What is the best mid card fued ever?

Captain Bean

Pre-Show Stalwart
There are plenty of threads related to the best fued ever, but mainly the focus is on main event fueds. my question is, what is the best mid card fued ever? pick from any promotion and give reasons

I'd havge to go with Benoit, Jerich and Angle. great 3 way feud. 3 of the best wrestlers of the time (2 in history) and 2 of the best guys on the mic ever. all future world champions, but they were feusing for the intercontinetal and european titles. they actually bought a great deal of respect to the euro title! gotta respect that if nothing else...

How about Jake the Snake and Ravishing Rick Rude. I believe Rude tried to give Jake's wife a kiss or something and Jake got pissed. Then Rude started wearing perhaps the best tights ever, with Jake's wife's face on them. Two great workers, good heat, top notch midcard feud from the late 80s.

shawn michaels vs razor ramon for the intercontinental title that was a decent mid card feud that cumulated in the laddder match being reborn. id say bret hart vs the british bulldog summerslam 92 although it was main event never has the intercontinental title main evented a ppv again as that is classed as a mid card title. other matches i like are mysterio vs jamie noble loved all there matches as there styles are different but seem to connect. i agree with jericho benoit angle feud tho aswell.

This might be going back a bit, but Chris Benoit and Kevin Sullivan comes to mind. They had some intense matches, as their real hatred for one another really came through in their matches. I particularly remember their "Falls Count Anywhere" match. I believe it was from Bash at The Beach. You had the real-life element of Chris Benoit and Woman added to the feud.

I'd also nominate Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage, which culminated in their Wrestlemania 3 match.

Seems to me that the most intense mid-card feuds happened years ago. These days, the programs seem forced and cut short or extended beyond their shelf life.

I think the best mid-card feud ever was Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat for the Intercontinental Champion. The storyline was great from beginning to end. It started of great with Savage "injuring" Steamboat's larynx and Ricky made a great comeback to save his friend George Steele when Savage was going to try and injure him too. They ended their feud in an epic match at Wrestlemania and what many consider the one of the best matches in North American. I was not alive when this feud took place but from the various videos I have seen and from everything I have read I really liked and enjoyed everything about it and I really can't find anything wrong with the storyline.

Savage vs Steamboat is an all time classic for me.

I also really enjoyed the Jericho vs. HBK fued from last year. At times they both made me suspend belief and I almost actually believed HBK hated Jericho, and vice versa. IMO, both have went downhill since that fued.

Best ones are already named - macho/steamboat and hbk/ramon, but what about more recent ones. The decent ones that were more recent were Christian/Y2J fighting over who gets with trish or lita first with the wager of 1 canadian dollar, or the year long fued between matt hardy and mvp over who was the better half of the tag team, who was the better athelete, and it was also over the us title. For me, HBK/Ramon was the best. 1} Perfect storyline for the fued by having HBK return with the original belt and Ramon had the one that was given out in the tournament. 2} Both wrestlers were good talkers and good atheltes. 3} Great match to settle the dispute by hanging both belts up in a ladder match. 4} Great re-match. Im too young to know much about steamboat/macho so im stating that before anyone mentions it.

i agree with the angle/benoit/jericho fued. all went on to be world champions. brought respect to the european title, and their match at WM 16 was great.

another great midcard fued was HHH/Rock for the intercontinental title back in 1997. i think it culminated in a ladder match at summerslam in 97. was an awesome fued. both went on to be huge stars, with HHH still at the top of the business, and the rock, although leaving prematurely, going down as one of the greatest of all time.

all the decent mid card fueds do seem to be a while ago. another one being savage/steamboat as mentioned earlier. can anyone think of a recent one? i.e. the last 5 years?

2003-2004 Mick Foley vs Randy Orton feud
Great hardcore match to finish it as well. Orton gained a lot of heat and Foley put as being a coward was great. Ortons one defining feud I think began his push.

Mentioned were some great feuds, so I'll do my best to chime in with some that haven't been named that I recall enjoying. I REALLY enjoyed Jake Roberts vs. Ted DiBiase, Chris Benoit vs. Raven, Rey Mysterio vs. Juventud Guerrera, AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe, Tully Blanchard vs. Magnum TA, Sting vs. The Great Muta, Chris Jericho vs. Dean Malenko, Dean Malenko vs. Eddie Guerrero, Brian Pillman vs. Jushin Liger, Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect, Shawn Michaels vs. Rick Martel, and JBL vs. The Blue Meanie. That last one used the internet as the marks, which I thought was brilliant, or JBL really beat his ass, either way, it was hilarious to me.

