.
Because they were frustrated on how he treats his employees, Perhaps?

If he found more value in someplace he actually built, he would be a part of the "E" where that company he 1st built now resides, and would go back home to Atlanta where he built it.
Wow. Your reaching there, stretch armstrong.

He built WCW. It's dead. WWE owning it has no effect on it since it's dead. He's not looking to re-marry with WWE to pretend it's WCW all over again.
There is so much more to it than Vince. There are multitudes of fans that are part of WWE that know and watched Sting. Law of averages. I'm one of them, so I know they exist. But for him to go back? He's already given those fans what they wanted. Now it's the other side's turn.
Your an obsessed one with it, that's for sure. Law of averages say, he would have signed if he actually gave a rats ass about WWE.

Also, it's funny you say he shouldn't work for Vince simply because he bought out WCW, owns the video vault, etc. etc., and some people say because of what Vince did to the WCW talent.
It's beyond that.

Fail. WCW died because of Turner and the AOL merger. The WCW product was not doing well but there is no indication that states it could have changed for the better if WCW did not get shut down by an executive that did not feel Pro-Wrestling belonged on TNT and TBS.

Using "buried" talent as a reason for Steve to keep a good relationship with his former WCW buddies is tired, old and stupid considering he spent a year working with them with no problems.

Sting was pretty much done with TNA until they signed Hogan and he convinced him to re-join the company. Which he did.

Are you really that desperate to question his own religion because he works for a company that is "violent" compared to a "Soft Kiddy" promotion? REALLY?

Honestly, folks...Do people REALLY care about Sting? The only reason he's even such a hot topic is because of the 2-21-11 promo. Everyone got excited at the idea of seeing him in a WWE ring for the first time ever. The truth is, no one is worth anything, unless they are in the WWE. It's a fact. Not necessarily one that I want to be true - but it IS true.

Sting has been in TNA since the beginning, and what exactly has he done? Has he really contributed to establishing any of the younger talent in TNA? No. He's feuded with Jeff Jarrett 350 times, and that's about it. Has his affiliation with the company created a huge spike in their ratings? Absolutely not.

Sting is a 51 year old man, who's best days were over a decade ago. Personally, I was a huge Sting fan in the late 80's and early 90's. I am not a fan of "Crow" Sting. I wasn't then, and I'm not now. No one really ever understood how to book this character, and Sting is just an inconsistant mess, who gets by on nostalgia from the nWo days. He has never, ever been able to cut a great promo. And the only way he's been able to draw a dime in this business, was when he was opposite Flair or Hogan. And working with those 2 in their prime - could have made anyone.

In TNA, one minute he's a heel, the next he's a face. One minute he's Sting, the next he's Steve Borden. And he's been teasing his retirement for about 7 years now. Sting's run in TNA has been a complete joke. I can't think of one memorable thing Sting has done in TNA since he got there.

The truth of the matter is, the only thing that Sting could do at this point in his career to make people actually care about him - is go to the WWE. I think the fact that people are even talking about him right now, proves that.

People want to see him in a WWE ring, because it's never been done. They want to see him vs. Undertaker - not because it's going to be a 5 star, classic (because it wouldn't), but because it's never been done.

The WWE was able to get more people talking about Sting, with a 1 minute promo...than TNA has been able to do in his entire run with the company.

It just goes to show you, once again....no one is worth a damn thing in the wrestling industry, unless they are working for Vince McMahon. Until there are major changes in TNA, that will always be the case.

Nope because there is nobody left in TNA and nothing left in TNA for Sting. Sting needs to finally stop being a ****** and sign with WWE. Sting will have it made in WWE, and why is it so hard for Steve Borden to understand? Come on Steve you are not afraid of the cancer of the WWE HHH are you?

Sting's crow gimmick is great....you wanted this man to have the cheesy surfer gimmick his entire career. He had to move on with the times, that gimmick was so 1980s and early 90s. Late 90s during a time people were sick of that kinda crap he became the crow Sting. Surfer Sting would even look silly and lame today, that gimmick should be left in the 80s and early 90s.
