What Could Be: CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho

Getting Noticed By Management
ok guys first time thread here. Just read this:

http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/239869-exclusive-the-truth-behind-chris-jerichos-qcm-punkq-tweet

Chris Jericho caused quite a stir on Twitter last night, reacting negatively towards CM Punk mentioning his name on WWE Monday Night Raw. Jericho tweeted:

"Everyone is so excited that @CMPunk mentioned me on Raw. Newsflash...I don't give a shit. Mind ur own business and stop rippin me off Punk."

WrestleZone has learned exclusively from a key WWE insider that Jericho has been pitching for himself to work with Punk at WrestleMania next year. Additionally, we can confirm that this reaction is story line oriented, and that there is no real bad blood between Punk and Jericho following Raw tonight.

More on this story as it develops.

Not sure how the rest of you see this but to me this could be EPIC. Imagine the mic work, the back and forth promos. Not to mention the caliber match these 2 could/should have. This match may in fact steal the show from Cena/Rock if WWE allows it to play out.

Your thoughts on this potential amazing match? And how would YOU go about booking this storyline given both of their abilities on the mic and in the ring?

(Sorry if this thread has been done I looked for it in the WWE section but didn't see anything. And it's my first time posting so not really sure if I needed any other quotes/citing or anything)

as soon as I saw the tweet, I thought "WORK"

I recall listening to the Bill Simmons Podcast with Punk and Punk referenced Jericho as one of the guys he really liked and respected.

To me, this is a dream match, the promos would be amazing and the match could be match of the year quality.

CM Punk is going to be "that guy" everyone wants to work with for a while.

What it would do, is make Rock/Cena look like garbage, I think that match could be really lackluster, unless the fans make it amazing

It may be over twitter, but I believe that with the new 'Reality' style era that Cm Punk is trying to bring about that as a starting ground for the feud it will work quite well. These guys are arguably two of the best on the mic at the moment.

With the push WWE is giving punk at the moment, (posting him all over WWE.com and having him at the top of raw for the time being) Jericho would be a perfect opponent to cement his position at the top

Whoever said Jericho vs Punk will make Rock vs Cena look like shit is a dumbass.

You DO know that doing a bunch of moves doesn't make a good match right? This isn't gymnastics, it's storytelling.

As far as Jericho vs Punk goes. Jericho could definately make this awesome. Punk is the angry indy rock fan outside the music store that writes poems and lyrics in a journal and thinks he's this amazing artistic intrinsic person. Jericho is the guy who walks by and calls him a loser.

"The best in the world at what he does" vs. "The best in the world"

This match has the potential to be the best match in WWE of this DECADE, let alone year. Imagine this for a second.

Punk loses the title at Night of Champions sort of time, to win it back in the OPENING match of the Royal Rumble PPV.
Royal Rumble comes up. We get to man 37 (presuming we stay at a 40 man rumble).
Suddenly all of the lights fall black, we focus on the titantron, all action in the ring comes to an abrubt end...
Countdown begins. In Jericho fashion, followed by the trademark music.

Jericho comes out, crowd go NUTS, Jericho cleans house and wins the Royal Rumble...thus setting up CM Punk vs Chris Jericho for the WWE title.

This to me would be an ABSOLUTE dream match and I would LOVE to see it happen. Jericho would bring the absolute best out of Punk and vice versa. The angle contained, the actual matches. My god, it's like a teenage wet dream for wrestling fans everywhere. WWE needs to make this happen and needs to let Jericho face Punk...the draws would be AMAZING.

Not to mention - if they DO go down this route of attitude vs. PG era for this PPV...
with Rock vs. Cena headlining, Jericho would fit PERFECTLY. Jericho v Punk would be ideal for this PPV.

Couldn't care less.

I have no interest in seeing Punk dwindle back down the card again. Pairing him up with Jericho would do just that. When you already have Cena/Rock, Orton/Whoever he ends up against, and whatever match Taker is in, a Punk/Jericho feud is definitely going to be a low priority. I'd much rather let Jericho try to take on Taker and leave Punk to take on Hunter or even Austin. I want to see Punk become a big deal and stay there.