Jake Roberts vs Randy Savage, because of the many antics from Jake.
The cobra that bit Savage, the snake that was in the gifts, roberts slapping elizabeth, the psycological heel mic work from Jake, and the crowd begging Tunney to reinstate macho, are all legendary moments in WWE history. And the cool part of the feud was the transition ending where Roberts started a progam with Undertaker quite literally moments after his last match with savage, thus turning UT face for the next few years to come.

Another one was Magnum TA vs Nikita Koloff. This was during the mid 80s with the soviets and everything that went along with it and this was a battle for the United States title to top it all off. They had that famous best of 7 series that Koloff was up 3-0 in and then TA came all the way back to tie it (i believe they may have also fought to a draw in one match..not totally sure) before losing in an amazing final bout.

Chris Benoit and Booker T also had a best of 7 series for the TV title in wcw. They both traded the title back and forth and their seventh match had to be redone because neither wanted to win in a DQ. Eventually Booker won the series and beat Finlay. Its significant because after this series of theirs, they both shot up to the upper midcard level, and later Booker having a meteoric rise to the top. He can thank Benoit and those specific matches alone for that.

I don’t know about the best Mid – Card feud ever, but my favorite Mid – Card of all time was Stone Cold Steve Austin / The Rock feud for the Intercontinental Title. Watching these two, you just knew this wasn’t the last time these two would face off. This also started, what many believe to be one of the Greatest feuds in WWE history, Austin / McMahon.

i have to say my top 5 here they are counting down

5 Shawn Michales vs British Bulldog these two were gold in the ring together and i really enjoyed watching there matches as they gave me memories i will never forget

4 Mick Foley vs Randy Orton now this feud was not real long. but this is what made Randy a real big time player in the WWE. Foley really puts Orton over and even makes him bleed and they put on one if not the best Hardcore match ever on Paper-View

3 Kurt Angle vs Chris Beniot vs Y2J these two are purely the two best technical wrestlers ever in the WWE at the same time. yes i know a lot feuds were over the Tittle. but i liked when there feud started at WM in triple threat they can put on a show. they did it again one on one at the Royal Rumble they had matches before this that were lower mid card but were special to me because they gave it there all. there match at WM 2000 was best triple threat for mid card tittles ever.

2 this one for me will be a tag team mid card feud the Hardys vs the Dudelys vs Edge and Chriastan these guys redfined what tag team wrestling really was. there fueds started all the way back in 1999 and did not stop until 2001. they had Ladder matches TLC and Tables matches all were show stealers and the one i liked most was the triangle ladder match at WM 2000 they had a huge match that got the crowds respect for all 3 teams.

1 this is hard one but i will say Bret Hart vs HBK these two had lots of famous matches together tag, Mid tittles and world tittles. they had great chemistery in the ring and told great story. yeah they had the screwjob but their matches all the way back from 1990 and on were great.

shit i forgot some. Savage and Steamboat would be my best of all time. as well as others like MVP vs Matt
Y2J vs Christan Angle VS Edge and i am sure there are more to many to name

Being an old school ECW fan, I have to stop in this thread, and post some love for the great feuds of the ECW Arena. First and foremost, my favorite midcard feud ever (even if it is a little bit of favoritism), is Jerry Lynn v. Rob Van Dam. This carried ECW through "the monday night shows" stealing all of their ideas, and spots. It pitted "The Whole F'n Show" against "The New F'n Show". It was RVD, the king of ECW's midcard, against the real people's champ. This shot RVD to superstardom, and pushed Lynn into the main event scene, where no other company thought he would fit. They did this with both men playing the face, or the heel, and it never had a bad match.

I also have to give an honorable mention to Shane Douglas and the Pitbulls. Shane breaking Gary's neck was extremely shocking, and made weekly ECW shows must-see TV.

I'm going back to WCW and saying Chris Jericho vs. Dean Malenko. It brought us one of the best promos ever, Jericho telling us his 1004 moves to prove he was better than Malenko, who was the man of 1000 holds.

