What in the world is Sting wearing?

I decided to watch TNA's Victory Road PPV after hearing about Hardy, so I took a moment to watch half of the PPV.

I noticed that Sting looks like a damn Spanish matador now. What happened to the classic black coat?
Also, was this just for the PPV, or is this his new 'style'?

the hell is that?

Like / dislike?

Thoughts?

Characters change. Despite how poor I think Sting's return has been handled so far, the only positive I can draw from it is the wardrobe change. C'mon- the black and white Sting has been around for almost fifteen years. The movie it was ripped off from was released in 1994. The character was long past overdue for an update.

they got him wearing a black coat in the 3-3-11 promo here he comes out on the day he won the title with a coat that looks like he ask William Regal for the coat and then put a scorpion symbol on the back of the coat and i know its not the same Sting from WCW i know that. Every year or so he comes up with a new style of face paint. I guess he trying something new, but i in my opinion I would prefer the WCW black and White Crow gimmick Sting

my first thought he was trying to do surfer Sting and Crow gimmick together because i would thought it was a bad idea

I think he's been wanting to go back to his surfer gimmick, and get away from his creepy crow gimmick for sometime. I'm gonna guess it's why he ultimately chose TNA. Vince would have made him Crow himself out, so he chose to end his career in obscurity, wearing a jacket he bought at Tito Santana's yard sale.

Does it really matter what Sting wore?:banghead: Like Rayne said, characters change so does their ring gear. So what if Sting change his coat? For all i care he could go back to the «Surfer Sting» style.

I don't mind Sting adding a little color to his gimmick, the red isn't so bad, just the fact that it's so flashy and glittery, is this Sting or Elton John? How does that flashiness fit with his character? Trying to pull off a Ric Flair look. The red padding would be fine, as a matter of fact hasn't he done a look like that before? But why the glitter? Also the fact that his pants now go over his boots just looks goofy. He looks like an old fogey wearing pajama pants. Why not still keep the boots on the outside? Wrestling boots with pants OVER them just looks strange.

Its really just ridiculous :banghead:
Surfer Sting fit the late 80's early 90's but who the hell has a blonde flat top anymore?
Crow Sting is like the Undertaker gimmick...they can try to vary it, but one way or another the character will always end up coming back, because its what the people want.
I am just afraid that pretty soon Sting will have his theme played by a mariachi band and change the scorpion to a bull:disappointed:
Especially after Victory Road the guy has to look in the mirror, wipe the glitter off his hands and think, "I passed up WWE and the Hall of Fame for this??!!:wtf: "

It looks pretty cool IMO but in the promo video he was wearing a black coat and he's done nothing to explain to us why he's wearing it. Guess he just wanted to look cool =]

I like it. The jacket reminds me a lot of his 80's, early 90s jackets that he wore...just a longer version. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the same boring black jacket. On the other hand, the rest of the attire is just weird and I still haven't gotten use to it. Sting is probably bored with the crow gimmick...the same look he has pretty much had for 15 years. A lot of today's popular clothing trends is influenced by 80's style clothing. So I see nothing wrong with Sting's jacket. The singlet could use some work though...

I actually don't mind his new get up at all. I think it helps to refresh his character a bit and the color really adds to the baby face side of things here. He's supposed to be a returning savior type — why would he come back as the Crow gimmick entirely again? It'd be as though he never left to begin with (save your jokes).

I'm sure at some point he'll return to his original gear, but for now this doesn't hurt a thing. I could do without the bubble things on the legs/crotch, but otherwise it gives his character a little depth, and frankly I was getting tired of watching him wrestle in tights and a t-shirt anyway. At least he's actually in a full set of tights for once.

I love sting and with how well he handles the crap that goes down in tna the dude can wear whatever he wants...........i also think it looks cool haha

I kinda like the new look even though it looks like he raided Flairs closet..He has to put up with Hogan/Bishoff let him wear what he wants.

Its good, he needed to shuffle something in his gimmick other than his vest designs. He really was going towards boredom coz of Bischoff and his intent top make him the crow again. Sting can talk and can carry a decent match. Let the man be.

What exactly does he have to explain? You want to waste time on a promo about his decision to wear a different jacket? In the late 90's when HHH started wearing the jean jacket with leather sleeves, he didn't explain that but business went on as usual, HBK didnt explain why he changed to a different style of pants, Undertaker didn't explain why he changed his music, Cena didn't explain why he went to a purple shirt. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Not every wardrobe decision requires explanations. When I get up in the mornings and get dressed, I don't explain to anyone why I chose a certain shirt.

