Which match would you show a UFC fan?

UFC fans always talk about "UFC is the real fights" and "WWE is fake". So if you had a friend who likes UFC but hates WWE then which WWE match would you show them to show why WWE is great. One that doesnt have a element of the match that only a smark fan would enjoy, like Mick Foley and his bag of thumbtax or John Morrison's spot monkey moments. Pick any WWE match from the past that proves WWE isnt bullshit and it is entertaining. I dont have a clue which match to pick but I would like to know if you do.

Pick a match, telly why...

Hmm, honestly and this goes beyond just MMA fans, I've never been able to convince anyone that wasn't already a fan that wrestling isn't bullshit. Hell knowing what I know about wrestling I think their starting to convince me. The whole PG thing doesn't help either.

Anyhow I think your logic is flawed. Only a smark would enjoy your typical no stipulations Benoit/Angle/Jericho type match and all of its intricacies. I would show an mma fan a TLC or a First Blood or the UT/Mankind HIAC match. You can't get that level of violence in MMA, its really the only thing that makes wrestling stand out from MMA.

Oh yeah, I'd also show them Brock Lesnar's debut when he destroyed Maven, Spike Dudley, and Al Snow visiously and convincingly. Its never made anyone a fan, but I always show that to my buddies and they love it.

I'd show them a stiff match. Currently, WWE doesn't have many stiff wrestlers, but if we're speaking about all eras of WWE, I'd show the following.

HBK/Taker HIAC.
Angle/Benoit

Non WWE.

Any match with Bill Goldberg. Although I don't like Goldberg, he's more MMA knowledge than most wrestlers and was the hardest hitting/most stiff wrestler.

I wouldn't. Professional Wrestling is like watching a film. MMA is an actual sport. Nothing against Pro Wrestlers but it really is comparing apples & oranges.

I've always loved Pro Wrestling, I've studied martial arts just as long. I like to watch wrestling & MMA but for different reasons. I do hate when Pro Wrestling tries to pretend it's real & has some guys doing legit MMA moves. I'd rather see Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant then a pseudo MMA match. I believe most UFC fans would laugh at someone like Samoa Joe an out of shape pseudo MMA fighter.

I agree 100 percent.

UFC/MMA/K-1/Pride/etc are all legitimate sports. On average, I'd pit a welterweight or lightweight UFC fighter against a WWE heavyweight, and bet money on the MMA fighter.

Especially since a WWE HW DID fight a UFC Heavyweight fighter and got destroyed. Alberto Del Rio fought Cro Cop in Pride under his real name and became one of his LHK knock outs. It's great.

As a poster who rarely makes appearances in the wrestling section of these forums, I'm inclined to agree with both of you. I come to WZ for the MMA section and really don't post in here all that often.

That being said, I am a die-hard wrestling fan as well. I've watched the WWE since the 80's and I've watched UFC since it began. I've always watched Pride/K-1/DREAM/StrikeForce, etc...

It really is apples and oranges, showing someone who doesn't like the WWE a match is pointless. They don't like the WWE and an old storyline isn't going to do it, now matter how violent and graphic the match may be.

I think most people, by now, realize that the athletes in the WWE really test their bodies. The issue isn't "real" or "fake," it's that some people have no interest in the soap opera aspect of the WWE.

I've received much flack from people on both sides because I watch both. My WWE marks that don't like MMA think it's weird, and my MMA friends think it's weird that I would waste my time watching the WWE.

Honestly, I watch the WWE because it's "pointless" entertainment. It's not "real" in the sense that my day will be ruined if my "guy loses." I'm not bashing the WWE or saying the action isn't real, I'm saying that when it comes to things like MMA and sports, outcomes are not predetermined and my day isn't ruined if Cena drops the belt.

When Machida, or Jones, even someone like Fedor starts losing, it ruins your day. I know plenty of MMA fans that have been crushed by seeing Cro Cop and Liddell fall from grace. I know grown men who have cried seeing their favorite fighters, that they've watched from their start, begin a horrible losing streak because their chins can't take overhand rights anymore. It makes people sad to see Cro Cop unconscious on the ground.

The only thing I can even think of in professional wrestling that would make me that sad, would be for Vince to end the streak. When your favorite wrestler drops the belt, most people anyhow, don't go apeshit. Get sad or depressed.

So, in that sense, WWE matches are "pointless." I can enjoy their product without being as emotionally invested on the outcome, like I am with other sports.

Honestly, I agree with documentaries, I loved the Story Of Wrestlemania and was glad it was on Netflix. I'm really fortunate that my roommate loves WWE and MMA.

Even then, though, he hates some of the prelim fights because he doesn't know anything about the fighters. But he and I have had like the greatest month ever.

The Rock coming back, Triple H coming back, the Undertaker coming back, this whole feud at Wrestlemania, Jon Jones vs. Shogun, Sanchez vs. Kampmann, Fitch vs. Penn, and Davis vs. Nogueria.

That's just my take, I hope this helps to answer your question from the perspective of a die-hard MMA and WWE fan.

Honestly dude, there's plenty of MMA fans who do not like Lesnar. They don't like his heel crap in MMA and disapprove of his antics. Personally, I think he's good for the sport, but I know staunch MMA fans who will never give him a shot because of his ties to WWE.

Also, you'd have a hard time convincing an MMA fan that Frank Mir snapping Tim Sylvia's arm or Gonzaga kicked Cro Cop's head off his shoulders and watching his leg buckle under him isn't as violent as those aforementioned matches. BJ Penn bloodying Hughes and licking his blood off his gloves....

There's plenty of violence in MMA.

Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 21. I just loved this match and have actually shown it to a few people to get them into wrestling. Of course, they still say "it's fake" which is something they will never stop believing... but the point is that they now have become a fan of the industry because of being brought into it.

Then again, Shawn and Kurt can make literally anybody look good. Anybody remember what Shawn did for Legacy?

Exactly.
Wrestling fans who bitch about the "wrong" outcome of a match actually humor me; since it's decisively easy to tell who's gonna win a match regardless of the IWC, or sites like the Inc with their "spoilers".
I'd like to see even the biggest wrestlers go against the likes of BJ Penn, Jackson, Griffin etc.
I'd even make a more leniant bet to pit them against someone like Clay Guida. The comedic value is priceless.

Honestly showing a MMA only fan a stiff match won't help. It's still just a show not a real combative fight. They know how the other one is going to hit, where & when.

MMA = real
Pro Wrestling = fake.

Documentary vs Scripted film.

Two separate things. The more Wrestling tries to act like MMA, the more of a backlash it will get.

First, I'd show them the TLC match between The Hardyz, Dudley Boyz, and E&C. That match revolutionized the TLC category for a match. It had many high spots and who wouldn't like seeing someone go through a table?

Second, I'd show them any of the Undetaker-Shawn Michaels bouts at Wrestlemania. Nuff said. We all know those matches were great,

Third, I'd probably show them the recent match of Randy Orton vs. Christian for the World Heavyweight Championship on Smackdown! Both guys performed well and had each other well scouted. Easily a MOTY candidate.

Edge Vs Mick Foley Wrestlemania 22 nuff said about it any ufc fan after seeing this match would say only HOLY SHIT.

As other posters have already said it would have to be either a TLC match, or a Hell In A Cell, probably the famous Mankind v Taker one.

These matches prove that wrestling is not always fake punches and unrealistic fighting. On its best day it can be extremely spectacular, violent and amazing. What these men put their bodies through in these types of matches can easily match what a UFC figher goes through, and some of the bumps can be life-threatening or career ending.

These matches are the ones I always shoe non-wrestling fans or people who have fallen out of love with wrestling. They are always impressed

Actually I would show him the Edge DVD!!
Recently I saw the best matches that Edge had, and fuck, it is very normal tha he is already retired...
The guy gave everything, and just for first impression, i would show last year
SmackDown Elimination Chamber!!
Just for a little taste!!

If they wanna see a fight... lets give them one.

The Rock vs Mankind in an Empty Arena Match

I think this is the only time it's been done, and lemme tell you, they went EVERYWHERE.

If they want to see stuff that'll convince them...
I'd give them stuff like a Money in the Bank, or the Triangle Ladder Match at WM, or that 4-Way Team Ladder Match on Raw. Probably Elimination Chamber of 2003 or 2004. Something that makes them think, "How the hell was he able to fake that?!"

I do have friends who are UFC fans but don't like WWE. The match i show them is this one. Why this one? I ask them why they don't like Pro Wrestling and they basically say they don't like just about everything that the smarks love. Things like Morrison's high spots and all the weapons that get used.

After they see this though they say that there should be more wrestling like this. They like this because it's a great technical match and the closest thing they've seen to a UFC match they've seen in a wrestling ring. Not only is there great amateur wrestling but pretty good brawling as well.

I can't say my UFC friends are avid wrestling fans now but they do watch it a lot more than they did.

Kurt Angle vs Shane McMahon at King of the Ring 2001. That match was just plain brutal. Shane O'Mac took such a beating, nobody, not even a diehard UFC fan, would be able to deny how much physicality that match required. Not only that, but it's an exciting and fun match that most anybody would be able to get into and enjoy. It was a nice change of pace from what was the norm at the time. There were some great spots, some nice displays of athleticism, it really had it all. That match would be able to showcase how hard wrestlers work and how willing they are to put their health on the line.

Id ask them why they cant enjoy both like i do? I know its fake, but it entertains me. Its just a TV show.

Why cant wrestling fans understand that UFC fans simply dont like to watch pro wrestling?

I think alot of you are missing the point that both are TV shows that appeal to different audiences. Who cares. Let them watch what they enjoy.

I hate oprah, dr phil, judge judy, david letterman, but ill watch similar shows like leno, conan, judge joe brown etc. Similar shows, but i simply dont fucking like some of them.

And this whole real vs fake thing is bullshit. Same arguments for the last 20 years. We get it. MMA is real fighting. Wrestling is scripted fighting that still hurts and requires athletisim. Some people like one show, some like the other, some like both and some hate both. Just shut the fuck up already. This thread is fucking pointless.

I am not a UFC fan, but I do understand why a lot of them dismiss pro rasstlin'. They think it is fake, so why would anyone want to waste their time with showing them a bunch of guys flying off of shit?

With that being said, the only match I would show them would be Taker vs Angle from No Way Out 2006. It was hard hitting mixed with a ton of submissions and shit. To be honest, I think UFC fans might like this one because it just feels like a UFC fight minuses the short length (this match isn't short) and the lack of a steel cage around it.

Let's just be honest and realistic here. VERY, VERY FEW hardcare UFC/MMA fans are going to care about pro-wrestling/sports-entertainment (whatever they want to call it) for the same reason most boxing fans were/are not wrestling fans. Why watch fake-wrestling (scripted) when they can watch a REAL legitimate fight? Most boxing fans and MMA fans just look at wrestling as a joke and are not going to give a fake "sport" a chance.

You are absolutely right on that. Usually, if an MMA fan is introduced to pro wrestling and finds interest in it, it will most likely be a casual MMA fan.
