Who's Your Favorite Female Singer?

Tarja Turunen is my favorite female singer. For those who have no idea who she is, she was the former singer in the band Nightwish. Her beautiful singing provided a style that helped the band stick out in the metal scene. Nearly every Nightwish fan prefer her over the new singer, and within good reason. Her vocals cannot be replicated. Their cover of Phantom of the Opera is a great example of Tarja doing what she does best.

I generally don't even like this style of singing that much, but when I discovered Nightwish a couple of years ago she completely won me over as my favorite female singer, she is incredibly talented and the band (while still amazing) is just not the same entity without her.

Big fan of Nightwish. Haven't listened to them in a while, buy my ex and I used to rock them in the car all the time. You're right, she has an amazing voice - I completely forgot about her/them.

I'm somewhat hesitant to name her my favourite female singer, as I'm really only basing it off of one album, but it is a tremendous album. The album is Blue and the singer is Joni Mitchell.

The first time I heard a song from this album, my sister, her friend and I were driving through some woods and her song 'All I Want' was a track of a mixed cd my sister had made. It sounded like a cheap and unpolished kind of recording which made me think it was some local singer my sister may have known, but the combination of the voice and lyrics just blew me away.
The rest of the album is fantastic too mainly due to the sense of ease that comes from Joni. Yes she may be dealing with some touchy and personal subjects, but at least she's honest about it.

Not sure that I would say she's my favorite, but it's one that I've been listening to regularly lately. The lead singer of Dutch Symphonic Rock Band Nemesea. Manda Ophuis.

Wow, can't believe I forgot about Ann Wilson. Heart imo are the female Led Zeppelin capable of writing hard rockers (Barracuda), intricate acoustic pieces () and then putting it all together (Crazy on You). In addition to Ann though I would have to say Heart wouldn't have been as great if not for her sister Nancy who is probably up their in the top 5 of greatest female guitarists. Their album Dreamboat Annie is probably my most listened to vinyl. Seriously, you cannot hear Soul of the Sea (2nd video) and not think of Zeppelin. Wonderful floating guitars and Ann's voice just gliding over it, great stuff.

If we're talking female metal singers, I don't think anyone touches the Arch Enemy girl. I've seen her live a few times and was dumbstruck at how that voice comes out of that body.

I take your "Arch Enemy girl" and raise you one Alyssa White-Gluz. She shits all over this girl from Arch Enemy. I used to be on your side, until I discovered this band. She goes from screaming, to singing, to Swan Lake. Here, lets have a look.

You want variation? You've got it. I can't fault Alyssa, ever.

I must confess, I really love Adele. Her voice is so powerful. I really like the lyrics to her songs as well; particularly "Set Fire to the Rain".
