With the start of the Monday night Wars, came the rise of two of the most memorable Factions in Wrestling History. WCW's NWO, and the WWF's Degeneration-X. so my question to everyone is, in your OWN opinion, who did you like more? who entertained you more?

before everyone starts, i should mention that YES it's been said that DX was a rip off of NWO, but they were a ripoff of a Japanese Promotion's Stable too.
as for which version of each of them im talking about? you decide. if you liked the original 3 man NWO, then okay, the large one? the wolf pack?
as for DX, the original one? the bigger Face one? the "New and Improved"?

My pick is going to DX. for me they were what all kids wanted, Rebellious, anti-everything, we loved the "you make the rules and we'll BREAK 'EM"
and what kid didn't at one point in the 90's tell someone that if they didn't like it to "SUCK IT!" haha

And of course you can't leave out the fact that some also calls NWO a rip off from The Kliq as well as the Japanese stable. Because of The Kliq's backstage influence as well as two of the found Kliq members are founding NWO members.

I never experienced NWO a lot. I never really bothered with looking back completely into the NWO and WCW. To me it truly felt like they were a large definition of The Kliq because of the backstage pulling Hogan especially did.

Also I feel it got way out of hand looking at the size of the factions. Especially when they actually split into two.

But ultimately I just like D-Generation X much more. Because the two of the founding members are my two favorite wrestlers of all time. Triple H and Shawn Michaels. I became a huge fan with both of them due to DX and I have found myself either rolling or chuckling at the majority of their segments.

About the version of them. I again can't comment on the NW. But as I said I felt it got way out of hand with the size. So I'm gonna say the original 3 man NWO.

The D-Generation X one. I don't really care which one of them. I loved all 3 of them. No matter how PG or censored the last two of them became I found them to be absolutely hilarious. But in the end I would probably say the original one. Just because they had some bigger more entertaining moments. And because they were so borderline and I feel they were a large part in pushing the Attitude Era. Like Shawn said backstage during a segment "I made the Attitude Era!"

yes, the NWO got out of hand very fast.. i started out a fan of theirs, only because it gave something new to Hogan that no one had ever seen. But D-X will be my pick, Due to the fact that this was what kept the WWF alive while going up against the NWO. the feud with the Hart Foundation, the Nation of Domination (including the parody segment which was by far the funniest thing i have ever seen) and so on.. Shawn and Hunter as great as their career's are, will always be remembered as creating THE stable as far as professional wrestling goes.

I guess I'll be the guy to go with the NWO. I grew up in the Atlanta area & watched more WCW than WWF, and while I enjoyed DX, the NWO was groundbreaking. They way it was booked at the beginning was perfect. You actually thought Hall & Nash were invading. I was a teenager @ the time, didn't read the insider reports, & I really was shocked when Hall & Nash showed up on Nitro. And everyone in the company, from wrestlers to announcers, sold it perfectly. Then you have the 3rd man @ Bash at the Beach, which took it to a completely new level. The NWO got out of hand, got too big too fast. But even when they added Dibiase as the money man, that was a great touch. If they had just keept it smaller, maybe limited to to ex-WWF guys, it would've been so much better.

Again, DX was cool, & I know that the NWO gimmick came from Japan, but the fact remains that the NWO changed pro wrestling in this country. If I have to choose, the original NWO gets my vote.

this is absolutely NO contest..the greatest faction of ALL time is the NWO.
there is no dispute about it.. DX was good for a while but quickly became boring as everything wwf did was a rip-off of wcw at the time.

i will go with DX here and this is the reason why. DX didnt get out of hand like the NWO did. NWO was a great thing........at first. i liked the idea of Hogan, Nash, Hall, Giant/Big Show, Syxx and maybe two other guys, BUT when Macho Man, Buff Bagwell and many others joined in, it got too big. NWO was basically killing WCW in real life because of how big they got, then they split the NWO in two which i also wasnt a huge fan of. They should've had an NWO match where the winner would disband forever, but they didnt, instead, Hogan joined the Wolfpac and the NWO black and white pretty much became a midcarder group. DX however, had at most 6 people, they didn't go overboard and have almost the entire roster a member of DX or split the group in two, they kept it simple. Was DX a ripoff of the NWO, i would tend to say, it could be, BUT unlike NWO, DX didnt have 30 guys part of the NWO.