Not to mention the whole I'm fucking sick to death of heel Jericho thing. That's what I get from this anyway. If he is a face, I suppose that makes things a bit more interesting but I still think it's not enough of a high profile match for Punk at Wrestlemania.

Not everyone can be main event for WRESTLEMANIA though.

Either way. If Punk faces Austin/H/Jericho, it's the SAME thing. It's a MID CARD feud on a high profile card...I mean Rock/Cena is main event. Taker's 20-0 streak match is 2nd main. At least if they do THIS match for the WWE title...it'll be a third main event added. Punk/H or Punk/Austin WILL be main event and he'll be a jobber to the stars for it.

Lets say.
Punk WINS at Summerslam and keeps the title through til Mania...he's known as WWE undisputed champ. Jericho returns and is known for being the first ever undisputed champ...that this WON'T be a big match if it's for the title Sandy? This would have the air of one of the biggest matches on the card.

Punk IS staying main event but like I said, not everyone CAN main event Mania.

Although I agree it would be an awesome feud with many great promos and memorable matches I don't want this to happen. This would be Punk going down in the card like someone else mentioned. Does Rock and Cena really need the title in the match to be great? I would much rather have a WWE Title match with Punk in (having him in one of the main events) and Rock Vs Cena. I think Punk needs to feud with Triple H for the WWE Title so it's like Trips is getting back the company and then Punk is not going back and is in one of the main feuds and then Rock Vs Cena will still be era vs era.

I think it definitely has "Match Of The Year" caliber written all over it. These two guys can really deliver on the mic and in the ring. I think Jericho has definitely reached lengendary status. He can be mentioned in the same breath as, Bret, Shawn,Flair, Rock etc. Jericho can give Punk that "rub", and "pass the torch" so to speak... As mentioned before, the build-up to the match can be a hell of a ride in itself! I think Vince ans Co. would like Cena vs. Rock their main agenda, so Punk vs. Jericho might not get made...Maybe. It would definitely be a treat for those of us who still appreciate pure wrestling...

Whoever said Jericho vs Punk will make Rock vs Cena look like shit is a dumbass.

Well I don't think Jericho v Punk will make the Rock and Cena look like shit. Lets face it... When is the last time Cena told a story with his wrestling. He isn't Jake Roberts. When is the last time the Rock wrestled? He wasn't exactly a ring psychologist.

Jericho is far more entertaining and skilled than both in the ring. Punk on any given night.

Will they make them look liek shit. Nope! Could they outperform them and steal the show. Absolutely!

How many more timezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Rock vs Cena will be for the WWE Title. Not Punk vs Jericho. Why do people still persist in making WWE Title matches for Wrestlemania.

Anyway...Punk vs Jericho, potential to be a great fued. Personally would prefer Jericho vs Miz and Punk vs Triple H at Mania.

I could SERIOUSLY see this being the best match on the card if they do it at wrestlemania. Sure, Cena/Rock is obviously going to be the big draw of the night but this match should steal the show. I know it's a little to early to say that considering WM is still 7 or 8 months away, but knowing the ability that these 2 guys have it seriously should happen. This is a match I've wanted to see for a while, and I'm hoping that if it does happen they make it an Iron Man match.

In my opinion Jericho vs Punk is a dream match for Wrestlemania and would be the match of the night. Punk doesn't need to loose to Undertaker, By then Punk vs Cena will be old, HHH vs Punk is probable for Survivor Series is what were hearing. Jericho and Punk are both awesome talent in the ring and on the microphone. This could start with Y2J's return and they could have a great 30 plus minute match.

This is a must for Wrestlemania in my opinion for wrestling fans. entertainment wise were already getting Rock/Cena, Of course Taker/ someone possibly HHH again. Punk/Jericho would make the show amazing!!

When is the last time Cena told a story with his wrestling.

Raw last week. Before that, Money in the Bank.

