They are always a dark-horse in those competitions and they have João Moutinho, Fábio Coentrão, Pepe, Nani and Ronaldo to hold the forth. Nani hasn't been the same, but he can come up with a rabbit out of the hat.

They haven't actually qualified for a tournament since 2002 but that kind of explains where they are now. After 2002, they essentially ripped up their whole youth system and started again. It's taken this long for it to start producing.