Gotta go with the nWo it was new and groundbreaking. It all started with Hulk Hogan turning heel at BASH at the BEACH '96. He was the ultimate babyface and at the time it was totally unheard of at the time. The nWo is what WCW hot during the late nineties. The nWo is what made the gang lifestyle cool among so many teenagers during this time. I mean really how many of us did the nWo handsign. Plus nWo never became PG.

The nWo was one of the most revolutionizing and impacting factions (if not the most revolutionizing and impacting) factions in pro-wrestling history. How this could ever go to DX is beyond me. DX was fine while it lasted, but had an obvious expiration date on it's product's relative value that was much earlier than the nWo's was.

Considering I watched more WCW than WWE/F at the time, my vote went to the nWo regardless.

and i think that's where a lot of the voting is going to come from too, is who watched which show. the WWF guys will for the most part pick DX, and WCW guys will lean towards NWO, but i watched Both every week. Nitro, and Raw, then Thunder and Smackdown. as well as the PPV's. and i liked them both, hell, we had our own little "NWO wolfpack" in school too (wow we were lame back then..) but i think it was more of the way DX acted that appealed to me.. it tapped into my inner rebel side, because it was more marketed at the Teen's of the 90's. my only problem with the NWO besides the numbers growing to a stupid rate, and the constant breaking into smaller versions of it's self, was that it supported the gang style a little too much.

Again, if one didn't watch WCW as regularly as WWF (like yours truly), that person will always choose DX, however over the years I have seen a lot of their promos online, on dvd and caught up with their shenanigans & I say....

I still like DX better.

First of all I don't care who came first, I only care who did it best.

DX was just the kinda group every teenager wanted to be in. The crotch chops, the 'Suck Its', man they were just in your face obnoxious.
Cool Obnoxious.

Their entrance theme song/video far surpassed nWo's and I believe they truly had the better wrestlers. Their promos were better, their skits were better and they raised so much more hell on camera (and off it).

So my vote will always go to D-Generation X
The Best Stable EVER!

You guys are a little off based. Yes they were both great, but for 2 years you actually thought the NWO was totally a different company than WCW. You always wanted to know if someone was gonna defect from WCW to the NWO. The even went so far as to hold their own payperview. There was a reason that WCW kicked WWF's but for a stretch and that reason was the N-W-O...Survey says, "Another for the goood guys".

Hands Down, Degeneration X. They were THE best faction/stable of all time and absolutely HILARIOUS. I honestly never liked NWO and i probably never will. They had too many members and to me they weren't that entertaining. Now if I had to pick what time frame of DX I liked the most........

It would probably be the original DX during the Attitude Era. This is where they were the funniest and were extremely entertaining. I'm honestly suprised that HBK and HHH ( the founders of DX ) didn't win the tag team titles earlier than they did. But anyways, DX definately got my vote.

I have to go with all versions of DX. How can you not like them.! At first they were heel stable next face/tweener, and face/tweener/heel. The nWo was mainly heel except for one their versions was the Wolfpac which was kind of face/tweener stable. The nWo just got out of hand no doubt. I was fan of WCW and WWE watched it all the time ever since I was kid now I'm 27.

I loved when they were multiple stables going on as long as it was done decently. Except for today now their are hardly any stables unless someone decide to make certain people get together time to time or something. Its morely tag teams then stables. It just gave people to do something besides becoming full flege jobber or nothing at all.

What killed WCW was the nWo especially with midcarders that got put in there for the heck of it. I didn't care for the version where Stevie Ray or Horace Hogan was the leader of the Black & White/Gray.

Another comment is if HBK wasn't hurt, how well would DX be or would things still happen the way it did which made HHH the leader and major star?

Anyways I can easily go on and on especially about these two stables or any other ones.

My thing is if DX were to fight anyone in the nWo or WCW roster who would you bring to the table.?!

