CM Punk or Chris Jericho?

Damn it, what a good thread.
Well, as you may of realised i'm a HUGE fan of both Jericho and Punk and making me choose between them is the work of the devil.
However, after much deliberation it has to be none other than Y2J. Jericho is the most consistent loyal and hard-working man I have ever known. From writing great books, being in an awesome band, raising his two children and being the best in the World at wrestling, I wonder whether the guy even sleeps. He's unbelievably clever, quick and witty on the mic and is better than some of the greats at proper wrestling. He can be a high-flyer, a matt-technician or even a power house. The guy is the living definition of adaptable.
I like Punk a lot, however, some of his match seem a bit sloppy as if he didn't really care and i get the feeling from him that he isn't actually that much of a nice person out of the ring. He is just as great as Jericho on the mic however in the ring Jericho is invincible. God, I wish he would return soon.
Anyway, all I know is that Jericho is my favourite and a feud in between CM Punk and Jericho would make me jizz in my pants.

Jericho.

It's a tough choice and had to think about it but I think Jericho is the full package. He can be hilarious or down right cold. He's a great face but a greater heel.

CM Punk is still finding his place. He's pretty funny and his heel promos receive a great reaction. Give him a few more years and I won't participate in the choice between him and Jericho. It will be too difficult.

are you guys kidding me? This is ridiculous, I hate how every time someone does something good people start praising that guy as an all-time great while disrespecting all of the legends who actually deserve to be called all-time greats. The Miz the new Roddy Piper? Dolph Ziggler the new Curt Hennig? CM Punk better than Jericho? Either no one has watched a wwe show before 2010 or everyone on this forum has Alzheimer's because there is no comparison between Punk and Jericho - Jericho is arguably the most well-rounded wrestler in the history of the industry, and I'm sorry but Punk is not near his level in any capacity of wrestling

Love Punk but Jericho in my eyes is the most complete performer of all time which is a true great compliment. But Punk is no slouch for sure look at the buzz he created in 25 minutes of mic time these past weeks.

A month ago, it would have been a very tough choice, and I might have ended up going with Jericho. Now, I have to say Punk.

Mainly because Punk's latest angle has the potential to catapult him into levels of megastardom that Jericho was never fortunate enough to reach. CM Punk has been called the 2011 version of Stone Cold Steve Austin, and while I'm normally against the whole "this guy is the new that guy" idea, I kind of agree with it in this case. Just like Austin, Punk is anti-authority and represents the people who wish they could do and say the things that he's doing and saying. And because of that, along with his high merchandise sales (which is always a key proponent), he may become a huge babyface from this.

If Jericho comes back, he'll be a great heel again, but he won't get to the level that Punk could get to. Not really a knock on him as much as them not investing that much stock into him when they really had the chance. He's also older now and doesn't have nearly as much time left as Punk does. So yeah, if I had to pick one right now, at this very moment, it would be Punk in a no brainer.

I have been watching Jericho from the time he debuted in the WWF but I have never been enamoured by him. He has supposedly cut great promos and participated in great feuds but the only two times I have taken any sort of interest in him is when he feuded with HHH in 2000 and when he has feuded with HBK. His feud with Christian was also very good but that was because of Christian, in my opinion. I frankly found him boring as a babyface. As a heel he was obviously better but he has just another cocky heel who has made minor changes to his character. The cockiness though is the most essential trait of his character. I do believe that he is one of those guys that gets a lot of credit by the IWC for being selfless or some crap like that.

Punk, on the other hand, has been one of my favorite superstars in the current times. The first thing that has drawn me towards him is his unique gimmick. In an age of one dimensional dial tone personalities, his straight edge gimmick has really stood out for me. When some other heel says he is the best, it looks like he is just talking out of his ass but when Punk says it, it means a lot. Maybe that is so because he is straight edge. He is powerful enough to resist the temptation of drinks and drugs which a lot of people aren't able to. That makes me believe in him. That makes me believe that he could do whatever he intends to do.

I also think that Punk cuts better and more diverse promos on a more regular basis than Jericho. His promos against Jeff Hardy were different from his promos against Rey Mysterio which in turn were different from his promos against Orton or Cena. Jericho was good but I have felt that in a particular phase of his career, he has cut the same type of promos. His promos as a face from 1999-2001 felt the same. His stuff as the hghlight reel was different from his stuff as a face but in that character he seemed to cut exactly the same promo each night. The same could be said for his "Best in the World at what I do character."

As for matches, this is one place that Jericho scores over Punk. But Punk is still very young and I feel that his best is yet to come.

So, to summarize I would say Punk is a better character than Jericho. He is a better promo cutter than Jericho too. While Jericho could be the better in-ring talent, I believe Punk has the ability to surpass him one day.

Easily Chris Jericho. As a kid I grew up watching and admiring Jericho, and Punk showed up around the time I lost interest in watching weekly (these days I only catch the major PPVs) but I think both men have established great legacies for themselves in the ring. The main problem with this thread I feel is that we've yet to see the best of Punk, and as we've seen from his recent work, he is most certainly getting there. But Jericho's already acquired the status of legend of the business, he was the first Undisputed Champion, has had incredible feuds and matches with the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H and Kurt Angle and has established a character that is still unforgetable to this day.

I'm not trying to say it's impossible for Punk to surpass Jericho, and I certainly think he could, but he's got a lot to do before he does.

Right now? CM Punk... But only right now. Don't get me wrong, they are both excellent at what they do (some might even say they are the best in the world at what they do), but CM Punk is at the peak of his career, continually delivering the best moments of Raw week in, and week out. Granted, I don't think he necessarily has the star power of Chris Jericho, but for right now it's his time to shine. Or at least for the next few days until his contract expires...

I also don't want to see the same exact Chris Jericho return. He is always re-inventing himself, and that's why he's so great. He stays ahead of the curve, and every time he does the heels in the WWE end up shaping around his character. Seriously...look at what he does, and then look at all the mid-card heels that push into the main event for the next 2-3 years after that... Chris Jericho is undoubtably the better of the two, but CM Punk has had far less time in the spotlight to contest that idea.

For me it's Punk, sure people will say he is the flavor of the month but I followed Punk day one. He made me watch WWECW for christ sake.

At that time his feud with Morrison was the best thing going in all WWE. In Montreal when they did the dumb Punk screwjob against Taker I was the only one in the building standing and clapping. I always found him amazing on the mic same for Jericho and in the ring as well.

Jericho has slowed down and I don't think he could reinvent himself again (but I am sure he could prove me wrong like always). Punk I did the guy and he's been my favorite for 5 years so I really wish he would stayed and we will see the return of the evil Mr. McMahon.

To me , Y2J is one of the greatest entertainers there has ever been in wrestling.

Whether he is a crybaby heel, a comedy face, a serious face or heel and even in his "best in the world at what I do" heel role, Jericho is a born entertainer. He has consistently put on great matches for many years and won literally everything there is to win in the wrestling business. Right now he is streets ahead of Punk.

However, Punk rivals Jericho on the mic, he is that damm good and has the potential go on and become an absolute legend in the business, just like Jericho. BUT, the quality of his in-ring work, while excellent is not up to the Y2J standard.

Punk is very good, but Jericho is better. The question is, whill Punk continue to improve and eclipse what Y2J has achieved? He has already won pretty much all the WWE has to offer, albeit not as many times as Jericho, so he definitely has a chance of going down as a legend

But if I had to pick one, I am going to pick the guy who entertains me more, and that is Chris Jericho

This is a tough one. A really tough one. They're really quite similar. They've followed a similar career path of going around the world to hone their craft. They've been on the US indy circuit, gone to Japan, Mexico and worked their way up to WWE. They're both all-rounders, being able to talk, wrestle and be charismatic consistently. They're also both capable of being a great face or heel, and they've also consistently changed their characters. And ultimately, they're both absolutely fantastic.

I'm inclined to say Jericho, purely because he's been around longer and has proved himself more. He's the one who has had the more classic matches. However, I am just more entertained by CM Punk. And this isn't just a reaction to "the promo". I've held Punk in high regard for quite a while before it. I guess the thing is, Punk's character appeals to me a bit more than Jericho's, and I can relate to him more. Jericho used to have his Y2J, party animal character and that was hugely entertaining. His most recent character was also very entertaining. But I can relate to Punk more. The way he carries himself (both in and out of character) is how I would want to carry myself if I was a wrestler.
