Would anyone like to see Alex Wright (Berlyn) come to WWE?

Charismatic Enigma

Grand Slam Champion
I just finished listening to a recent interview with him, that's currently linked on the main page of WZ, and I gotta say after hearing it, I would love to see him have a run in WWE.

I was always a big fan of his in ring work, and really thought the Berlyn character had huge potential, but he debuted it in a period of WCW where the inmates were running the asylum and backstage politics basically killed it off. In today's PG era though, having a stylish gothic character, who speaks German, and is a heel through and through (unlike most of the tweeners WWE currently has) I think he could really do well. He currently owns a school and manages a promotion in Germany but according to the interview he said he'd be open to the idea if WWE wanted him.

He started off in the business so young, he definitely still has some gas left in the tank at only 35 years old, and having already wrestled in several major promotions all over the world, he could really bring some experience and legitimate competition for guys like Bryan and Ziggler who are generally unmatched as far as technical ability goes at the moment.

Thoughts, opinions?

Alex Wright doesn't have a place in the WWE right now.

He may have been slightly relevant back in WCW when he was teaming with Disco Inferno and there would be no sense in bringing him in because of him being in WCW as I don't think there would be a lot of people who would recognise or remember him.

If Vince is going to be bringing in older Superstars, he's going to be bringing in the big ones (Ala Rock, Hart), not the Alex Wright's of professional wrestling. I can see where you're coming from, but no.

Agreed with Richard.

This is a guy that had a very minimal effect on North American wrestling a decade ago. I can't see a push for a return gathering any legs, especially with WWE not hiring guys that don't know how to work WWE style / aren't big names unless they are under 30.

Personally, I'd love to see it. I was always a fan of his work and never thought he went as far as he deserved... Though the goth gimmick (prelude to Berlyn) might have done better if not for Columbine, that's something I guess we'll never really know for sure.

More objectively, i don't see it. He certainly doesn't bring enough star power, and I don't know how he could really be used. he'd make a good agent, but I doubt he'd move back from Germany or that.

Maybe one of his students will do well enough to warrant signing one day though.

Sure, why not? He's a skilled, veteran wrestler that would also be a new face... to most. There is no salary cap in wrestling so no risk if you have to let him go for lack of response or personal issues or whatever else may occur. To most people these days he would just be another guy and if he still has IT in the ring... great! To us that remember him from WCW days will compare him from 10 years ago and what have you.... positive or negative... doesn't really matter. As long as he is still a good worker in the ring there is no risk at all. Nothing wrong with a veteran joining wrestlings midcard again. Give the guy a chance and at the very least his German Dancing gimmick could grab heat for a few months. Once again... why not?

But thats just one mans opinion -TDub

I think this would work, especially with the European guys WWE has right now... We have loads of Brits... it seems logical to have some Germans in there too...

I think he could do a good arrogant heel role, not the dancing fool... his look these days is pretty strong too... At worst bring him in as a manager for someone.

I was never a fan of Alex Wright, but I did find his in-ring work to be solid. He was at his best in '98 from what I can remember. I don't think the WWE is a place for him though. Sure, the Berlyn character could be a refreshing gimmick, but after a few matches with mid-card faces I honestly see him getting the Dave Taylor treatment. At best he'd probably get an Intercontinental title shot. TNA might be more fitting for him.

I have no issues with Alex Wright, but that would be incredibly random from WWE. As others have said, 95% of the viewers will have no idea who he is, so he brings no star power to the table. So all that is left is his talent. But why try to create a new star who is 35 years old, when you can find a 25 year old with the same talent and who has years more left to give?

If WWE had any interest in Alex Wright, he would have been brought in about a decade ago. That ship has sailed. I could see them bringing in Disco Inferno before Alex Wright, because at least he was in TNA for awhile.

Ten years ago Alex Wright did not make a difference in professional wrestling. Why would he make a difference now? As much as I love his ridiculous dance, I'm not going to get nostalgic over it. He didn't have the talent a decade ago. I'm sure he hasn't improved.

I would like to see alex wrestle now.. i dont think he'd be any good on the mic but he'd sure make up for it in the ring.. besides there is no one in wrestling that is good on the mic anymore. i think Wright can actually bring credibility back to the intercontinental title..

You're a bit too early for April Fools man, you surely have to be kidding.

How can Alex Wright bring back credibility to the Intercontinental Championship?

For someone to bring back credibility to it, they would have to be a big name and 99/100 fans these days don't even know who Alex Wright is. You have to remember who WWE loves to target, kids, my brother is 12 and I asked him before who Alex Wright was, he didn't know. So lets say Alex Wright does hold the Intercontinental Championship, 99/100 people won't know who he is and since they wont know who he is, they won't see him as a credible wrestler compared to if they saw Triple H or Randy Orton win the Intercontinental Championship. They will just think some no name came in and picked up the championship, much like Santino debuting and randomly winning it.

Alex Wright would be a terrible idea to bring back, he wouldn't bring credibility to anything. Vince wouldn't even waste his time bringing him in for commentary or Tough Enough. He never ammounted to much in WCW except a lousy team with Disco Inferno, sub par reigns as crusierweight, tv and tag champion.
