That's an interesting choice, although we again need to call up the definition of "most influential." Wendy herself didn't display that much personality or charisma; it's more that she was the vehicle for all the lunacy that exploded around her, with Cyndi Lauper, Lou Albano, Hulk Hogan & friends. I always wondered what happened to make Wendy disappear so suddenly from WWE. One minute she was the reigning female; next minute she was gone.

what had happened was that wendi had went to vince and demanded to get paid more money.. along the lines of hogan's pay rate. She had the main event AND a championship win at wrestlemania, and she only got paid about $1400 if that much.
she was, at that time, rivalling hogan in popularity and in many cases, had the main event at house shows either wrestling for or defending the wwf women's title.
due to this fact, wendi said to vince that she should be getting paid more money.
vince's answer was simply to have moolah dress up as spider lady and basically steal the title from wendi.
Wendi had said that when she had gotten to the arena that day she just "felt" that somethign was not right. for starters, moolah was wandering around backstage, and it wasnt like moolah to be at a show if she wasnt working it.
wendi knew she was facing spider lady for the belt and that she was booked to successfully defend the title, but when they got in the ring she knew right away that it wasnt the real spider lady, and a few seconds into the match (at around the 38 second mark i think) you can hear wendi saying to the ref.. "i know thats moolah."
when the ref counted the three.. even tho wendi visibly was up almost n her feet at TWO.. wendi flipped out. when they handed the belt to moolah, wendi went right back to the lockerroom, grabbed her bag, hailed a taxi, and headed to the airport and never went back.
she knew then, and everyone else knows NOW, that vince double crossed her and pretty much handed the title back to moolah even tho she didnt win it legit.
thats the reason why wendi left the wwf and hasnt been back since.
though after leaving the wwf, she went on to win the awa womens championship, the nwf womens championship and the wwc womens chamspionship as well... so even tho it seemed like she "faded from sight" thats the furthest thing from the truth.
oh, and wendi had TONS of charisma, tho in good conscience i have to say she wasnt great on the mike.. but she wasnt terrible either. i can blame that on the fact that they NEVER gave women the chance to speak to begin with.
as for women wrestlers in the 80's being "beasts"... back then the emphasis WASNT on "super model looks" and "saline implants".. it was more on athleticism and skill. i would take a team consisting of velvet mcintyre, wendi richter, sherri, bull nakano, rockin robin, and luna over a team of sable, trish, kelly kelly, mccool, eve, and maria any day of the week. theres just no comparison between them at all.
