What if Edge is forced to retire?

I've been thinking, what if Edge can't wrestle any more... Mabye this thread has already been done, but this thread will be a few scene-arios incase Edge can't enter the ring again.
I'm no Edge fan, I admit that, I don't think the guy can wrestle for shit, but I do respect the man for putting his body through so much over the years, even though they did kind of "over push" him (9-word championships in 4 years).
But back to track, he does have some charisma, the WWE can still use him and have him be a big part of the business. Just like Tazz, I think he'll be great on the SmackDown! announce table with a smaller guy like Josh Matthews or Todd Grishem. Although in my opinion, he needs to get a little more emotion in his voice before he can start really cementing himself... What do you guys think?

If Edge retires Theo Mays (why am I talking in 3rd person??) will be very unhappy. Edge is one of my all time favorites and I love his work and his dedication to the business. While his many world title runs aren't important, it fit his gimmick well of getting the right opportunity to win the title. Now I think Edge would be a good announcer or GM of sorts. He is great on the stick and I think he has plenty of emotion when it comes to his mic work. I'd love to see him host Raw, that would be pretty badass, but highly unlikely. Edge has a future in this business outside of the square circle IMO.

If Edge retires the WWE will lose one of their best wrestlers. Edge would make a good GM he would be prefect for that role and it would be intresting to See Edge in a power role. Edge as a annouacer he would be good if his promo's were given a bit more of emotion

I remeber reading somewhere that Edge is having a really tough time rehabing his injury. Let's face it, a torn achilles tendon is a very serious injury. Even if he does come back, I don't think he'll be what he used to be as far as wrestling goes.

Edge would make a great heel GM. There really hasn't been a good heel GM since Vickie, and Edge would be a great choice for the next in line.

I have to be honest, I hope that this does NOT happen. Edge is injury prone, no doubt. But so is the Undertaker, And hes been champ multiple times over the course of the last 10 years. As with Batista, injury prone, but comes back and gets pushed

So I dont want to think of Edge, whom I still think can wrestle when he returns, I dont want to think of him being forced to retire.

He still has years he could give, but I would want him to stop on his own accord, not by being forced.

In sort of a twisted way, it actually may be for the best if Edge is forced to retire. And I don't want people to misconstrue my comments, but this isn't so much anything against Edge as it is WWE. WWE has this horrendous habit of always falling back on Edge and using him as Champion. They have gone to the well far too often with him, and Edge is a HUGE contributor to the WWE's overall staleness. Because they can not stop giving him the title ... with this "Ultimate Opportunist" gimmick of his.

I think it's sad when smarks start getting legitimately angry at WWE storylines and angles. And I'd like to say that where as I gripe about a lot of Creative things in WWE, very rarely do I get legitimately heated and angry over things that they do. This is one of those things that legitimately makes me angry, as it is that big factor I talked about in contributing to the staleness of the product. And it prevents others from being developed by constantly resorting to Edge as champion.

Either:

1) I hope he recovers and WWE turns him Face, gives him a new character, and keeps him away from a Heavyweight title ...

or

2) If WWE has not learned their lesson and wants to go back to the well once again, I hope he does stay retired.

Say he rehabs the injury and comes back anew. It's very likely they will turn him face, and it would be really hard for the WWE to keep a face away from a Heavyweight title.

Flip the coin, and say the injury is too serious for him to make a full in-ring return. I personally think a GM role would be a bad fit for him. He could also not be in a Ric Flair post-retirement situation, and go around making promotional appearances for the company. Edge's place is in that ring, and seeing him as a GM or someone's manager just seems unnatural.

I think he will do whatever it takes to come back from the injury, so he can continue to put on matches and do what he does best.

