What didn't hold viewers attention in the XFL?

As we all know and saw, Vince McMahon's created XFL football league folded after one season due to not getting good ratings. XFL games came NBC and UPN (now the CW) network stations for ten weeks straight with finally the L.A. Extreme as the leagues first & last XFL champions by defeating the San Francisco Demons.

The XFL changed some of there football rules to be diffrent from the NFL. Like for a punt return kick the punt returner would have to be five steps back instead of the standard two. And the "human coin toss" was just...wow.

But some people might say that the XFL didn't last because of the fact that the owner of the XFL was the chairman of a wrestling company, what a joke! So all in all, what besides the ratings made for the XFL to fold?

Shitty football? Honestly the XFL was filled with a bunch of guys who just weren't very good football players. That's why every league outside the NFL usually folds pretty quickly. The AFL is one exception and even they aren't doing too great financially. Plus the shortened field with boards makes it almost like the street ball version of football which is a lot more innovative then the things the XFL did.

The only players from the XFL to do anything of note in the NFL were Tommy Maddux and Mike Furrey. Hehateme was a solid special teams guy as well and I guess Corey Ivy is an ok nickel back. That's just 4 guys that did anything even remotely noteworthy in the NFL. The ratings sucked, NBC wouldn't broadcast it a second season, and the talent just wasn't there. That's why it closed.

Umm yeah, just like Big Sexy said, the XFL was just shit. That's why it never was able to survive. The only thing worth watching in the XFL was their version of a coin toss:

They tried to put a spin on football as far as the rules and attitude go, but it just didn't work out. I was still kind of young when the XFL started, but I still remember how bad a lot of the games were, and the quality of football was just not on the same level as the NFL. Tommy Maddox went on to have a pretty nice run with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he never won a Super Bowl or did anything that memorable. The XFL will be forgotten/mocked in the long run, and I'm sure Vince McMahon would also like to forget this whole thing ever happened.

Maybe because if you could make it as an American Footballer, then you would be in the NFL, if you couldnt then you'd have to settle for the NFL. So it would be like watching substandard sport when the real thing is easily accessible. Along with maybe the expectation of participation/more participation of the WWF superstars. Also, the wrestling audience would most likely be that audience too, because of the Vince McMahon connection so that may have been a problem area too. Real football fans would not watch it as seriously as they would a proper football match, it might be those kind of if its on and you're free situations, not that its on and you must see it.
