What's Going On With Desmond Wolfe?

Clem

Pre-Show Stalwart
I just read the news on the front page about Desmond Wolfe. How he shows up to tapings, sees friends, then leaves before showtime and there's always talk of an "undisclosed illness". Plus, wasn't he meant to return about a month ago after they'd taped a few promos to hype it? This must be the only story in professional wrestling where the details remain a secret.

I hope he comes back soon. TNA misused him in 2010, making him toil in a nonsensical feud with Abyss and then throwing him in a random tag team with Magnus, but no one can forget his brilliant debut in 2009 and subsequent feud with Kurt Angle. I went out of my way to get the PPVs for those matches. If they can hold off on the ADD booking where he's concerned, he could be built up as a quality champion.

I don't know whats up with Wolf. It has to be serious illness for him not to wrestle and to be kept so secret. But if he is walking around to go to the impact zone to see the show i guess it not terminal at least not yet ( not that i wish it was because i would be sad if he dies), but i don't get it either because he is a good talent and should be used more.

Nigel McGuinness has gone from one of the best wrestlers in the world to one of the most misused wrestlers in the world! Not, America, TNA, WWE but in the world.

I'm not talking about his work in TNA, I'm talking about what he did in ROH. Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness made ROH during the feud for the ROH Pure Championship.

McGuinness is a better wrestler than half of the TNA roster, maybe I'm taking credit away. Actually, he's one of the best wrestlers in TNA.

Another reason I hold a grudge against TNA is for the way they misued him. They allow a stoner Champion who has a fat brother making videos about eatcing grapes and how his name is "MATTHEW", hold the World Championship when a guy who WWE had their grasp on is sitting in Florida probably waiting out the rest of his contract with that "organization", if TNA can even be refered to as that.

I hope, hell I pray that he leaves TNA and does what he should have done in the first place. Follow Bryan Danielson and enter WWE. Cause WWE might misuse the odd person, but much like Danielson they don't misuse talented wrestlers like McGuinness.

It's kind of strange that they haven't disclosed what it is. If it were a leg, arm or head injury they'd disclose that. Kind of makes me think it might be something that could potentially be terminal like cancer, or maybe even some type of disease.

I would like to know what's going on too. Why hasn't he returned?? He was injured or something, but I was under the impression he was okay to return. Dixie was hyping up that Desmond Wolfe would be returning soon. They were said to have had vignettes for his return, and then he did return but it was nixed from the final iMPACT! broadcast for whatever reason.

He is main event championship material. I could see him challenging AJ and Anderson for the TNA WHC. I hope he does return soon, and has an amazing year in TNA Wrestling. He is one of my favorites in TNA.

They allow a stoner Champion who has a fat brother
Correction, a stoner who HAD a fat brother. Matt's in bloody good shape again! He looks like a wrestler once more.

And to the point of the thread, whatever Wolfe's condition, it must be something that either comes and goes, or else has gotten worse, considers they'd taped his comeback a few weeks ago, then decided to hold off again.

i believe he had a severe concussion

he's had 8+ in the past, i kind of feel that's why he didn't pass the wwe medical test when they first tried to sign him

Saw an image of him about, last week, and he didn't look in shape. He looked nothing like he used to back around 04 - 07. Matt Hardy I know for a fact isn't currently in shape.

If he is, I want to know how he did it so quickly.

Whatever the issue is, TNA is missing one of their absolute gems in terms of both star power as well as youth power, because Wolfe has both. He is one of (if not the) most talented wrestlers on their roster, and for whatever the reason he's been sidelined indefinitely which has really hindered the TNA product.

All we can do is hope for the best, because neither TNA, nor Wolfe are disclosing what this issue is, and until then we're left with nothing but speculation and conjecture from jaded fans pursuing their own self-interests (see Jason Scene).

Do you guys remember when TNA did that "Vote for the #1 Contender" thing on their site.

Wolfe kept winning, and he got is shot on iMPACT against RVD.

I thought, holy sh*t, this match is gonna be awesome, even if Wolfe didn't win.

But what do they do? It's a 3 minute squash match and he didn't even get an entrance. :banghead::wtf:

Yeah um Matt Hardy is pretty good shape tune in to TNA and you'll see that. I also hope that Wolfe returns to ring soon even if he comes back to partner with Magnus. I also wouldn't mind seeing a program with him and Anderson.

If it wasn't so sad, it'd be funny.

I guess that's why they dropped the online vote so quickly. It just didn't work in conjunction with traditional booking. Strangely, who the fans want to be successful isn't always the same as who the company wants to be successful. You'd think there would be some overlap, but just look at WWE. We'd like Bryan Danielson to be challenging for World Titles, but instead we get John Cena for the umpteenth time.

The funniest thing about the vote was that it was at a time when TNA weren't even using Wolfe particularly well. They were burying him on TV in ridiculous segments where Chelsea would mock the size of his manhood, but the fans still wanted to see him in the title picture. Note to TNA - Get a clue!

Whatever the illness, that it has not come out leads me to believe it is somewhat serious... these things are not kept secret in wrestling for long... It is known the guy had a lot of concussions... as someone who has had 2 major ones myself I can imagine that a certain problem that I am currently being tested for could be the cause... Think Marty McFly...