I'd be a veryyy sad WWE fan. I've always been a huge Edge fan. I love the Rated-R Superstar. I love his promos, the man's gold on the mic. He can get repetitive sometimes, but he usually doesn't. His in-ring work is solid, it's consistent. He doesn't take as many risks as he used to, well he's older now. He's no spring chicken. He can't do the same old shit he used to do. He can still put on a damn good match and can work with anyone! I read also that he was having a hard time rehabbing and that it was more serious than first thought. That fucking sucks. The man's already tore up his neck. Plus i'm sure a whole lot of other things have been broken. It's rough not seeing Edge on Smackdown anymore. I was curious to see where the Rated-Y2J championship reign was going.

Smackdown would lose a great wrestler but we've seen they can survive without him. Great wrestlers have stepped up to the heel void such as Punk and Batista. Batista has impressed me greatly and Punk is gold. I would love to see Edge as Raw's permanent GM.

It would hurt the WWE in the short run. He is a great talent in the ring and on the mic. He is one of my favorite wrestler to watch because he can just about do it all. I wouldn't say that they over pushed him, but they certainly made his title reigns not as impressive. Will the WWE miss him if he is forced to retire? Yes they will. Will they survive? Yes they will. Wrestling has always had a revolving door with old talent leaving with new talent coming in. As much as I would miss Edge he would be replaced by someone eventually and his name would be remembered as a WWE Hall of Famer. Plus im sure if he was forced to retire from the ring that WWE would give him some position in the company be it on tv or behind the scenes. He's a company man and the WWE tends to take care of those guys.

I'd like to not think about this possibility, although it's a very realistic option. I believe it will be very hard for Edge to come back from this current injury, so if he end up being forced into retirement, I can see him going down in the Hall of Fame and being remembered as one of the greats. At the same time, I can't help but believe that if this were to happen, that Edge would not fully retire, rather just rehab and work out some more until he could actually make a full return. Who knows though? Anything can happen and as IndyJon said, the wrestling industry has a revolving door of talent and just as people leave new talent arrives. At the same time though, I don't feel like Edge could ever be replaced or duplicated.

Of course it'd be a blow if Edge retired. I've missed him being apart of Smackdown since he left, he entertains me. The number of title reigns isn't at all relevant in my opinion, his gimmick is to kick you while you're down and steal the title. Maybe he's pulled the move too many times over the past couple of years, maybe not. Either way, he's a solid main eventer and if he doesn't come back he'll be sorely missed, atleast by me anyway.

What if I'm unhappy with Edge in this current character? That is my primary beef with WWE Creative as I am sick and tired of seeing Edge in this role. He's done it for far too long. And I realize that people may say "Well, it's his character to do that." I'm just absolutely bored and disgusted with seeing him do this, and he needs to move on into another role.

Edge is truly a boring champion. With him as Champion, you can be guaranteed that you will get absolutely nothing new from what you have gotten since 2005/2006.

Honestly, I think thst Edge should return to the ring. Seriously, I am a huge fan. But look at the world title, the undertaker is probbaly the best choice! If he can try not to get another broken neck, STAY AWAY FROM THE WROLD TITLE!! Maybe if he goes for the wwe... I mean cena has had it alot, and it's going nowhere... He can return and go for the wwe title... But if he was going to have to be GM, wow Raw will be great!!! Batista, mysterio, Kane, Cm punk, Jeff, all of them r on SD. Wih no real competiton besides DX and Kofi and orton, edge can turn that around. But I still think he should return as a superstar

I don't know. I kind of miss when I used to get angry at stupid crap ("Oh, man, why didn't they just do X? That would have been good. This is ******ed. Why did they make Wrestler A do that? He was good/entertaining and now his character is stupid.") rather than just expecting stupid crap.

Sidious, I just don't see that you have a point here. I don't have any problem with his character trying to sleaze his way into the world title. Maybe I'll just accept any wrestling story if it's basically consistent with the characters. (Unless the character itself makes me completely roll my eyes.)

As for staleness, ironically, Edge's injuries actually kind of keep him fresh. When he comes back, it won't be with Vickie Guerrero and La Familia, or with Lita. Maybe just have him on his own--we haven't seen that in a while, have we? Maybe give Edge a run for a year or so after coming back where he keeps trying to sleaze his way into a title, but falls short?

