I was thinking about all of the threads that talk about what if Hogan never went to WCW. It had me thinking about what if it was HBK instead, especially when it comes to the nWo. The main problem with that his push came too late for that scenario, and he was a top name in the company after Hogan, Savage and a few of the other guys left. So I'm just going to give my two cents on how it would have gone differently if he got his push. Enjoy.
Instead of '91, February 1988, The Rockers split up, via "Sweet Chin Music" through the window, leading to a between the new HBK and Marty Janetty that end with Michaels pulling off a victory at Wrestlemania. Mart Janetty get's released from the company as he has nothing to really offer. They turn HBK face shortly after Wrestlemania and he begins feuding with people along the lines of Rude, Warrior, Savage. This begins to build his career up and fans are loving him. Come Summer time, he decides to wants to go after the Intercontinental Championship. He begins to feud with Honky Tonk man before Warrior interject himself into the feud, also wanting the title. In July there is a best of 3 series between HBK and Warrior to determine number one contender. HBK goes on to win, and ends Honky Tonks historic streak at Summerslam. HBK gets a decent run with it, where he feuds with guys like Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, and Rick Rude. He eventually drops it to Rude in a dirty finish. Rude would go on to lose it to Warrior. During this time HBK continues his feud with Bret Hart and other upper mid card guys. After Warrior vacates the title, HBK gets the strap again in April of 1990. Solid feuds and defenses. He drops that eventually to Mr. Perfect. In 1991 he takes Slaughters spot in winning the WWE Championship from Warrior. Hogan goes over him a couple months later after a very memorable match. HBK goes on to win a 3rd IC title in late 1991. January of 1992, HBK wins the Royal Rumble to pick up the vacated title. He drops it to Hogan again at Mania. He get's increasingly over throught the next 2 years, feuding with the bigger guys and not getting th title shot he deserves(similar to DB). In 1994 he joins the main even scene in WCW. Later instead of Macho coming over, Hart comes over. They pretty much play out the same roles as hogan and savage and main event with guys like Sting, Flair and Luger. HBK goes on to be the top babyface.
Come 1996, The Outsiders end up coming over to WCW and invading. Bash at the Beach end with Michaels giving the Sweet Chin Music to Bret Hart thus forming the nWo. They spray paint the belt and begin to follow the same course. Now at this point HBK wasn't a part of the Kliq with Nash, Hall, HHH and X-Pac. But him, Hall, and Nash begin to for the new Kilq and eventually HHH and X-Pac come over instead of having guys like Macho, and Beefcake. nWo runs rampant and is killing WWF who is still running the same ol' same ol big guy competitions with slow matches. nWo picks up Bret Hart, Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, the Giant. Rating are through the roof as nWo is wiping out all competitions and HBK is continually putting up 5 star title defenses at every ppv against guys like Flair, Sting, Luger. Guys like Bulldog and Owen Hart come over and get put over by HBK as main eventers. He drops the belt and picks it up a couple times. He drops the belt to Goldberg eventually just to help put him over as the new guy. Eventually guys like Chris Jericho, Benoit, Eddie Guerrero start coming up.
Meanwhile in WWF people are growing tired of the same old guys from the 80's dominating the title picture. WWF tries pushing guys like The Rock and Austin but they end up wasting so much money on keeping guys like Warrior, Hogan, Savage, Taker around. Fans are cheering for Austin and Rock, who are continuing to cut great promos while never making it past that glass ceiling.
WCW is making a killing and eventually Bischoff makes a deal to purchase WCW from Ted Turner. WCW disbands nWo and focuses on pushing newer talent. Each week WCW is squashing WWF in the ratings. Eventually guys like Rock, Austin, Foley come over to WCW as the Radicals(spelled with a fuckin "S"). Kurt Angle signs with WCW. WWE goes under eventually. WCW buys them out. They keep some of the good workers like Kane, Goldust, Taker. WWF talents end up joining a promotion that is started by Hogan and Dusty Rhodes called NWA: SCW(Superstar Championship Wrestling) and make a deal with Dixie Carter lol.
OK. I got a little wild towards the middle and end(ADD perhaps). But I satisfied my boredom for now.
