Will the Big Show have the same status as Andre?

Andre is an icon..Big Show is a legend..nuff said..really though as far as in ring goes Show may be better but it deosnt matter...Andre set the bar for big men...period...if there was no Andre thered be no Show...theres a reason why his statue of him and no one else is in the front of WWE headquarters when you come in apparently...if it wasnt for Andre thered be no Hogan...I can tell theres alot of kids on these forums but man do you realize how big that is..no Andre, no Hogan...no Hogan no trickle down into guys like Cena, Bryan, Show...he was the first entity in wrestling...regardless of his abilities later on...do you compare Hogan and Cena? No..its the same principle..and actually that would be an even bigger mistake because Cena has been a main eventer for most of his career...Show has had dips and valleys...so you especially cant compare the two...the only comparison is size

I don't think Big Show can be blamed, its the WWE writers and bookers who put him in the roles, matches, and gimmicks he's in. If Andre was wrestling in this current era it would be the same exact deal for Andre, and that's what people miss.

The good the bad, between the two though;

Big Show:
+ wrestling
+ talker
+ bumps
- size
- booked too much
- Raws are now more like 1980s PPVs/SNME's weekly
+ we get to see him wrestle more often
+ extremely talented in the mid 90s
+ it factor in the mid 90s
+ had the look of a champion in the mid 90s
- bad booking, worse storylines, short feuds > the current generation

Andre:
- wrestling
- talker
- bumps
+ size
+ brilliant booking in 1987 only wrestling 3 matches on tv?
- only seen in a match maybe once a month to once every 7 months
- we didn't get to see him in many matches in the 80s
+ very skilled wrestler in the 70s
+ better booking, better storylines, long lasting feuds > the 80s

So it can really go either way, I'm a big fan of Andre and what he did in the 80s, but it being a totally different time in wrestling really makes the difference, I mean hell look at the top of the company at the top dog Cena, Andre never went through a rapper gimmick, and Andre never went thought fans chanting YOU SUCK, or CENA SUCKS, or LETS GO CENA, CENA SUCKS. And neither did Hogan, Warrior, or Savage, let alone Andre, just a different time in wrestling.

When its all said and done, and Big Show is done with wrestling for good, and we no longer have a big guy that size in the WWE, so long as someone else that's over 7' and 400lbs doesn't come around, guys should be looking back at the ladder matches hes been in the last couple of years and you'll be amazed at what he did. I know Andre use to jump off the top of a cage back in the 70s and maybe early 80s when he wasn't so big, but at Big Shows current age hes still doing it, cant say Andre was. Big Show is at 41 years old now, he was in those ladder matches in his late 30s, Andre in his late 30s was only wrestling a couple of times a year on tv (1987 Andre would be 37 years old) mean while 37 years old for Big Show he was wrestling on a weekly basis a good chunk of the year.

"I believe when its all over he will have surpassed Andre not in status or legend, But as a performer and a wrestler" he already did. big show overall is a much better performer than andre ever was. no question about it. we all know the answer to why big show will never have the same status as andre and some of you wrote it already so Im not gonna write it again. how about this, would andre be a bigger star than big show if he was wrestling right now?

wasnt the first line you a quote that was made in reference to Undertaker not Big Show? In an article written or interview by JR a few months ago?
Because frankly, show doesn't have the charisma of andre and certainly not the talent if you could compare then when they were young and healthy.
Andre's accent and speaking patterns were much more interesting then any promo show's ever done. I a young healthy andre started at the same time as a young healthy big show, then andre would still be the better performer. during his prim, andre was limited not just by his size, but the rules and wrestling styles of the time. There were far fewer larger men in the biz for him to match against then show. His own athletic ability was forced to be downplayed as he was so much larger and stronger then the people he was working with. Remember, andre started in a very different era in terms of what was allowed to take place. There were little to no real high flyers as they are today, no ddt's, little to know 'hardcore' action, nothing like the flying kicks and body presses off the top ropes. In fact, throwing your opponent over the top was enough for a dq and so was a splash off the top rope.

One thing I feel not a lot of people take into account is that Big Show went up against much better talent and better workers than Andrè did. Andrè very rarely had to go up against top-level performers, and could only put on good matches with certain opponents. Big Show has put on great matches with Kane, Edge, Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, The Rock, Rey Mysterio, and many others. I think Big Show has the advantage in term of quality of opponents. If Andrè and Big Show had both been in their prime at the same time, I think Big Show would have been the bigger attraction. He's a better wrestler, a better talker, and I don't think Andrè's very slight size advantage would have made much of a difference.