Or just have him and Christian popcorn the Tag Team titles back and forth with Jerishow. Squeeze one-week Hart Dynasty, Legacy and Kofi-Booker reigns in their somewhere, and you have Edge's dance card filled for most of 2010 without having him anywhere near the World title.

Happy Sidious? Good, Because That's Good For Business!!

I like Edge alot and its obvious smackdown was hurt slightly due to his injury. Edge was heel main-eventer for the brand and it's been tough shoes to fill. Mostly because Edge had alot of heat build up over the years for always sleezing his way to the Heavyweight Title.

I have to agree with Sidious Edge's charecter is worn out. I'd love to see him come back with a new gimmick and make a huge impact in the WWE main events cause it could sure use it.

Im truthfully hoping that the "news" about him having a "harder time recovering, then he thought" stuff- is a work. Just to keep "us internet guys" off kilter. A Royal Rumble return would excitre me.

I think the return of Edge as a FACE & the obvious looming fued with a heel Jericho has "GOLD" written all over it! Whens the last time Edge was a real face? Was it back when he was still with Christian? The guy is magic on the mic! & I think him as a face, could possibly turn him into the WWEs next "golden boy". Maybe even allowing SuperCena to turn heel! :scratchchin: Maybe soon you will see Edge as the one in the movies. Wasnt The Rock a face to start, then became a heat magnet... & His insuing face-turn worked out pretty well for WWE & Rock, no?

Adam Copeland WILL be back to wrestle in WWE! & Soon he will be held in the same regard as The Rock & yes...even SCSA!!

Im just sayin...

What would be more interesting is to think what about his gimmick? Screw the Ultimate Opportunist, I'm talking about the rated R superstar. In the PG Era, this simply does not compute. Or does it? We are talking about Edge being stale, but I don't think that has anything to do with the man himself. Rather, he is such a good heel, WWE had no choice but to use him. After 5 or 6 years oh his heel act, I think they really ran out of places to go with him. Even teaming him up with Jericho was just a sort of re-hash of Rated RKO. but in anycase, he is a great heel.

So why should they take the risk of bringing him back face? As many fans have been calling for it, it leaves you wonder how this Rated R gimmick could fit in. I would say it would be the same way in which DX got everyone love. By being rude, crass, adult, but doing in a face manner. He would totally go against the bounds of the direction the company is heading, abnd would become a fan favourite as your rule breaker. because quite honestly, Edge can never go babyface. He doesn't have the look, nor can he leave his heelish ways behind. They tried making him a huge face after his return in 2004 and he was booed. He's too good at it for that. Rather, by mixing the gimmicks and being a face, he could be revitalised.

But thats talk for another thread. Rather, what we're looking at is the end of Edge's career possibly looming. I don't think it will happen, as although it would be seriously detrimental to NFL players and the like, Wrestlers can probably make it back from a torn achilles tendon. If he couldn't, I'm sure he'd have a place at the WWE. He could easily become a hated manager or GM, as I have said, he's great at that. He doesn't strike me as the colour commentator though, as I feel he would be better suited to an on screen role, rather than sitting behind a desk.

That would be horrible, he is on of the best wrestlers in the biz, of course he can wrestle, but I think he should be used to bring up younger superstars. but I wonder, if he is forced to retire, I would welcome him to a GM spot or color commentator.

it will suck because edge is great, i don't believe for one second that edge will be a commentator, yeah he can talk but he is to energetic and pro-active to be rooted behind a table for 2 hours, he is the man, been extremly consistent since 2000, unlike some people (christian) and just generates a lot of intrest by his personality alone, plus at 36, that will be a shame if he retires ,still young. so here's to edge being healthy and returning in 2010, holla.

I think that Edge is too young to retire just yet. I've seen some of his matches, and he is a good performer. I mean, wouldn't it hurt if he were to give you a spear to the gut? I know it would to me. But besides that, at thirty-six years old, he still has some more time to impress McMahon and the McMandroids, so that he can eventually become the new HHH, as far as having many title reigns is concerned (lol).