For someone who wrote an entire book debunking his own hype, Chris Jericho's sure got an attitude, hasn't he? He's especially got an attitude towards other wrestlers, and appears to adore accusing them of ripping him off. When he does it to Miz, it seems like jovial (if tiresome) rib-nudging. This, however, seems more malicious.

For the record, I'm not taking WrestleZone's fan fiction (or, as they call it, an "exclusive") seriously. So, yeah, I'm not swallowing this:

WrestleZone has learned exclusively from a key WWE insider that Jericho has been pitching for himself to work with Punk at WrestleMania next year. Additionally, we can confirm that this reaction is story line oriented, and that there is no real bad blood between Punk and Jericho following Raw tonight.

If this is a work, I'm being worked. So be it. I'm tired of Chris Jericho. I'm tired of him getting drunk and taunting MMA fighters. I'm tired of him punching women. I'm tired of him accidentally letting slip homophobic slurs. I'm tired of him overusing ellipsis. I'm tired of his shitty band. Chris, take the overrated body of work you call a ball and go home.

I'm a much bigger fan of Jericho than I am of HBK, but if I had my choice for WM it wouldn't be Jericho/Punk. I'd want Punk/Austin or Punk/HBK. The mic work for any of the three would be stellar at worst. But Jericho/Punk doesn't have the same big time feel that HBK/Punk or Austin/Punk does to me.

I like it.

Jericho is great on the mic and in the ring. The promos alone would be worth it and I would expect the match to be excellent.

However, I would book it for the WWE Title because Cena/Rock doesn't need it and if they want Punk to be a future star in the company the match will need a championship because let's be honest, Chris Jericho is not that big a star in WWE history.

So I say yay if it's for the title.

Four Words. What. Sandy. Cervix. Said.

I have no interest in seeing CM Punk go back down the card and that is where he will go if he feuds with Chris Jericho after feuding with the likes of John Cena and Triple H. Chris Jericho may mean a lot to the lots of the IWC but to a vast majority of the WWE Universe, he is nothing but a midcarder. Tell me, what was the last thing Jericho did? OK he participated in a main event with Orton where he got kicked off like a random jobber, but before that, he was actually losing to the likes of Evan Bourne. Jericho is someone who is mainly a midcarder who transitions to ME level when no one is around. How could working with such a guy benefit CM Punk? We know Punk is a bit pissed that Dwayne is in the ME of WrestleMania. As WrestleMania nears, Punk is bound to bring that up again. He would liketo steal the show at WrestleMania by being in a match of equal importance as Cena vs Rock. Punk vs Jericho, which has been done before if I may add, is not that match.

While Punk vs Jericho will in no way be greater than Rock vs Cena, if you even think that Punk vs Jericho will be great because of Jericho, you should probably stop writing that shit that constitutes you daily diet.

Jericho is at best an overrated midcarder and CM Punk is the hottest property in wrestling currently. He is feuding with John Cena and is slated to feud with HHH and unless he feuds with the likes of Alex Riley, Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne after that, he will be on a much higher card as compared to Jericho by the time WrestleMania 28 rolls in. Punk has done nothing to be called a loser both in kayfabe and outside kayfabe and at this point he deserves a wrestler much higher on the card than Jericho.

Jericho is at best an overrated mid-carder.. I've heard it all now!

Those who also say that Rock vs Cena won't be a good match is ridiculously stupid.. Cena does normally put on good matches, just not always the level you'd expect the face of the WWE to put on. Rock was always in top notch matches, some may say it was down to him always working with awesome people, but regardless of that he always brought his A game. Their match at Mania will be off the charts and anybody who disagree's is a numpty!

Now if Punk and Y2J did go off against each other it would be awesome, probably wouldn't be as main an attraction as the inevitable taker match, and whatever match HHH is in, but still it will be a good match nonetheless. I don't doubt that if they did wrestle (which they probably won't, at mania atleast) they would put on epic matches, they always do.