Anyway, I loathe
those Russian plays.
Always full of women
staring out of windows,
whining about ducks
going to Moscow.

What do you think
of Desmond Wolfe?

- In respect of what?
- I'm thinking of changing my name.
It's too like Donald Wolfit.

Changeover point.

- Think he's happier than us?
- No.
I suppose happiness
is relative.

I never thought it would be
a polythene bag without a hole in it.

As completely British a film can get and still edgy and genius, just like Nigel Mcguinness is as completely British a wrestler can get and he's still edgy and genius. I heard TNA management held him back for his cocky demeanour, it means TNA management on a fundamental level just don't get what it is to actually be a "cockney geezer", so to speak.

If he is moving around and doing comedy gigs like he is healthy but is still not medically cleared then it means whatever ailment he has is serious. That probably means he has no chance of WWE signing him.
Wolfe is a favourite of him and everything is looking bleak..

He's my favourite wrestler in TNA, and every time I read something like this it makes me feel like sticking pins in my eyes. It's so frustrating. Even if he isn't capable of wrestling right now, the way they misused him last year was a disgrace. After January 4th, he was fucked. They've got 2 no talent idiots in a tag team in Immortal (Gunner and the other prat) yet they have this London Brawling thing sat there gathering dust. Mugs, total mugs.

I'll tell you a story. Shortly after Wolfe debuted on TNA while he was feuding with Angle, I was sat in my local pub. The barman is flipping through the channels and lands on Bravo, which was showing a repeat of Impact. The room I was in was packed out, and people started complaining about having wrestling on TV. Everyone is mocking the whole thing as you'd expect from pissed up people pretending they never ever enjoyed it, and the whole thing is "gay". Anyway, Wolfe comes on and cuts a promo and the whole room sat and watched it intently. After that everyone thought he was great. When he came out to wrestle doing his 2 finger salute (which is our version of giving people the middle finger) and calling everyone wankers (which is another of our words) the room I was in was going nuts. Wolfe made TNA new fans over here that night. See, they bang on about how big their fan base is over here, but then they misuse their top English guy to epic proportions. We get him over here. The 2 fingers, the wanker stuff, the Lock Stock promos. It's perfect for a British audience who lost touch with wrestling and finds it all (for want of a better phrase) "too American". This country became very disillusioned with it all a few years ago, and Wolfe is a man who could bring it back. But typically, they fuck it up.

The London Brawling thing as you call it wasn't shelved for Gunner and the other Prat so to speak. It's shelved because Steven Haworth aka Desmond Wolfe is not medically cleared to wrestle. Dixie Carter is said to love his character and work and would do almost anything to have him in the ring. He was suppose to return in December but he's unable to perform right now.

It's said he still shows up before tapings to hang out and talk to his buddies.

I do remember that and it was a bust.
Man I really hope Wolfe is ok. Fantastic talent on the mike and in the ring. And yes he is one of the wrestling elite, if what he did in ROH didn't prove it his feud with Kurt Angle in late 2009 had to prove it.

It's confusing to me how Desmond Wolfe has an "undiclosed illness." In this day and age when wrestling can keep nearly nothing secret, and TNA is worse at it than the WWE is, how we still have no idea what's ailing him. I doubt a concussion would last this long, as we haven't even seen the guy since I believe August-September. Still maybe it's a private thing so no sense in speculation. Also, I'm no doctor, so for all we know his medical condition could be something much worse.

Desmond Wolfe is an amazing wrestler, and the way things are looking, we may see a variation of the British Invasion with Magnus, Williams and Wolfe coming together (and wouldn't Crimson fit that group as well?...but that's another topic)

I hear somewhere that it was some sort of concussion injury. Its weird that its being kept as such a secret although it can be to bad since he's walking around backstage. I cant wait for him to come back. He could be TNA champ one day if they ever give him the chance. It may be a good thing for his career since this is sort of a fresh start to revitalize him.

A concussion would answer a lot of questions as concussions can cause a slew of ancillary symptoms that folks might not realize are a result of having had a concussion.

Passing out, memory loss, confusion, slurring words, failure to concentrate, light headedness, seeing "stars", blurred vision, ringing in the ears, inability to stay balanced/stand/walk/run/jump/whatever (vertigo), nausea, etc.

Again, we're working off limited information, but a concussion would certainly explain why the illness has been so vaguely referenced, as well as why with an illness he still comes to the iMPACT! Zone often to see friends/check in, and might also explain why they filmed returning vignettes for him.

Whatever he has, it must be serious. His decline over the past year was unbelievable. He was slated to be a member of Fourtune if recalled right, but whatever he has limited his role to the point having to be on a tag team and eventually off camera. Yeah, whatever he has must be serious stuff if he can barely work. Hat's off to TNA for keeping him close and keeping an eye on him. Hope he can recover as he can easily take the spotlight in TNA.

I heard that he might have Hepatitis B. This is all rumor of course but that is what I heard elsewhere. It was also reported apparently that he also has trouble with him memory, as well as other signs of brain damage. I was also told he's had horrible arm injuries in the past that he never was able to get taken care of properly because he didn't make enough money on the indy circuit to do so. Again this is all here-say, but as I hear it and as they say, this guy is in rough shape and might not wrestle again.