Degeneration-X
Shawn Michaels co-leaders (if only was around and not hurt)
Triple H co-leaders
New Age Outlaws (Billy Gunn and Roaddog) tag team specialist
X-Pac* (depends on his loyality with DX or nWo)[maybe he starts off with nWo but decides to join DX like if this was a match like Survivor Series Match and X-Pac screws nWo.]
Chyna (manager*)

vs

nWo
Hollywood Hogan leader
Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall)
Syxx* (depends on his loyality with DX or nWo)[maybe he starts off with nWo but decides to join DX like if this was a match like Survivor Series Match and X-Pac screws nWo.]

Who else would you bring to the table to face DX if this could really happen.
Yes, the nWo had a lot members to pick from but out of these guys who would you pick for this fight? nWo/Japan/Hollywood/Wolfpac/Black & White/Reunion/2000 (The Giant/Big Show, Randy Savage, Buff Bagwell, Scott Norton, Scott Steiner, Brian Adams, Curt Hennig, Masahiro Chono, Great Muta, nWo Sting, Hiro Saito, AKIRA, Tatsutoshi Goto, Michiyoshi Ohara, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima, Big Titan, The Disciple/Brutus Beefcake, Stevie Ray, Horace Hogan, Lex Luger, Sting, Konnan, Bret Hart, Jeff Jarrett, and Harris Twins)

Depending on what role X-Pac/Syxx and HBK plays. I would go with Randy Savage, The Giant/Big Show, and Great Muta. Then again its a tough decision because your best bet would go with Lex Luger, Sting, and Bret Hart. So many choices who knows.?!

Would DX be a face/tweener/heel vs nWO full fledge heel?

NWO - i absolutly hated dx at the time and think they have become even more useless as time goes by, at the time hhh was nothing but a midcarder with no hint of the greatness to come ,never liked michaels ,road dogg and assface or whatever the hell he was called were usless they were stupid boring and their juvinile humor was not funny . i dont mean to turn this into a dx bashing but this is how i feel. The nwo took wrestling to the next level as far as mainstream popoularity goes much like hogan did in the 80's. imo the only reason we still hear about dx is because mcmahon wont let it die ,if nwo was his creation we would have reunions every year or two.

I said DX they were awesome and so funny definatly one of the best stables of all time {Rated RKO being the best}. However I never saw NWO so it wasen't really that hard of a choice.

I watched alot more WWF than WCW at that time, and so my vote went to DX, HHH and HBK were just perfect as the 2 young out of control renegades and the stuff they came up with was hilarious.

Later on when DX tried to invade the WCW broadcast of Nitro, that was just fantastic to see, and plus they had the best entrance music in history

I ended up owning both nWo and DX t-shirts and was a fan of both, but DX were more enjoyable to watch i think

How can anyone pick DX is beyond me. DX was just a nWo ripoff anyways. Plus the nWo ever had a oiled up fatguy wearing a thong and a midget as their mascotts. Plus they had the better tagteam. The Outsiders was just Too Sweeeet!!!!

and the NWO was original?... no. they were a Ripoff as well. Bishoff has even said this in the past, and they may have not had big Dick Johnson running around in the NWO, but DX didnt lead to the Death of WWF now did it. and both of the references you made were the NEW "DX" a lot of the people who have picked the Degenerative Duo, went with the very first verson. the DX "classic" if you will. while NWO was making headlines in WCW doing one thing, DX was doing things different in WWF. they were breaking all the rules, yes, but the NWO was not making sex references, or showing their asses, or really any of the DEGENERATIVE stuff that they did on a nightly basis. what was the funniest thing the NWO ever did? only one i can think of was the "Finger poke of doom" oh.. but thats what many consider (Watch the Rise and Fall of WCW) to be the turning point in the Monday night wars for WWF.. while DX on the other hand, had COUNTLESS humorous things in their early days. from the Clinton like speech, to the masks with wiper blades on it to talk to Sgt.Slaughter.

Sometimes the Copy turns out better than the original.

It has to go to the NWO....

NWO was so good in there angle of taking over. I remember in orlando when they picked up rey misterio and threw him into a truck... people in the crowd actually called the cops.(it was that good)

So i have to go with the NWO for sheer story lines and waiting to see what happened next.

DX was just funny and entertaining, but i found them annoying to.