It was a great cruiserweight feud where the heel had the advantage for almost all of the time, but the face ended up winning in the end. These two were great in the ring and worked well together. If you have never taken the time to watch either of these men in a WCW ring, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This is their match from Uncensored in 1998. The sound is a little off, but you see the great heel character Jericho played in WCW and the Iceman himself in a great match.

100 percent agree with raven123. mick foley v randy orton of 2003-2004 this was the start of the orton push. and i just youtubes their harrdcore match and it is truly a great match.

Hands down in my opinion was the Chris Benoit and Booker T in their best of 7 matches from WCW. It was an awesome series of matches that actually meant something instead of just having the usual rematch clause or having no real story to them.

This was so much fun to watch for me and really kept me on the edge of my seat.

I'd have to say great mid card feuds are those where both men are elevated after,

with such I'd agree with most on the savage/steamboat feud (savage went on to main event a year later while steamboat went on to feud with flair in wcw)

i'd also have to include HHH/The rock circa mid 98, both competed all summer over the ic belt and had the great nation/dx feud. Immeadiately after the feud the rock became a main event fixture and HHH followed a year later.

and last but not least, all though I dont consider either a mid carder the eddie guerro/rey mysterio feud that last from wm 21 through summerslam was great (even if some of the storyline stuff wasnt), I consider this a mid card because it was such on all the ppv's they fought, never headlining any of them

Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. Randy Savage. Not only did this feud bring Savage out of "retirement" after loosing to the Ultimate Warrior @ WMVII , but this is the feud that turned the Undertaker face for the first time.

well im doing this by mid card title-
tag team- e/c vs dudleys vs hardys- this fued brought about the TLC match and also brought the phrase "bring out the tables" into every wrestling fans vocab plus this fued was off the hook with action.
european title- dx's domination of the title trading it back in forth with first british bulldog/owen then with nation of dominance when they had fueds with them. I awalys think about this dominance when i think about great title fueds.
intercontinetial- bret hart/ roddy pipper, most people forget this. It was a great fued that culminated in the best match of wrestlemnia 8and established the hitman
united states- cena vs carlito. its a shame after seeing this great fued that carlito isnt in the main event
hardcore- crash holly vs (godfathers ho's, pat patterson and brisco) the point in time when he lost and we won his title against all these people for me is one of the shining points of this title.
womens- sable vs jacqulin, this fued existed of bra's and all other fun goodies and brought sex big time to wwe
cruserweight- well i would have to say no fueds stood out to me from that title

I would say RVD vs jerry back in ecw awesome matches .
also the rock vs hhh (the nation vs dx) great ic title feud .
e/c vs hardys vs dudlys brought back some meaning to the tag titles .
but the one i rely enjoyed for some reason so much was aj vs daniels vs joe awesome feud i still go back and watch it some times i rely love it that made the x-division look so awesome and brought prestige to the title .

I gotta go with Angle/Edge from Smackdown, around 2002 (I think) as my favourite mid-card feud. It kept Angle going with someone talented enough to hang with him in the ring until the main event called for his return. It also showed Vinnie Mac that Edge could rumble with the big players, both in the ring and on the mic. Best match of the feud, easily, was their hair vs hair match that ended up with Kurt being shaved bald.

When I read the thread title I immediately thought of Jericho/Benoit circa 2000/01. They had so many great matches on PPV, TV & probably on the house show circuit as well. Sticking just with PPV, there was the 3-way with Angle at Mania, a great match at Backlash which ended in Jericho getting a DQ, a brilliant submission match at Judgment Day that would have been the best match on most cards. They had a blinder at Summerslam, 2/3 falls, it doesn't seem to get talked about much but was fantastic. And they had a blinder of a ladder match at the 01 Rumble.

It's a shame that when WWE come to release Jericho's boxset, as they will surely do sometime in the next few years, these matches won't be on it.

I hate to be batman, or whatever, but the best mid card feud in my books is Bret HArt vs The British Bulldog. Two incredible match,es, there was the in your house match that people think was their best, and there was my favourite. The Summerslam match in 1992, the year my brother was born. Now this match was between two brother in laws, and two future teammates. But at the time, they were in a great feud. Diana was at the forefront of it all, having to pick between brother or husband. The reaction at Wembley is still incredible in my mind. My favourite match of all time, and it was a time when the Midcard was able to pass the main event in importance at a Pay Per View. Can you imagine a Kofi Kingston match taking place at the end of the card? Neither can I.
