Who has Wilpon Wrestling Group signed?

shattered dreams

Hexagonal Hedonist
This will be an exercise in idle speculation but it might be interesting. There are persistent rumors that this new theoretical wrestling company has signed one prominently featured TNA talent. It is worth mentioning many of the rumors surrounding this company seem to be contradictory as they appear to be purposely putting out misinformation while guarding heavily the real "secrets." Regardless, if this has really happened who do you think it is and why?

Well, before anything I have to serioulsy question their use of "prominent" in this case, as I'm not sure exactly what "prominent" would mean. As I'd imagine most companies would do when signing a free agent like this, I'd be inclined to believe there's a bit of fluff going on here, and said "prominent" TNA star may not even be all that prominent, or a star at all – relatively speaking, that is.

I'd imagine some of the under-utilized talent in the company would jump at the opportunity to sign elsewhere if possible – namely Homicide who (and this is pure speculation/opinion) I would presume is rather upset with how he's been used in TNA over the last year and a half.

While I agree there is likely some "fluff" going on here, I would like to think they are smarter than hyping signing homicide this way. It would backfire worse than one of Dixie Carter's tweets. I could see it not being a true star but I have a hard time believing it would be someone entirely irrelevant. The most likely compromise between these competing thought processes would be one of the "legends" currently in TNA. That would likely not be that big of a deal for TNA. Going a different route, if it was Wolfe that would make for a pretty interesting day on the messageboard.

A "prominently featured TNA talent" could be taken to mean anything. Take Homicide, who IDR brought up, for instance. Homicide cold be labled as a prominently featured TNA talent because of how TNA used him in the past. A little wordplay, some exaggeration and a bit of truth stretching can go a long way. After all, it's not as if they're being completely untruthful. Homicide could still be considered a "prominent" TNA talent, only the prominence he has is left over from years back when he was actually a relevant part of TNA.

I heard Sean Waltman on the Cowhead radio show in Tampa which he appears often earlier today. According to him he has signed with this new promotion. As well as Booker T, Rikishi, Scott Taylor, Vader and many independent wrestlers. He also said that he and Vader will be doing a lot of the booking. I'm not sure if this interview is on his web site yet, but it probably will be soon cowheadradio.com.

I doubt it would be a TNA "original", because those guys would probably be more loyal to TNA. Also, they probably aren't big enough names. It would likely be someone with WWE experience, because a wider audience would know them. I'd look at RVD, Anderson, Jeff Hardy. But, seeing as Waltman is involved, I'm going to say Kevin Nash. If the Wilpon Group offered enough money, we all know Nash would jump at it. And the whole "band" storyline has fallen apart, leaving Nash with little to do. Another guess would be Mick Foley, since he lives in the NY area & the promotion will be based in NY.

I think you mean Scott Steiner since that is what WZ reported.

not only that, supposedly he has been appointed to the Board of Directors. It came out of his mouth, so I am praying this isn't true. Can you imagine this loser in charge of anything?

If it is true, the ship is sinking before it even left the dock.

No I'm positive it was Waltman he's on the show almost everyday he's pretty much a regular on the Cowhead show. He did say Steiner was a part of it as well. I don't know if I believe Everything Waltman says, but according to him he will be on board as a wrestler and behind the scenes.

The first guy I thought was Mr Anderson. I believe Anderson only signed a one year contract with TNA and I know TNA recently signed guys like Morgan/Pope too multi year deals and I'd believe guys like Styles/Kaz have done the same.

I think the person is also going to be someone who has had success in WWE, but I don't feel it's Hardy or RVD.

If the company was smart, Anderson would be a guy they'd want. He's young enough and among the TNA guys, he's one guy you could really build around. He also just recently moved to the NY/NJ area and spends alot of time in NY acting and attending "other" types of meetings.

Atm, the company sounds like they don't have much hope though lol. And the guy probably will turn out to be someone like Mick Foley or Kevin Nash. They are promoting Scott Steiner, Booker T, Vader... and Shawn Walton is a member of their Board of Directors or w/e? Sounds like this company is desperate for any kind of name recognition and their 10-15 yrs too late.

If this brand or w/e is is ran like the New York Mets are ... God help it. Supposedly, the wilpons lost 300 million in the Madoff ponzi scheme and there are a lot of conflicting reports about it ... some say the Wilpons actually made money from it ... but if you follow the Mets, their aggressive GM is being restrained from spending ne money.

It will be Nash... only guy with legit booking experience and not doing anything worth saving for TNA...

Like it or not, he booked WCW for a long period... is perhaps the "only" TNA guy to truly have had both Vince's ears and power... Sounds like an easy sell for Nash to muppets who don't know the biz..

If I had my choice... it'd be the Jarretts... hate Jeff with a passion but they got TNA off the ground...

Most likely suspect tho... is Kurt Angle... lets face it, Jeff is shacked up with his mussus, he burned a bridge with Vince... of all the guys, he needs the way out most..

I don't know what to think about this. There has to be some sort of clause that prohibits a wrestlers to negotiate with another organization while under contract. This leads me to believe that it's got to be someone who is on a pay per appearance deal. So that probably eliminate the older veterans who I'm assuming are on salary of some sorts.

I can tell you with 99.9% certainty that it's not Angle. There is no way he'd leave for a startup company, and yes, I do believe that WWE would take him back.