Also, if you look at their career accomplishments, Big Show is miles beyond Andrè. Andrè was WWE Champion (for about 30 seconds) and World Tag Team Champion. Big Show has been a World Champion on seven occasions, over half a dozen Tag Team Championships, Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, Grand Slam Winner...there's very little Big Show hasn't done.

Andre is Andre. Show is great, but Andre is a legend in the non-cheap sense of the word. When you get wrestlers from that era together, they tell Andre stories, almost universally in a tone of awe.

There will not be another, nor a greater.

To the previous poster who brought up Big Shows "accomplishments" they mean nothing because when its all said and done, Andre was a draw, Big Show isnt..simple...Andre was THE draw...original..Big Show hasnt draw squat...as talented as Big Show is theres no comparison..without Andre Big Show probably wouldnt have even become a wrestler..when you kids talk about big men in the business and whos up there with Andre, go back and study some history and stop disrespecting Andre...stop talking about Big Show and throw in Undertaker...thats the only big man you can bring up in discussion of who has the greater legacy, not freaking Big Slow..gimme a break..whats next your gonna say Ryback is better than Goldberg lol smh...at the end of the day you can ask anyone on the street whos Andre the Giant and they WILL tell you who he was...Big Show, not so much

Is he a big star like Andre? of course not, but to anyone who says that he is a cheap rip-off or wannabe, then you are just ignorant. Big Show was doomed to having these evaluations about himself from the start because he is tall and big.

If he came into the business 5 years before he did or 10 years after then things would have been totally different, it was simply the fact that the fans were only a couple of years off from the Andre buzz.

I would have loved to see an Andre vs The Giant match in there primes, two athletically gifted big men going at it..... Brilliant.

Andre didn't bump - that's the flaw - he had his spots that he used, like tying himself in the ropes or the "5 man gang" to eliminate him from a Rumble. But the guy who is listing bumps as a pro for Andre was wrong - by the time he did start losing he was in so much pain that he still couldn't bump properly and would simply get clotheslined out the ring (or run out himself against Jake)

Putting people over is the thing that makes Show better in some ways but not in others, for sure he could have done Andre's "fearsome" thing and point blank refused/scared people into doing what he wanted but he's not that way.

Those dissing him need only look at his contemporaries, Khali, Silva, Kurgann and Nash... He's had more titles than Nash, Khali and Silva combined and while Kurgann is perhaps the most successful "wrestler/actor" apart from the Rock at the moment his career was bad in wrestling.

Show kept his prime going a lot longer than Andre, but that's probably BECAUSE Andre died young... it was a wake up call.

Aside for seeing Big show for Decades, I think Big Show is a close sescond to Andre in just based on What Big Show has done. his "flip flopping" has shown how versatile he is. He's had runs as face champion, heel champion, He's a triple crown winner, the only guy to win the WWE, WCW, and ECW Titles, had three recent great runs in the tag team division with The Miz, Jericho, and Kane, and at one point took out the entire Smackdown Locker Room in 5 minutes during the brand extension. while it's been said Andre's work was great for his time, Big Show's work continues to improve, and he's one of the guys that a loss doesn't hurt his character one bit, because he's the freaking Big Show. He's a sure fire hall of famer at the very least.

when i was a kid, i met andre the giant after an awa event in denver. me and some friends waited for him after the show was over. he was so kind, he talked with us for a bit then was on his way. his hands were so big.

If Andre was wrestling now while he was in his 30s or 40s, like the Big Show, Big Show would have outshined him without a shadow of a doubt. Show is way more athletic, better wrestler, better talker. Andres reminds me of The Great Khali, as in he can't move, can't talk and can't wrestle properly. I am not bashing Andre, because he revolutionized the business by being, if not the first, then one of the first giants to step foot in the business, and that was a tough spot to cover and that's why he is considered a legend. Apart from that though, I can't see how he is any better than Big Show. Having it not been for the bad writing of Show turning to face, then to heel, then again to face, Big Show would have had an amazing career. Of course, we have to realize that there are guys way more exciting and better than Show, so we shouldn't expect Show to get many more opportunities than he has already, but still, he is on the road for so many days a year, works hard, and is still going.

In my book, Show is way better overall, and the only upside Andre has is that he was the first of his kind. Apart from that, I consider it a disgrace calling Andre > Show.
