Who innovated the Pump Handle Slam?

Pre-Show Stalwart
I'm curious to find out who innovated the Pump Handle Slam.

The earlist confirmed occuerence of the move that i know of was when Jerry Sags delivered it to Scott Steiner at Halloween Havoc 1990.

However i also vauge recollection of Scott Steiner doing it while watching a load of WCW's weekly shows such as WCW pro & WCW Saturday Night from 1989 to 1991 on Dailymotion about 6 months ago & I'm kicking myself for not noting the date of the show he did it.

I wouldn't put it past Scott Steiner innovating the Pump Handle Slam since he innovated the Frankensteiner, Steiner Screwdriver, Standing Moonsault Slam, Tilt A Whirl Slam, Double Underhook Powerbomb, T-Bone Suplex, Top Rope Overhead Belly To Belly Suplex, Super Samoan Drop & various tag team manoeuvres such as the Electric Chair Top Rope DDT & Electric Chair Top Rope Diving Bulldog.

Basically I want to know if I can add the Pump Handle Slam to the list of confirmed moves I know Scott Steiner innovated.

Back in the late 80's he did it first in Mexico, he was a heck of a wrestler, great technician in the ring and was a jam up guy, who are you to doubt El Dandy?

El Dandy might have been the winner of a Lou Ferrigno lookalike contest but he definitely wasn't the innovator of the Pump Handle Slam.

Don't know for sure but first name that pops into my head is Scott Steiner. I don't know if I remember that from somewhere or what, but it rings a bell. Also Scott was throwing suplexes around when the majority of fans didn't even know what the hell a suplex was. If Scott Steiner didn't innovate the Pump Handle Slam, he definitely introduced it to North American wrestling.

I want to say I saw Tracy Smothers do it in WCW but I have no idea if he was copying off Steiner or not. I would have to say given the type of move it is, it looks like something a jacked high impact move using wrestler would come up with.

Everything that I can find online points more to Jerry Sags than Scott Steiner. It was a frequent move of Sags, and you can find plenty of videos with him using it. Given that the Steiners and the Nasty Boys fought early in their careers, I'm not surprised Scott incorporated it into his arsenal.

I think it was Steiner... he used it pretty much from his debut and along with a lot of his other moves I can well believe he did come up with them.

Ultimately I guess if he claims it, and no one is disputing it then it's his... but to be fair I doubt many of the boys would question anything Scott says... they know him too well to want to get on his wrong side, to them if he wants it...it's his...