As far as the jacket, I don't mind it. I think it does a good job of combining his 2 characters he's portrayed. Besides, it's just a jacket, it doesn't take away or add anything at all to his matches.

Don't like it. The Crow look was just intimidating as fuck. Let's face it, it had a more mysterious, eerie, "edgy" feel to it. This get up? Um.... no.

If he would have stayed away from the glitz of it, then maybe I could've bought it. A darker red, no shiny rhinestone cowboy stuff, etc.

Sting is exemplified by being the "crow type" character, watching above it all, and then coming in to devastate. Sure, he could've changed his attitude/approach around and been a little more chipper/happy-go-lucky, but I think ditching the crow appearance/adding too much glittery stuff isn't the way to go.

They could've toned it down quite a lot and had him look a little more foreboding instead of giving him the 80's member's only jacket w/Christmas tinsel look.

Why's everybody hating on the glitter? I don't mind it at all. The original sting was always VERY flashy and charismatic, and the wardrobe matched the character.

The Crow gimmik was a reaction to what was happening at the time and it was meant to show a sting that was "hiding in the shadows" in the rafters of the building.

I agree that the padding on the front of the outfit is just a little wierd, but no more than some of the crap I've seen other people wear over the years. I also think a lot of it is meant to hide the fact that Sting is not in the same shape he was in for most of his career. Sting was always known for having a great cardiovascular physique and right now his body reflects his actual age. He's using the black to hide his weight and the red draws your attention away fro his gut (not that he's in bad shape for a guy his age, he's just not 25 anymore).

Anyway, as long as the guy performs in the ring the way only he can, I don't care if he wears a tutu to the ring.

I think he kind of has a Ric Flair look to it. How ever I do like it because it makes him look young. I think he also died his hair. He looks good over all. I'm happy he feels good enough to even be wrestling.

Well for one it's certainly not just for the PPV to answer your question as I don't think anyone else did, he wore it on the episode of iMPACT where he returned and the week following.

I like it though, all the sparkly things, they make a guy look important, ask Ric Flair. I have no problem with the robe, never too old to have a wardrobe overhaul, why Taker wore I think about 3 or 4 different costumes this year in his sporadic appearances and nobody seemed to even notice. I'm fine with the robe and for me he didn't need to return in black just because he wore it in his vignettes, him wearing the black there was just to indicate who he was which we already knew anyway.

No for me the real story is his new face-paint gig, I love it. Honestly, however he is doing his paint now with the bloodied eye parts I have found that a great addition. I just in general like the change.

Sting looks fine - the color is an update along with the red in his face paint. The only thing that needs to change in his wardrobe is that Diva's belt.

Of course no one is better than WWE is horrible gimmicks !!
Gobbledeegooker, Saba Simba, Repo Man, etc..etc.
People need to stop picking on TNA for something they don't agree with.
I'll still take TNA over the boring re-hashed crap that WWe puits out.
How about that original main event at WM, HHH vs Undertaker !!
And people criticize TNA for not putting the young guys over !!
Come on !!!!
Sting looks cool no matter what outfit he uses..
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!

From the first time I saw that outfit, one thing popped in my mind.

It's Red and Yellow, who also wear's Red and Yellow? Hulk Hogan.

Anybody remember when Jay Lethal began wearing Red and Yellow before he dispeared off television for 3 month's?

Hogan probably told him to wear that outfit or he's not gonna be champion (Yes, his ego's that big). Seriosly, it's like The Undertaker coming out in that oufit, does'nt fit his character at all. If say, Sting still has a character.

Seriously, no way in Hell.

The outfit looks fine. Sting really can do whatever he wants. Quit nitpicking as he looks just fine. If you are going to Bitch about TNA stuff, at least find some worthwhile like, the fact that the direction of the company, in the span of a week, has taken a total nose dive?

One of the most bullsh*t posts I've seen.

Anyhow, sting looks fine. It's really a nice refreshing look, I like it.

Also, to whoever said he didn't explain his change.. What do you want, Sting cutting a promo like: "As you might have noticed... *pause*... I changed my jacket. *huge cheers*" .
