Why is Dustin better as Goldust?

I forgot that Goldust is back with WWE until I saw him the other night as one of the lumberjacks outside of the ring. (dont remember what match that was, anyway) It got me thinking about the ol' Bizarr One, and something I have always wondered about: Out of all of the years that Dustin Rhode(Runnels) has been wrestling, why is he a better wrestler as Goldust.

I have even put this theory to the test. I had some old tapes with him as Dustin Rhodes, Seven(WCW), "Religious" Dustin Rhodes(late 90's WWF/E), and Goldust. He was just boring as those characters. Not only the character, but his in-ring stuff was ok at best. But when he gets all "weirded out" as Goldust, everything seems to be elevated. Why is that? Does anybody else agree, disagree, dont care.

Please share your thoughts.

Also, I would like to see a Goldust/Cody feud at some point. Will it be made into a program, or a one-night "nobody cares" Raw match?

I think with Goldust, it just kind of opens the flood gates for how crazy and over the top he can be when under that persona, as opposed to being just Dustin Rhodes. Helps turn everything up a notch.

I think Goldust is awesome, and it's a shame he's not being used lately. Personally, I miss Tourette's Goldust! hahaha

Dustin Rhodes isn't particularly appealing to look at and isn't a top physical specimen. The Goldust gimmick gets you over that. Dustin isn't very appealing on the mic either, but as "Goldust' he's able to say anything no matter how outrageous it is. Glodust is the equivalent of putting on a mask and becoming a completely new character. It's an interesting gimmick in the sense that you can do whatever you want with it and mold him into whatever is needed at a particular time. With "Dustin" he's just a man...and an uninteresting one at that.

Did you happen to see him in TNA? He wasn't that great there, but he was especially boring as Dustin Rhodes. Then he become "Black Reign" which was essentially their Goldsust character...now it wasn't great, but it was infinitely better than him him as a "regular guy."

Dustin Rhodes was a boring character. The Natural? I've heard taht on countless indy cards. All it means is that he was decent in the ring. You can call anyone the Natural and it makes them seem good. Goldust was something very different. Anyone with slightly above average skills could pull off the Natural gimmick or lack thereof. It takes a truly talented performer to be goldust. It pushed the envelope and it was something special. Goldust is a character, Dustin Rhodes is just a wrestler.

I was the biggest Dustin Rhodes fan when he was in WCW as “The Natural” and that cool ass theme he had and the feud he had with Steve Austin, the US title run, and the bunkhouse brawl match on the back of a moving flat bed truck was awesome. Hell for years I never knew he was Goldust till the WWF revealed it on TV. But I liked him better as Dustin Rhodes as he was an ass kicking southern boy. I still wish the WWE would let him go back to being Dustin at times as it would be great to see the Rhodes Brothers as a tag team.

Dustin Rhodes suffers from the same disease that plagues Rey Mysterio -- he's ugly !!

If anyone remembers when Mysterio lost his mask in WCW, he was god awful looking. That's why he's relegated to wear the mask in WWE.

The one glaring difference between the two is that kids love Mysterio.

Goldust is just this outrageous character with no limits but I would love to see him team with Cody. Though if this were to happen, I think it would be better if Dustin performed as himself rather than Goldust. But either way I would like to see this some day. Only problem is and no disrespect to Dustin, association with him might actually hinder Cody's progress...maybe once Cody is more established, but atm Goldust is at the twighlight of his career wereas Cody is just starting out really. Maybe someday.

"...I wanted to be just me. Just me, 'cause that's what I can do: just be ME. But the Powers-That-Be... came to me and they said 'Dustin, you know... Dustin sucks. Dustin is boring.'"

I completely disagree with Mysterio wearing the mask because "he's ugly". The guy isn't that bad looking at all without the mask. He simply prefers to follow the tradition of Mexican wrestling and wearing the mask. He was vehemently against wearing a mask when Bischoff wanted him to remove it, for that same reason.

Dustin is stuck with Goldust character he has been type cast. Its like how Dustin Diamond everybody sees him as Screech and Jaleel White everybody sees him as Steve Urkel. He might have had the most success as the Goldust character but at the same time its hard to take him seriously as any other role. Whether it be Black Reign or Dustin Rhodes.