Although i luved the Sgt Slaugter angle, watching him kick the piss out of triple H was just amazing and fun to watch. for a guy his age

Bishoff has even said this in the past, and they may have not had big Dick Johnson running around in the NWO, but DX didnt lead to the Death of WWF now did it.
The nWo killed WCW? When did that happen? I do remember the nWo almost leading to the death of the WWF though, you know two years of domination and all.

while NWO was making headlines in WCW doing one thing, DX was doing things different in WWF. they were breaking all the rules, yes, but the NWO was not making sex references, or showing their asses, or really any of the DEGENERATIVE stuff that they did on a nightly basis.
Shows how little you know about the nWo, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash did the crotch-chop quite often.

what was the funniest thing the NWO ever did?
Have you never seen Scott Hall cut a promo?

(Watch the Rise and Fall of WCW)

LOL, there's an unbiased account if I ever saw one.

DX on the other hand, had COUNTLESS humorous things in their early days.
So your argument is DX is better because they appelaed to a twelve year old's sense of humour? the nWo changed the wrestling landscape forever and lead to the Attitude Era. What did DX do by comparison?

The nWo killed WCW? When did that happen? I do remember the nWo almost leading to the death of the WWF though, you know two years of domination and all.

yes, but what happened AFTER that? they got too big, and like with a star, once it blows up to it's maximum limit, it starts to implode, that's what happened to the NWO, they started off GREAT, but should never have gone past the original 3. add maybe 2 or 3 tops, but the original 3 gained the most heat of anyone. once 3/4 of the company are in it, that makes it kind of boring. have you ever watched the Behind the scenes interviews, not only on the "Rise and fall of WCW" but on the "NWO" DVD it's self? even those guys admit that it got too big. yes, they had their great run on the top, but then they got too cocky. when Eric Bishoff came out and read the results of Raw? that made me lose all respect for him. honestly, i know it was a war, but i turned off of WCW at that point. and how was Jabronie saying watch the DVD an "unbiased account if I ever saw one." as you said? that was a good DVD, and almost all the interviews were done with guys who were actually IN WCW were they not? they were there and are giving their first hand opinions on the matter.

So your argument is DX is better because they appealed to a twelve year old's sense of humor? the nWo changed the wrestling landscape forever and lead to the Attitude Era. What did DX do by comparison?

Yes, the NWO did indeed change wrestling as we see it forever. this recent Nexus angle, is being compared to the NWO, anytime there is something similar it is brought up, when people hear the name Scott hall, or Kevin Nash, they don't think WWF, they think NWO members. but. the reason DX did well, was as you said, they appealed to a 12yr old's sense of humor. where is the big cash? in the kids. the same thing WWE is doing now, marketing to kids, well the WWF did it too, they marketed towards kids, but it was a different kind of kids then. ones who loved the Raw, gritty reality. they tuned in to see the women strip down and spank each other, to watch guys beat each other and throw them off cages, and also to see what DX was going to do week after week, but the difference to me between marketing to kids then, and now, is that it wasn't only kids who got behind DX, it was a lot of adults too. who wish that we could go to our boss, and tell him to "Suck it!" and walk away. that is why Degeneration X is winning this poll, because the kids who grew up loving them, are now the Adults of the IWC.

I think if you really want to look at the heart and soul of both factions, you have to look at their earlier versions. If you look at what spawned from both factions, you're not going to get a fair or accurate picture of what their actually about. For instance, nWo eventually became more about the "shock" factor, and people just wanted to see who would join up next. Hogan and HBK were probably the two biggest shockers, but you really have to look at the WCW version to truly appreciate what the nWo was. And the same goes for Degeneration X. I mean, the version of DX in 2005 to the present is just completely off. When they first came around, it was a bunch of guys that were trying to be the main event, who raised hell, spat in the face of authority, and did whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, to whoever the hell they felt like doing it to. DX gave us some of the biggest stars we've ever had.

So I think if you look at both factions during the time they were FIRST popular, you get a good picture of both nWo and DX. And it's hard decision to make, but I'm going to have to go with DX. Maybe it's that over time I have just grown a distaste for Hogan, Nash, and Hall. And maybe it's because over time HBK and HHH became two of the greatest superstars of all time... I don't know. I try to look at it objectively, but all I really see is who they all are today, and I can't really give the nWo too much credit. Then again, Pacc and Gunn were members, and where are they today...?
