or at least a decent enough push to keep him in the uppermiddle/mainevent for years. K, the year is 92/93, the newcomer Cactus Jack had a very long feud with Sting that cultimated in what Mick Foley called his best match for a long while, for the WCW title. Then had a feud with Ron Simmons for the WCW title, then had a very brutal feud with Vader for the same said WCW title. So essentially Cactus Jack was in the WCW title picture for a while in 92/early 93. Then we all know of that career killer story-line about the 'mental hospital', and his career never recovered.
So what if he came back like he wanted, kinda like Hardcore Holly when he came back vs Lesner, angry and just wanting to destroy him now? What if he won the WCW title before Vader lost it to Flair at the end of the year? What if he managed to stay in the upper-middle card of WCW for several years to follow? I'm also curious to your opinion's on how he would've fit in with the whole NWO thing? And if your willing to go that far out there, how would he have affected the whole WWF/WCW war being on WCW, WWF still be WCW, how would Foley be in WWF, and how would it affect is legacy (I'd imagine he'd never be as big as he is even if he were successful in WCW).
Well, I don't see why he and Vader could've fought back and forth for the title till Flair would've won it in December. It would've been a killer feud with the matches they were having, and it would've be benifical for both men. In a year and a bit, Cactus had shown that he could work with just about any one from a star like Sting to an average star like Van Hammer. To be champion would've been good for Cactus. He's was genuinely liked by a lot of people backstage. But then Bishoff and others in power came in and suddenly Cactus wasn't cool enough or a big enough draw any more. Pushes suddenly went to old wrestlers and wrestlers with huge egos instead of many of the hard working bunch like Cactus and Austin and then later with Jericho and Benoit and manu others. I think Cactus could've made a very successful US champion/uppermiddle carder, as he was very good a putting people over, as well as himself. But probably would've never gotton a chance to hold the WCW title after 93 because during this time, like TNA is sort of doing, they began putting the title on every old big name or WWF star that came on over.
As for the NWO thing, I'm not sure how Cactus would fit in with it. Much like Foley stated about his time during the attitude era in WWE, he felt his character was being left behind and old. Cactus may not have fit i either with the cool NWO group, although he was friends with Nash. But he could've been in it, just about everyone was, and he might've made a big deal, big hardcore tough wrestler who doesn't fit in joining the cool group, it could've gotten a little added heat, after NWO, who really knows how Cactus's career would've gone, but it most certainly wouldn't have gone past the middle card. Cactus I could see being like Rick Steiner, but not much better after the NWO ended and WCW was in it's last stages.
As for Foley's legacy, it probably wouldn't be anywhere near where it is today. He probably wouldn't have written his book, it definitly wouldn't have had his fairy tale ending. I'm not gonna speculate on if he would go to WWE during the Invasion or its effect on WWE/WCW war as it go any way because, but no Foley in WWE means no memorable HellinCell match with Taker, no three time WWF champion, no matches in japan and ECW. Basically he'd probably be like most old WCW stars who aren't wrestling, which would be a shame for someone who loves wrestling so much and has worked so hard during his career. So, pretty obvious statement, Foley getting f'ed with a stupid storyline and leaving a fairly good paying job most poor people like me would never give up, was the best thing that could've ever happened to him. Thoughts on what if Foley beat Vader for the title? Please write below.