Punk needs to face off against HHH, or Austin or somebody. Daniel Bryan is meant to be in a world title match, if that is the route they decide to take by then. Taker will either be against HHH again or probably somebody like The Miz, Barrett or Sheamus. If they are going to do rematches with Taker at WM, I'd rather see Orton go against him one last time.

Jericho is at best an overrated mid-carder.. I've heard it all now!

To be honest I should have prefixed that with vastly and suffixed it with "by the IWC".

Tell me whom Chris Jericho's last five feuds have been against. He feuded with Mysterio over the IC belt which was a midcard feud. He then feuded with Legacy and DX over the tag titles along with Big Show, another midcard feud. He then feuded with Edge which was a main event feud but it was like the fourth biggest match on the WrestleMania card or perhaps even lower than that. Edge and Jericho never main evented any PPV. He then spent his time elevating the likes of Evan Bourne, Hart Dynasty, Kofi Kingston and John Morrison before getting punted like a jobber by Orton. And don't even think for a second that he elevates superstars because he wants to contribute to the business. Actually he may be contributing to the business but he does it to stay relevant in it because there is no chance in hell that he will be given a huge push unless someone is out injured. Which is precisely what happened when Cena was injured in 2008. Even then with Batista around, he kept the title for as little time as was possible and was mostly hotshotted the title so that Cena could have a victorious return against a heel.

I think that this would be an amazing match with an equally great build. Punk would be booked as an antihero face and Jericho could be in his "best at what I do" persona. Punk calls him out on not being the best, and the feud takes off from there. I would have Punk win because he is on a roll and going over a guy like Jericho would help him tremendously. This would be the best feud in years!

I wouldn't have a problem with this if Punk goes over at Wrestlemania. While I would much rather see Jericho be the next one to attempt to end Undertaker's streak, a Punk/Jericho match is not something I'd be against. From a technical wrestling standpoint, it does have the potential to steal the show (although I don't find it likely with Cena/Rock as the main event). Both are excellent mic workers (well... Jericho is when he's not calling all of us hypocrites and tapeworms) and could build their feud with their mic work alone. I don't know about Jericho being overrated since I don't look at him as some wrestling messiah but I don't think having him work with Punk would be a bad thing.

This match would steal the show.. Always been a hardcore Jericholic..I know Rock-Cena is gonna get promoted to death, so they might not focus a lot on this one.. But Punk/Jericho has what it takes to totally outclass Rock-Cena.. Sure it will be a lot better in terms of both; quality of the promos and the match.. Needless to say, Rock will totally suck in the ring.. WRESTLEMANIA IS JERICHO... "Rock, you bring what ?? Vomit Bags.." - Jericho..

If punk was granted creative control and he's pushing for him vs Jericho. He is not the wrestling mind people clam he is. Yea it might be the match that steals the show. But he shouldn't be tring to steal it. He should be trying to headline it. He has to have the sense to mention Austin. At least triple h at mania not survivor series but jericho say hello to ur wrestlemania 28 curtain jerker. Hey maybe christian he's not booked yet.

If these guys were to fight, I really think that Chris Jericho would win. I say this because he is more talented and has way more moves than CM Punk does. Kind of like Ric Flair.

I don't know if Punk wrestling Jericho would be a step down for Punk. After all Jericho is a former Undisputed Champion. If Punk wins against Cena it could be set up to where Punk makes the claim that he is the undisputed champion and therefore he is the best. Then Jericho comes out and says hey I was the FIRST undisputed champion.

But if you think about it I'd personally love it if WWE set up Mania to be Attitude Era vs. Present Era.
Cena vs. Rock,
Jericho vs. Punk,
Undertaker vs. Whoever WWE decides is the best candidate (preferably a newer guy),
HHH vs. ???
Maybe get a Trish or Lita return going on and they face off against Beth Phoenix or KHARMA (assuming Kharma returns in time)

:worship:BTW Thanks to the Mod who moved this I wasn't sure which section to put it in since it's not officially being talked about by WWE just speculation/ideas being pitched :worship:
