Who is John Cena going to face at Wrestlemania?

rge2010

Mid-Card Championship Winner
With Mania 32 set to break all records, or WWE hoping it will one would think their poster boy would have to be in a marquee match up.

The last two Mania's Cena has dropped down the card and faced off against 'up and comers' in Bray Wyatt and Rusev, but surely a big name like Cena needs that big opponent for the biggest Mania to date.

He has already faced Rock at two Mania's, he has also had a feud with Lesnar that is still fresh in the mind, Triple H looks like he will be busy with Rock, a feud with Taker wouldn't make a lot of sense now given the streak has ended, although it is still a big mania match we have never seen, Sting could potentially be involved with Taker so that rules him out, seen Cena vs Rollins too many times on Raw for it to 'sell' and the new kid on the block Kevin Owens is currently feuding with him.

That leaves two opponents in my opinion:

Roman Reigns
I do think this would have to be for the title in order for it to REALLY mean something but these are the two biggest babyfaces on the roster right now and it could potentially be a 'passing the torch' match.

Hulk Hogan
There are a lot of wrestling snobs out there that will sneer at this but Hogan is chomping at the bit to get back in the ring and it would be his first match in WWE for over 10 years. Hogan vs Cena might not be pretty, but it tells a great story, is one of those 'big matches that never happened' and it is simply now or never. I don't care what anyone says either, this match is $$$.

Thoughts?

Hogan is too crippled to wrestle. I don't care how badly he wants to, they won't let him do more than some dumb 50 second NWO bit where he punches some guys.

Reigns could be fun, although the fans would stupidly shit all over it.

Undertaker is the match. It's THE match. I don't think Sting will be the match. I think we get that at a smaller Big 4 PPV, or not at all.

The only two guys who are WWE through and through. They did everything for WWE. Two Mt. Rushmore guys going head to head at an event they are both legendary at.

Why is this WrestleMania set to break records? Because it's in the biggest arena? There's no guarantee that WWE will sell out the show

I would love to see a Cena vs Taker match but ONLY if we get to see Taker during the feud on at least several RAW episodes. I don't want to see another feud like his with Bray last year or have him only show up once or twice along the way. He doesn't necessarily have to be on every week but I'd like to see him show up more frequently.

It's almost impossible to say who he'll be facing at WM32 because we need to see what the company plans to do with Cena after he (presumably) loses his US title to Kevin Owens at 'Battleground.'

Do they plan to leave Cena on the midcard, trying to get the belt back from Owens in the months following his loss? Will he be returned to main event level to battle the people up there, including some stabs at the world title? Are they planning to involve him in another special project-type program such as the one he's been involved in these past months with the US title?

Until we know, I couldn't hazard a guess as to what he'll be doing at WM32.

One thing: even while many folks on this forum still claim 'Cena never loses,' WWE has certainly had him boosting the careers of others by losing to them in the past couple years. To that end, I don't know that a WM32 match against Undertaker would be particularly appealing because I don't think 'Taker is going to lose his match..... nor would it be very appealing to have Cena lose still another match to someone who doesn't really benefit from having beaten him.

On the other hand, if Cena turns heel, a contest against 'Taker might prove to be an entirely different story.

If Hogan is cleared to w restle, Cena vs Hogan is a lock. There's no better opponent for Hogan, one face of an era vs another.

I always wanted to see Undertaker vs John Cena happening at Wrestlemania and I'm suprised that such a big moneymaker match hasn't yet taken place. Well, with Rock's return maybe there was never the right moment for the match to happen. Anyway. Cena vs Undertaker is the match for me. However, there's a problem.. When two faces are collinding there must be something on the line, like a title, or else the story doesn't make sense. The streak is not there, so the WWE should have to come up with a convincing story. Maybe a career vs career match? But that's not fot the WWE to decide, it's for The Undertaker to decide. Maybe Cena (or Taker) challenge each other, in order for each man to prove that they still have what it takes. Cena for one, not being a main-eventer anymore and Taker, seeking back his pre-streak-break self. I don't know.

If not that. I don't think there's anybody on the current roster. Roman Reigns.. Again, why would these two collide if there's anything on the line, or if somebody from these two isn't a heel? I don't see either man turning heel, yet. Maybe a US Championship match? Although I believe that their match should be saved for a future WWE Championship match. And right now, after last year's Rumble fiasco, giving Cena a third Rumble, or giving Cena a 16th world title reign and giving Reigns a back-to-back Rumble victory, would anger a lot of people.

He could always face a random heel. If that's the case, then give him Ambrose, if he's ever going to turn again.

The match with Hogan sounds intriguing on paper, but on the stage, it would look horrible. Can Hogan even take an AA with that back?

Another match and feud that would be interesting, would be Samoa Joe vs Cena. The top dog of the WWE versus the man that has been the top dog anywhere he went (ROH, TNA, NXT).

To sum up, the big money-maker and my personal preference, is Undertaker vs Cena.

The obvious one you're forgetting.

Dean Ambrose. They've been saving it. Remember when they first fought? They're little face on face feud ended with an "on the pole" match. No real winning. Ambrose was bring protected.

Now you're thinking, Ambrose is nobody now. That may be true but give it some build.

Plus the obvious reason I saw why they were saving it. The cross promotional booking. Ambrose is Batman. Cena is Superman. The Superman Vs Batman movie comes out before Mania. Will be in everyone's faces.

Think about it.

John Cena w/Nikki Bella challenges WWE WHC Daniel Bryan w/Brie Bella.

It is a rematch of a past epic SummerSlam moment. This time Bryan takes the title in a shocker at the Rumble. Later that night Cena wins the Rumble. It is the Modern Day People's Champion against the Legend Chasing the Record. They form a sort of Mega Powers teaming together at Fast Lane. During some point in the story the girls get involved. In the end Nikki leads Cena to turn at 32 and takes the title. Eventually they run Bryan and Brie back to their hippie farm.

They had a match the night after Wrestlemania this year. Cena went over clean.

Consider this: The past two years he's faced Bray Wyatt and Rusev. Were either of these guys on the main roster during the previous year's Wrestlemania? The answer is no, they weren't. So you have to consider NXT guys as well. I saw Samoa Joe given as a potential opponent and while I personally don't think it's a marquee match, I'm sure it would be off the chain and would welcome it. Finn Balor, maybe?

I'm with you guys on Taker, though. That's definitely a match I want to see.

Reigns Vs. John Cena is a Wrestlemania main event for sure but it is not the match which should go on this year. The reason behind it is simple:
1) I see Reigns Vs. Cena as a final match or show closer where Cena drops a title to Roman which is symbolic of the passing of the torch.
2) The Shield Triple Threat would be an awesome match to finally happen at Wrestlemania this year.

My match for who Cena faces depends a lot on if one many is able to return by then..Daniel Bryan. I don't know why but I feel like this match needs to happen at Wrestlemania this year maybe even for a secondary title and a win against Cena would keep Daniel Bryans amazing Wrestlemanias going.

Now considering that Bryan isn't able to return for a match by then my choice - which may not be peoples choice - is for John Cena to face a heel Dolph Ziggler.

I think the time to push Dolph has come and gone but he can still be a big star. I think getting a big mania match WIN against John Cena could do wonders for him.

If Taker wouldn't have lost to Lesnar, THE match to get 100,000 people would've been Cena vs Undertaker. But now, I'd say it's have to be a passing the torch match of Cena vs Reigns.

What I would like to see happen:

Roman Reigns

By this time Reigns is a legit bad-ass heel, We all saw the potential of how tough he can really be in his match against Lesnar, and ive always thought he had more of a mean smug heel look anyways, He could use the lines of "its not a passing of the torch, im beating Cena lifeless and taking the torch" .

Samoa Joe

Maybe Joe can reference TNA? Maybe VKM will allow it to sell the match? The franchise of TNA vs. The franchise of WWE.

What will probably happen..

Randy Orton

Two big names that have fought thousands of times, i could see this being booked.

Shemeus

Because god hates me

Hogan vs. Cena? Do you not realize the condition Hogan is in? Now or never was the mindset 5 year's ago, it's never going to happen. Taker vs. Cena is probably the best option even though i'm not too intrigued by that match, it would be huge for them, everybody else Cena can face would be rehashing old feuds. He's faced everyone there is to face, Roman Reigns could work but he should stay babyface since he's becoming so over lately, something they've wanted since before the Royal Rumble, unless they have a face vs. face program, they don't do that very often though.

if daniel bryan does have another run in him, then he must turn heel, shave his head, and bring that 2004 roh attitude where it was now or never, do or die, time to climb, brutally beat and defeat, tap or.. tap and snap everything in his path to the championship.
and i also would want 2016 to be a strong heel year for Dolph..

my choice is a one night only tournament not seen since WM4.. i know most of us hated it besides savage, but thats because it was booked to be Savage's show.. this should be STRATEGIC BOOKING, so we can get NUMEROUS MUST SEE BATTLES.. like CENA vs UNDERTAKER, BROCK vs Reigns 2, Bryan vs Rollins, add in ambrose, owens, ziggler or who ever is top notch then..
you can get numerous great 20 min matches, and give all but final a 20 or 30 min time limit so A. guys dont get over worked, B. u dont need a victory to finish the match..

i feel like most of you reading this are trained to hate this idea, as WM needs that one main event marquee match to put asses in seats.. and it should stand alone. but simply put that match in round 1.. if u put it in further rounds chance of it not happening due to injury from earlier round.
again, just imagine the possibilities.. GO AHEAD, some one create some DREAM BRACKETS with winners, so you see what booking who to fight, first and win then creates a 2nd MAIN EVENT DREAM MATCH.. like if CENA beats taker & reigns beats brock you can get Reigns vs Cena..

and my pick for a must see match is if healthy, BRYAN vs LESNAR. finally. or joe vs lesnar.. those guys would hit even harder than roman & brock did..
or atleast see bryan vs lesner earlier..

what say you?

gotta admit, its different. and gives SO MUCH MORE

In my opinion, there are only two lucrative box office matches available to Cena that would help to ultimately sell out the 100,000+ AT&T stadium in Texas:

John Cena vs The Undertaker.

or

John Cena vs Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Cena has yet to face The Undertaker on a major PPV, and for this match to be one of the headliners, two of the biggest names of all time---that's $$$$ written all over it.

As for Stone Cold, we got a little tease from him earlier in the year about a possible match with Brock Lesnar, but let's face it guys---Brock wrestles such a brutal, physical match and i for one, would cringe after every vicious suplex Austin would take from The Beast, and it just would not be a safe or smart match for Austin to partake in.

But for Austin to have one final match, in his home state, versus a big marquee name in John Cena (who wrestles a somewhat safer style than Brock)---a real 'once in a lifetime' dream match----this would no doubt put asses in the seat and blow the roof off the stadium

My guess would be that WWE have a couple of scenarios planned, and it all depends on how healthy Daniel Bryan is (I don't know why, and I'm probably wrong, but I just have a feeling that he's in a better state than we are led to believe)

IF Bryan is healthy, then he is taking the WWE World title at Wrestlemania, after winning the Royal Rumble. This is the one match with the 'modern' stars that will get 100k rocking inside Cowboys Stadium. All other matches will be based around this one.

IF however he is not healthy, then it opens up many other options, one of which is Cena matching Ric Flair's 16 world titles. Because let's face it, if Cena is ever going to match Flair's tally, it will more than likely be at Wrestlemania.

Other variables: WWE is clearly positioning the Shield as the modern-day Rock (Reigns), Stone Cold (Ambrose) and Triple H (Rollins) - BUT I just don't see a Shield triple threat happening yet.

The Undertaker will hand pick his opponent as I imagine, whether he retires or not, he will enter the Hall of a Fame in Dallas; Cena is an option, but I don't think 'Taker will choose him unless Vince gets very persuasive.

I actually think that the Shield will individually face Cena, Bryan (if healthy) and 'Taker. I just can't decide which ex-Shield member faces who, but I would be inclined to suggest Cena v Reigns, Bryan v Rollins and 'Taker v Ambrose in a no dq match.

My dream scenario for WM:

DBryan vs. Owens
WWEWHC

Rousey vs. Stephanie

HHH vs. Ambrose
(HHH and authority cost Ambrose his title against New Authority guy Owens @RR)

Rock vs. Lesnar

Cena vs. Heel Ziggler
US Title

Heel Reigns vs. Undertaker

Orton vs. Wyatt

Jericho vs. Rollins
IC Title

Cesaro/Kidd vs. New Day
TagTeam Titles

Paige vs. Charlotte in an X-rated scissorfight on preshow.

Rusev wins ATGMBRoyal on preshow.

I got my fingers crossed but I think he'll face Stone Cold. It's probably the biggest drawing match they could do involving Cena and Austin.

I actually just started a thread discussing how WM32 can break the attendance record. IMO if he's capable of wrestling, Hogan vs Cena should be a lock. Not to say it's a match I'd be invested in (I'd rather see Cena wrestle a banana) but to sell out the stadium? That's the way to go. If Hogan's out, my pick would be Samoa Joe. I think they could have a good rivalry.

At this point it is so clear an obvious it will be Roman Reigns vs. John Cena (c) for the WWE World Heavyweigh Championship. I have been saying that since Royal Rumble anyways that this would be the match and the main event for WrestleMania 32. Now it is just coming togeher. Cena expected to win the WWE WHC at SummerSlam or Night Of Champions. Roman will more than likely win the Royal Rumble again. There we got a huge dream match.

The only question in there is does Cena turn heel? and when does the turn happen?
